Game 39 Thread: May 18 vs. Astros, 7p

Tonight is Andre Ethier Bobblehead Night at Dodger Stadium.

Hiroki Kuroda (4-1, 2.66) vs. Bud Norris (2-4, 6.03).

COMMENTS: Who else wants this month to never end? May has been as amazing as April was crappy for the Boys in Blue. No Ethier? DeWitt hits two triples. Opening Day starter on the DL? Ely could be the second coming of Greg Maddux in a Dodgers uniform.

So...nine straight! Why not? Last night's victory means the Dodgers have gone four straight series (Rockies, D'backs, Padres, Astros) without a series loss. Standing in the way of four straight series wins is second-year pitcher Norris, who apparently owns the Cardinals but has never started against the Dodgers.

Welcoming Norris to the Ravine is the rock-steady Kuroda, who is pitching like a guy who has never been hit on the head by a nasty comebacker. And Ethier may be headed to the DL (to be replaced by Xavier Paul), but guess who's back? You'll never guess (see bottom of post).

Remember Corey Wade? Me neither, any more.

Kyle Baker said...

I'm really close to giving work the big middle finger and shooting over to the yard so I can watch some BP and field prep.

MR.F said...

I miss Cory Wade, only because whenever Joe Torre called the bullpen, I could say to someone, "Joe's calling the Cory Hotline!"

And then nobody would get the Simpsons reference.

Josh S. said...

I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with the pinkies on my bobblehead. My Beimel has a jacked up neck, my Beard can barely hold his bat, and my Manny (curtain call) is holding David Eckstein's batting helmet for some reason.

Josh S. said...

@Mr. F:

"...Allegory."

Kyle Baker said...

Both my Beardmode bobbles' bats have the same affliction, Josh. I just krazy-glued the bat in finally. Means I can't re-pack the bobble, but hey, it's not like I was ever going to anyway.

Josh S. said...

Question for thems in the know:

Do they let the common folk loiter around the press box? I was planning on exploring the stadium tonight and I was hoping to just look around in that area.

Josh S. said...

Or can you not access it from the club level like I'm thinking you can?

Kyle Baker said...

You have to know the secret knock, Josh.

Josh S. said...

@Dusty: If Delino's knee explodes, then we'll know there's a Double Down connection.

Josh S. said...

I don't want to go IN the press box, I just want to walk casually by and see what I can see.

Kyle Baker said...

I sure want to go in the press box!

Josh S. said...

OK, I want to go in the press box, but I don't have any expectations that I would get to.

Kyle Baker said...

I think they ought to let Joshn and me call a game. Or they could let us comment freely in a GT and have a robotic voice automatically speak what we type. That would go over extremely well, I'm fairly certain.

Josh S. said...

Funny you should mention that, DB.

Kyle Baker said...

Whooooaaa, what a coincidence.

I'd love for us to type our commentary and then have that voice program read it out in Spanish for the Viva Azul angle indicated in the link.

MR.F said...

Thanks, Josh S.

Paul said...

All I am saying is we have to beat a pitcher named Bud. I don't care if he is Chuck Norris son.

Steve Sax said...

Well, I'm in the witching hour for stubhub but I haven't been able to find a ticket around my price range ($6). Looks like the Andre Bobblehead won't be mine after all...

rbnlaw said...

In.
Now out.

Kyle Baker said...

@Mr F, Josh

Also, "...Montessori" which is cloooooose to Monasterios.

Kyle Baker said...

Damn, Sax, shell a couple bucks out and come to the Yard. Leaving in 3.2.1.

Steve Sax said...

@DB, fair point. I'll go to $7.

Steve Sax said...

Sorry, but $35 is too much for a bobblehead and only one inning of the game (I have another appt tonight)...

Paul said...

You all make me jealous. My trips to the yard have to be planned weeks in advance and usually if I am not coked up a hotel stay. I guess i should be happy I am driving distance.

When I say coked up I mean the kind they sell at the stadium and what Nancy B uses for her hour long solo.

MR.F said...

I don't smoke, but I always bring a lighter to Dodger games just in case Nancy busts out "In The Garden of Eden" (by I. Ron Butterfly) between innings.

Steve Sax said...

ooh, they dropped to $24 at the low end...

Erin said...

To answer your question about the press box, you can get to it from the club level. But you won't be able to see much. All the seats and everything are to the right of the hallway you walk in, and security will stop you at the door before you can get far enough in to see them. I guess you never know who will be walking around there, though.

It's not exactly the same thing, but if you take a tour of the stadium they'll take you up into the press box.

Betsy said...

Hangin out @ union station, here's hoping I'm able to get on the first bus. It's windier than all heck!

Steve Sax said...

Betsy, weren't you there last night when it was wandy-er than all heck?

Betsy said...

@Sax, US wasn't as wandy as DS. I'll be @ DS all week, much to The Man's chagrin.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Wizards get the first pick. Dammit, I really wanted Devin Harris.

Betsy said...

Lines to get in r a little long, but we r moving briskly along.

Kyle Baker said...

My seats are further away from if I had just stood on my roof and watched w binoculars.

Not a god damned usher to be seen and I've been looking hard. If I wanted to smoke crack right here, I could.

But it turned out to be a nice nite w no rain, a little sun, and light wind.

Kyle Baker said...

Josh I think ur a million miles away from me. Don't sweat trying to drop by if it's trouble.

Paul said...

@Dusty

Nancy B can hook you up!

Kyle Baker said...

picture I took from my seats.

Kyle Baker said...

Cracking up picturing scoring an 8 ball or something off Nancy B.

Paul said...

Hey no one can crank those wicked beats out naturally.

Paul said...

Nice pic Dusty.

Very Lucas films like, I kind of expect an X-wing with a "we will never forget Porkins" bumper sticker to fly by. If so duck! You are pretty high up there.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Important, nay, incredibly vital information per Dylan Hernandez via twitter:

Finally got around to watching Avatar. Awful movie.

MR.F said...

True dat Dylan!

I wouldn't call it awful, but I didn't really like it.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

It was a terrible plot that was only salvaged by it's terrific special effects.

Josh S. said...

In my seat in the loge. Zero legroom for a 6'5" mofo like me. I'm not long for this spot.

Nice 123 by Hiro.

Paul said...

bad timing on my part

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Kuroda's got some trouble.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Ach. Kuroda's got nothing.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Astros have their own form of two-out madness.

Nostradamus said...

Crap!

It's way past time for me to be enjoying Dodger baseball.

Lucky to get out of that inning w/o more damage.

karina said...

Epale everyone!

injury delay?

Nostradamus said...

Epale, karina!

I just got in, so I didn't catch who was hurt.

Paul said...

I was hurt over cooked the pasta not al dente but I am feeling better now that I put a glass in the freezer for a frosty beverage in a few.

Paul said...

The power of the beard!!!

I also love watching Loney run "fast" he always looks like he is in such pain.

Paul said...

Dewiffffff

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Boy that was close

Nostradamus said...

Glad that wasn't a better throw to the plate.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'm thinking Monasterios pitches at least an inning tonight.

Paul said...

When was the last time Monster pitched?

Nostradamus said...

@Paul

I can see how you might need an injury delay to collect yourself after having flaccid fusilli

karina said...

Thanks Mr. C!

@Paul I'm jealous of you, you eat pasta at night! buen provecho :)

Paul said...

Wow that one almost hit Dusty.

Nostradamus said...

Thank the gods.

Paul said...

@Mr. C

yeah it was the damn multi tasking. I just had to check on the tomato plants.

@Karina

Gracias pero no bueno. You don't eat pasta at night?

@Martin

Kyle Baker said...

Kuroda gets in and out of jams like the second set at a Dead show. #drumsspace

Paul said...

I shouldn't have switch to the Boston game. Paplebon in trouble. He says it is Mannys fault.

Kyle Baker said...

I'm hoping for an Ely pinch hit grand slam.

Kyle Baker said...

Papelbon can blame Kemp.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

GAARP Attack

karina said...

@Paul very rarely, dinner with friends, celebrations at italian restaurants, you get the idea.

do you grow your own tomatoes for the sauce?

rbnlaw said...

Kuroda could've easily done better than Anderson in that at bat.

Paul said...

Dusty

Usher the pop singer that annoys me?

karina said...

Ely should have been the pinch hitter. Moehler would have given an IBB so he didn't have to face him.

karina said...

Oh, Winn in a crucial at-bat

rbnlaw said...

Kuroda was at 96 pitches and gets pulled. Joe Hook up to his old tricks.

Kyle Baker said...

Sometimes when I'm at the Yard I want to streak LF with a big flag that says "SoSG Up in Dis Bish!!!"

Any PR is good PR.

Nostradamus said...

GOLD GLOVE BABY

rbnlaw said...

Manny fucking Ramirez, lady and gentlemen.

rbnlaw said...

When was this GBA singer voted off of American Idol?

"Paries?"

Paul said...

@Karina

Tomato Sauce, Tomato and basil soup, tomatoes in salad...(in my best bubba gump voice) grape tomatoes, beef eater tomatoes early girl...you get it.

Homegrown tomatos are the best but it is has been so cold this spring they are struggling a bit to start growing.

Nice catch Manny!

rbnlaw said...

@DB
You pull off the streak and I'll meet you at the station to post your bail.

Plus I can always use the crim law work.

rbnlaw said...

8 out of 10 Red Sox fans wish they had traded Ortiz rather than Manny.

The other 2 can suck it.

Paul said...

Nancy B!!!! Now tell me would a sober person wear that sweater?

Maybe you guys can't see it, I am watching the Astros channel.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@Dusty - I think this is how that would turn out.

Without the Phillies shirt, of course.

rbnlaw said...

@Paul,
Maybe she make party already?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Whoops, link here: http://bit.ly/9DHJUg

Paul said...

Rbn,

I am one of those two Sox fans that say trade Manny but that is because I am Dodger fan first and foremost por vida.

The Boston thing is just sentimental from my days at Harvard.

Harvard is a dive bar down the street from my old law school.

Paul said...

@Rbn

When Nancy B is in the house the party is being made.

Steve Sax said...

Hey guys! Back in time for Hunchy!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I have to say, Reed Johnson has had stellar defense so far.

Steve Sax said...

Paul, I like the Crimson too

nice grab by reed Richards

Paul said...

Angling Johnson!

Steve Sax said...

Hunter Pence sounds like a pornstar name

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I think that's the first time I ever used "have/has/had" in one sentence.

Steve Sax said...

Paid attendance 55,662, good enough to be called a sellout

just like Kevin Garnett

K for Hunchy!

Nostradamus said...

HCK gettin' shit done!

Kyle Baker said...

No DSBG tonight.

Paul said...

Hunchichi Hunchichi pitches are so fast and deadly

karina said...

@Paul impressive, most impressive

by the way, are you talking about the Astros vintage sweaters, with the stars and the stripes, in earth colors?

MR.F said...

Reed Johnson doesn't sound like porn name?

Nostradamus said...

Quck poll:

Worse uni. 70's Astros or 70's Padres?

Paul said...

@Karina

No. Nancy B was wearing a pink and light blue sweater with furry things on the shoulders.

She is awesome.

Nice Vader reference.

Nostradamus said...

More beard, more home runs!

Kyle Baker said...

I just had an awful YouTube vision. Picture regular SoSG readers developing a choreographed video of DSB - interpretive dance kinda thing like DSBG does. Like those Filipino prisoners do Michael Jackson dances. ..

Growing back the beard worked!

karina said...

Beard Mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i was dying to say that)

Steve Sax said...

Okay, let me try this again:

BOOM!!!

It's the BEARD!!!

MR.F said...

Beard grows a beard, hits a HR. Coincidence? Nah.

Steve Sax said...

Paul said...

Life is very good right now. I shall enjoy it with a frosty beverage.

rbnlaw said...

rbnlaw said...

Paul said...

One more out and We Make Party!!!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Monasterios really couldn't have pitched in this situation?

Oh well, we still win!

Nostradamus said...

Nine, bitches!

rbnlaw said...

9 IN A ROW, BISHES!!!

Unknown said...

9 in a row!

rbnlaw said...

Party being made, as we speak.

Kyle Baker said...

rbnlaw said...

Neeebs,
