Phillies Fan Gets a JOLT

And I ain't talking the awesomely caffeinated cola. In Philly's next line of defense against their battery-throwing, Santa-hating fans, the stadium's security guards have taken to using TAZERS.

A police officer used his stun gun Monday night on a teenager who jumped onto the field and ran around in circles in the outfield.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey examined video of the arrest and felt the officer acted within department guidelines, which allow officers to use Tasers to arrest fleeing suspects, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore. The department’s internal affairs unit is investigating, Vanore said.

Considering how many near misses I've had at Philly sporting events, I'd even push for the security guards to consider rubber bullets, fire hoses, or molten lead. My only concern: would they have used the tazer on this baseball field crasher...

Tommy Lasorda just called into the Brian Kenney show on ESPN radio. Had a bunch of nice things to say about Ernie Harwell. He is also pro taser!

It still wouldn't be enough energy to reanimate Jamie Moyer.

County police in Arlington, VA, where I live have tazed two people to death, most recently one who had a psychotic episode. FWIW, Arlington is geographically the smallest county in the US. This might be more effective, and Philadelphia fans are notoriously evil, but lethal force should be avoided if all the fan is doing is disrupting the game.

Now, if it's a player trying to kill the Queen of England, that's another story.
