DODGERS 9, PIRATES 3
- Hiroki Kuroda: 97 pitches (70 strikes), 8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3K
- Andre Ethier: 2 HR, 3-for-5, 4 RBIs
- Xavier Paul: 2-for-5, 2 R
- Matt Kemp: 2-for-4, 3 R
- James Loney: 3-for-4, 2 RBIs
- Blake DeWitt: 4-for-4, 3 RBIs
Not in the box score: great defensive plays by Matt Kemp and Ronnie Belliard.
Home sweet home? The Dodgers are riding a few streaks:
- they've won all three of their home series
- they've had five consecutive errorless games
- Ethier has homered in three straight games (with 4 HR total)
Today's lone speedbump was George Sherrill unable to close the game, even with an eight-run lead.
Off-day tomorrow (PCS alert!), with the Brewers coming into town starting Tuesday.

Hell yeah!
Now I gotta limber up my lobes for tomorrow morning
I think Andre Ethier is good. I actually believe he is in the lead or tied for the lead in all 3 Triple Crown categories.
Andre Ethier > Milton Bradley
@sss
I'm willing to wager that he can also beat Milton Bradley riding on Antonio Perez's shoulders in a chicken-fight.
For what can war,but endless war, still breed?
Thank You Milton for constantly being at war with yourself.
Paul is a cerebral assassin.
Ooh, don't want to get him in the circle.
Baseball Tonight sucks ass. Been watching for the Belli DP. Still no highlights. BTW, do we love Ryan Church, or what?
Man that sucks to be hit twice with a beanball. Re Tampa Bay game.
If anyone can find that Ryan Church head for cover shot of today's game I will be most grateful.
@ Mr Customer
That depends if it is a no-holds barred match. If it is, I like MB. He will surely have a beer bottle on him and he knows how to use it.
@SSS
Still take Dre. Milton will be on the DL with a bout of rickets just climbing up there.
I take Dre too. Milton will think the fight is over 2/3 of the way through and Dre will clock him.
Someone just called into Dodger Talk and said we needed to make a move for Ben Sheets.
Joe Morgan was talking about Ryan Howard's new contract, and all I heard was, "blah blah blah blah, I hate the Dodgers, blah blah blah."
This just in: Homeboykris just finished the Kentucky Derby. Congrats.
My challenge when listening to DT is to try and guess whether the Dodgers won or lost based on the attitude of the callers. It ain't easy.
Shaggy, Jr. had a tough day in Dee Troit today. Verlander looked OK.
The kittys really put the hurt on the Angels this weekend. I approve wholeheartedly.
Ah! Schadenfruede.
You never let me down.
Crap, now I have too few options for procrastinating. I guess I'll have to work.
John Kruk....fat guy in a little coat.
Dodgers: undefeated in May
Oh, shit, it just dawned on me why I am not overwhelmed with our win:
Tied for last place; 11-14 after three wins in a row.
Per TBLA:
"John Ely is starting Thursday for Dodgers"
Is Furcal going on the DL?
I'm already hating Joe Morgan and he hasn't even said anything.
It's taking everything I have not to go snag a coupla tortadas from Taco Smell.
I just crushed 2 chilli cheese burritos. Yummy.
The only thing that is good about working Sunday Nights is knowing that Joe Morgan broadcasts SNBB. He is....well....not good. I am listening to it though. Dave Campbell is okay.
The next Dodger game on a national platform is on May 22 against Detroit (a FOX game).
I always like Dave Campbell.
At least the Mets have been on SNBB 3 weeks in a row! Get em on tv while they're hot. This shit aint gonna last.
I'll be in the Yard that night (May 22).
Jamie Moyer lighting up the radar gun!!
Watching a show about the royals (British) on PBS, drinking Bud, and waiting for Mrs. rbn to get home with the hot dogs so I can make chili dogs.
I do love my Sunday afternoons.
Ah, the queen with me Gunners. From a few years back. Thierry Henry still with them.
KTBFFH!!!!!!!!
Moyer looks like he lept out of the 80s with those stirrups.
If this is Jamie Moyer now, who the hell would want him when he's fifty?
AARP
@RB
Watched that series a few years ago. Excellent insight into the Royals. Queen really showed an interesting side to her.
HR-fest in Phiwwy.
ESPN's new scoreboard graphic is a confusing mess.
@Josh
Glad you said that re the scoreboard graphic; I don't feel so stupid. I've seen easier to understand Ikea bookshelf directions.
Rbnlaw: I'm grilling salmon steaks and asparagus in the back right now. Beer in hand. Perfect weather. Two LA wins.
I'm a happy clam.
Josh andDB: could either of you pls shoot me a screenshot of the espn scoreboard graphic?
Dodgers: inching into fourth place!
@Sax
Yeah lemme see what I can do.
cc Josh
@Sax
Sent.
No screenshotting ability where I am at the moment.
I eat a Doubledown today and we win our third straight.
Coincidence?
I think so.
But my vow to stay away from them for the weekend seems to have paid dividends. So does that mean I should I keep away?
It's weird, FB. About 20 minutes ago I was puttering about the patio and thought, "Man, we didn't hear from FB all weekend." Then I recalled your vow to stay away, and reckoned that it paid off.
My mind may be feeble, but I don't forget GT shit.
I think it's my duty as a fan, friend and superstitious chump to stay away until we lose.
Raising a Sammy Summer Ale to a winning weekend.
FB
does this mean you "have showed up" if we lose on Tues we know luck is a lawyer.
Scary thought but that is how my Superstitions usually are resolved, on a technicality.
damn i hate the phillies
This Santana thing not working out so well.
Johan Santana is getting shellacked. GS to Victorino, 2-run HR to Utley. 8 runs with two outs. 10-5 Phillies
Johan has given up four homers, but has also walked Moyer with the bases loaded. I find the latter much more inexcusable.
Paul,
I have defined "staying away" as not watching or following the games. So no staying up until 1am to see them lose to chump teams, no getting tormented by terrible play, none of that stuff. But I will check the scores in the morning or way after the game has gone final
But yeah, if we lose on Tuesday, you can blame me.... or the AA pitcher we'll have pitching that day
Jayson Werth has cheek hair.
FB
I love superstitions as much as the next chap but I think I couldn't even blame that on you.
Now me going to my first spring training. Now that cursed the whole season.
Werth has cheek hair? Hmmmmm time to have him tested.
Or he is related to my great Aunt Isabella.
Dead animal on the grill and Corona in hand.
I felt left out. Weather a horrible 70.
Watching 60 Minutes, and I don't think I ever laughed that hard since Conan's last show.
Come to think of it, maybe there's a connection...
So let me get this straight.......
1. Dodgers finished in the top 4 the last two years.
2. They have a hall of fame hitter and a host of young superstars
3. They are in the second largest TV market.
4. The weather in Los Angeles at 5:00 p.m in spring is usually perfect.
And no sunday night baseball until July?!?! Kansas City Royals are on before the Dodgers. The Mets are on four times before the Dodgers.
Not to mention no Giants with their young star pitching (I hate them but their is some appeal)or the Rockies and their young crew.
Yet we get to see the Sox and Yanks twice before June.
If it is so segmented that West Coast watchers can watch a game at 5:00 cause it is too early then might as well make them localized time zone games and have one start at 7:00 over here. jeez.
ESPN and MLB must be trying to make everyone outside of New York not care about their sundaay night product.
That's such a good point, Paul. Just bifurcate the broadcast and start some Least Coat shit in their prime time and a more relevant broadcast (to us, at least) for the Best Coast in our prime time.

Dusty,
I just don't get whoever the big timers are at MLB and ESPN who become lazy with the easy money and have no foresight.
I didn't even mention all the new stadiums on this side of the country that look GREAT on HD (S.F. S.D, Seattle) and the classic that is our own home.
Pick the games with more insight on what is going on around all of the MLB.
Could you imagine the NFL having a Jets/Pats game in primetime twice in two months. Even if they were the best two teams in the NFL it would never happen.
Oh and speaking of east coast how about those Devil Rays...you might want to pimp that talent as well. I guess they will just wait till those players head up north.
Just give up, Paul. You can't fight it. West Coast baseball doesn't appeal to the East Coast markets networks and advertisers crave.
Yeah I know but it still pisses me off.
At least then keep it big and be honest and then have the big market teams dominate the schedule. LA vs NY. LA of A vs. NY. Boston vs Chicago. Chicago vs NY, SF vs NY. ect.
They can manipulate the off days to accomidate the night games.
If it makes you feel better, the nation's going to have us crammed down their throats during interleague. FOX and ESPN are just licking their chops at the series at Boston and against the Yankees.
And another thing, why is MLB putting us in last, even though we have the head-to-head against Arizona?
Yeah lol we will be superstars for two week run.
I only think the party sucks cause I am not invited. Once I get the invite the party is great!
I still can't figure out how some of these matchups are picked as ratings winners but I don't have the numbers and just left coaster hating the mets for no reason right now.
I guess Alphabet beats head to head. Just ask my man Ziggy Zziegen.
ESPN's power rankings also indicate the NYY/BOS bias. Rays are in first, but all they can quip is to disparage Carl Crawford and his three CS.
ESPN should read their own website every once in a while, especially the column on the right.
