Post-Game 26 Thread: Like Throwing Punches Underwater

BREWERS 11, DODGERS 6

"A bitter night for young Clayton Kershaw, but it's all part of the growing process." --Vin Scully

Clayton Kershaw has a disastrous second inning, getting only one out while giving up seven runs across eight batters, upon which our remaining Ortiz (Ramon) promptly tacks two more runs to make it a 12-batter, nine-run frame. The Dodgers eke out a couple of meager runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, all off of sacrifices. And James Loney made it a little more interesting with a two-out, three-run homer in the eighth. But the fact remains, we are behind the eight-ball if we want to keep our streak of home-series wins alive.

But watching those first seven innings tonight, with the Dodgers going down with whimpers, it was almost like yesterday's off-day put the entire team to sleep. Especially Reed Johnson and his .271 average at leadoff doesn't exactly provide a spark (Johnson went 0-for-4; to be fair, Xavier Paul came in to PH and promptly struck out). Also sleeping in the two-hole is Russell Martin, who started the year quickly but hasn't had a multi-hit game in his last 10 outings (watching his average plummet from .333 to .244; now with five hits in his last 38 at-bats).

Watching the Dodgers play so lethargically tonight almost made it seem like watching an underwater fight scene...

Don't get me wrong, we're not at this point in the season yet, but if we are still in this shape at the end of the month, will we start really needing to think hard about DFA'ing some of these punks and just letting a couple of young fellers see what they can do? Cause it can't get worse than Johnson, Carroll, GA, etc.

SD beat COL 3-2.

Adam Morrison, the M.L. Carr of the 2010 Lakers

You guys are going to run out of Top Secret scenes.

six point game, 1.10 left

Agreed DB. I think you're on point with Anderson. Johnson and Carroll are not doing the job, but may be necessary for the next couple of months (Furcal and Manny being hurt but on the way back). Anderson needs to go now. I'd rather have Carroll than Green. Johnson maybe serviceable though, IMO.

Boozer's beard is fake, right?

I think I heard Vin say that Ramirez and Weaver played a minor league game today, but I might have been dreaming.

Josh S. said...

Anderson is such a sad sack at the plate. He makes 2008 Andruw Jones look motivated.

Josh S. said...

Dream? Weaver?

Kyle Baker said...

SSS- Yeah, Reed Johnson is the lesser of two weevils. But GA def has to go. The first pitch he took was about 35 MPH and right down the middle.

Lakers take it! Up 2-0.

Carroll's with us for next year too, so we're stuck with him. At least he can draw a walk though.

DFAing half the bench won't fix anything though. It's just a band-aid for much more pressing concerns, i.e. Manny, Weaver, the pitching, Furcal, etc.

Josh S. said...

Heh. I like how Weaver and pitching are two separate issues.

Steve Sax said...

Craig Sager's tie is almost as bad as Garret Anderson's play.

They both saw their heyday decades ago.

Manny went 1-3 w/ an RBI tonight in a rehab start. Weaver threw 3 innings. That was said on TBLA. Weaver back Friday, Manny on Saturday.

Steve Sax said...

josh s you are on fire right now

Is Weaver starting on Saturday? I think we currently have TBA scheduled. Monasterios pitched 2 innings tonight. It wont be him

I knew playing Randy Wolf's new team on May the 4th be with you was not a good idea.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Well, Weaver health-wise is independent from the whole crappy pitching situation.

Kyle Baker said...

@MLASF-

The whole context of what I was posing...I know we can't DFA half bench today. But later on in the season, IF we are still stinking, just think there's room in that scenario for bringing a person or two up for some experience. I'm not all that interested in getting, say, Nick Green any experience.

Josh S. said...

Doug Davis tomorrow. If Bills keeps to recent form, we should win 27-3.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Green likely won't be sticking around once Furcal returns, though that's not necessarily a guarantee.

Paul said...

Any starters out there for trade bait?

Not that we have anything to trade.

Small Sample Size said...

Green is gone, when Furcal gets back. Has to be.

@ Josh S I love where your head is at with the 27-3. If we don't kill them tomorrow, I will be less than happy.

(Drinks more whiskey)

Hey Weaver does have Glaucoma, his health concerns are real.

Josh S. said...

I like where my head is about to be: on a pillow. G'night!

Steve Sax said...

Gentlemen: I am heading out to the Stadium tomorrow to see us even the series.

Any of you guys want to meet up, holler.

Now, off to COD:MW2.

What else could explain his Sue Sylvester haircut besides bad eyesight?

Have a great evening, gentlemen.

Oops sorry Mr. C I needed to edit my typo.

I am not sure why that happened (the copy).

I told you weird shit happens after last call!

I think that game gave me salmonella.

I think I have a yeast infection.

It has been a whole two weeks without a road trip south.

Maybe a vacation...Maybe a trip to PETCO is needed. Chavez Ravine south is always nice this time of year.

Just got back from the game. Arrived at the top of the second, just in time to see Kershaw give up all those runs. That inning was the most hostile i've heard a crowd in a long time.

I would have to admit that I was surprised at how loudly we all cheered when we scored the two runs in the bottom of the fifth and the loney home run. if you just heard the crowd and didn't see the score, you would have thought we came from behind to win

On Dodger talk after the game, they said Weaver was coming back only as a reviever, so they don't know who is going to start this weekend.

NicJ said...

went to the game tonight. Sucks when the game is over before you even get in the gate. Got my BS "this is my town" blanket. For obvious reasons I didn't really feel like sporting it.

On the plus side, I didn't actually see Claytons meltdown, no errors again, and loneys HR was legit.

Biggest pop of the night was when they showed the lakers score every few innings. Also a big sarcastic cheer for the two sac runs was pretty funny.

I guess this officially ends the "if Fred's Brim doesn't watch the games, the Dodgers win" experiment. But I am glad I missed that shitshow. At the same time, it's not fair that you guys had to endure it while I went to bed early expecting a win. I think it's only right that I suffer with you
