Post-Game 37 Thread: A Perfect Six-Game Roadtrip!

DODGERS 1, PADRES 0

Wade LeBlanc had the Dodgers no-hit through 5 1/3, partially because we fielded Reed Johnson second, Garret Anderson sixth, and Nick Green (in his first Dodger start) seventh (the trio is batting .224, .136, .000 respectively). The three of them combined to go 0-for-10, by the way. But all Chad Billingsley needed was a clutch RBI single from Russell Martin (who extended his hitting streak to 11 games), which scored Jamey Carroll (who had coaxed a walk from a 0-2 count, and then was sacrificed to second by a perfect bunt by Billingsley).

Billingsley's two perfect sacrifices today weren't the story, though: it was Chad's 7.1 IP of 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K performance that only took 95 pitches. Looks like a pretty damn efficient outing to me, Mr. Kurkjian. (Oh, and Bills hit MSB in the third, just for good measure. Which is not easy to do, I might add, given MSB's stature.) Complement Chad with two quick outs and a hold from Hong-Chih Kuo, and Jonathan Broxton's fourth-straight appearance (and fourth-straight save), and this game was done.

That's a pair of nice lookin' brooms you're looking at, as well as a perfect 6-0 roadtrip against division rivals, which brings the Dodgers to two games back of first place. Come on home, boys--you did real good.

UPDATE: By the way, for those of you tired of C-movie shark, octopus, and piranha clips: here's more quality entertainment from the Sons of Steve Garvey. (See what horror transpires when one googles "two brooms"?)

I am still laughing that Torre fielded a sorry-ass lineup that could only muster one run and two measley hits and we still take the game and the sweep.

HA HA!

The best six pack ever.

Guessing no Torre to the Mets/Cubs articles this week.

Paul: clearly, you haven't seen my abs.

Steve Sax said...

Matter of fact, neither have I lately.

Nice work Chad!

How you like us now, bitches? #suckitsimers

Like to send a shoutout to San Diego for its hospitality this weekend. So long and thanks for all the gin.

I'm extremely happy that we have a Monday game this week so I won't have to mope around the house pining for a game.

Any new word on Dre's pinkie/pinky?

Steve Sax said...

@DB: left you a MSG in the last GT:

when's the big 4-oh?

Steve Sax said...

I am really proud of Clayton and Chad recently, when all the yipping was loudest. Way to go guys!

@Sax

this coming Friday the 21st. If I have to turn 40, at least it's on ESB night!

Dusty

mine is the 27th. Still a bit shy of the 4-0.

what the hell is up with Jon Miller's shirt? it looks like he's wearing a giant dishwashing glove

Fred's Brim said...

and what a weekend. I wish I could have seen any of it! Except for Dre of course. I am really hoping all it will be is a couple of weeks off and some tape, not some nagging injury that he comes back from too soon. And I wonder if we will slump like we did when Manny went out

Kyle Baker said...

Well damn FB, aren't you just a ray of sunshine tonight?

Steve Sax said...

Somebody score us a picture of the dishwahing glove shirt, please

Fred's Brim said...

Sorry DB - that wasn't intended to sound negative. I am actually feeling pretty good about things. It was just some things I was thinking about as I was trying to catch up with this weekend's happenings

We win! 12-3 against the west! Take that, bitches!

FB

It is a good point the wrists and hands are very important to a hitter but I think the least important part off that whole area is a left handers right pinky and since Dre said he has hurt it before but didn't break it he is probably use to a little strain on it in his swinging motion. He just has to be careful not to injure something else because of the pinky boo boo.

Kyle Baker said...

I'm still a little uncomfortable spelling it "pinky" not "pinkie."

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Just for the record, have we officially climbed off the ledge that we were all hanging out on just a little bit ago?

Paul said...

Dusty

I just found out Pinkie is a famous Thomas Lawrence painting but the gal bears no resemblance to Andre. HOWEVER the painting is compared to another painting called The Blue Boy! hmmmm is that a Dodger Blue Boy???

Cue the X-File music, thanks wikipedia.

Paul said...

I like the view from the ledge.

Did someone say pinky?

ESPN has a great sense of humor.

Suns-Magic is exactly the kind of series the NBA needs right now.

@Paul

Blue Boy is housed at the Huntington mere blocks from my house. I seen it a buncha times.

Oh FUCK no:

There was a great disturbance in the amusement park force this weekend, as Disney revealed that the closing dates for its 20-year-old Star Tours ride would be July 27 (Disneyland) and September 8 (Walt Disney World).

But don't fret too much, young padawans, as the Star Tours rides are set to be replaced with a much grander, much more modern 3D pod racing version in May 2011.

It's a damn shame my boy is never going to get to ride the original.

Paul said...

Pod racing huh....me sah not so happy about dat.

MotoMikey said...

I cant believe they won that game. But I love a good pitching duel.

See everyone tomorrow at the ravine

Nostradamus said...

Yeah, let's begin wiping out references to that hopelessly outdated first trilogy. That's a great idea...

Weak sauce.

Cheska Sebulba!

At least the robotic performances will accurate

Greg said...

Star Tours replaced my all-time favorite ride--The JOURNEY THROUGH INNER SPACE. All rides that came after must bow down in supplication. They are not worthy.

Tomorrowland sucks now anyways. Part fo the problem is that no one agrees on what "tomorrow" is anymore.

Greg said...

...and oh yeah--great roadtrip!

Fred's Brim said...

Agreed, Greg! I had a conservative prediction/hope that we would go 4-2 on the trip, Saxy said 5-1. I am very happy we were both wrong!

Wesley Vento said...

Why did I waste my life watching that broom video? Star Tours, when I was 9 years old, was awesome. All of Tomorrow Land should be retired.

Steve Sax said...

Fred's Brim: I was looking for the posts with our predictions but I couldn't find them... any ideas?

The other Sons here in our office think my 5-1 prediction was bogus.

Kyle Baker said...

If we sweep again next, it will be a lot easier to find images of three broomsticks since it's the name of a pub in the Harry Potter world. Hell, Karina probably has a poster of this.

Fred's Brim said...

@Sax: The Clayton-over-Ubaldo PGT

I can screenshot it if you think another Son will sneak in and delete your post :)
