Clayton Kershaw (-, -.--) vs. Ross Ohlendorf (-, -.--).
COMMENTS: Nothing like an off-day to mull over a sucky start-o'-the-season battering and watch the Giants take first place in the division. Whatever reason Joe Torre had for booting up his iPadilla on Opening Day is moot, for Clayton Kershaw, who would look like a porcupine if we could see all the hopes pinned upon him, is taking the mound.
So enjoy today's g— what's this? Another note from Sax?

This would be a fine lineup, if Raffy could get on base.
How 'bout that vaunted Rox pitching?
How 'bout that vaunted Jints pitching?
today's the last day we'll be under .500
Sweet. Before the Dodgers have even played their second game, the Rox have lost twice as many.
WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW, SPORTS MEDIA?!
Giants are winning again!?!
This season already feels like it is a month old. No more off days after a loss.
Man United booted out of Champions League, too. Shaping up to be a good day!
2010 Giants = 2009 Padres.
The only solace I get from starting out behind the Giants is that it will make their inevitable collapse more delicious.
Quick poll as I listen to the Jints game to kill time:
Which is worse?
-Steiner and Monday's giggle fits
-Jon Miller's pronunciations of Latino names
Giants have 17 hits.
Clearly because Houston doesn't have Voldemortiz anymore.
Oh, Miller is by far the more annoying, considering it's the Giant's feed (or ESPN, for that matter). I may not be the most unbiased observer, though.
Giants ahead 10-4, but Mota is warming, so that lead isn't safe.
Jesus, the Astros suck.
John Miller, but only by a little bit. Oh how I dislike Charlie Steiner!
Per Dylan Hernandez:
"Manny will get a day off tomorrow. Torre also thinking of resting Casey Blake."
Those guys must be dead on their feet; after all, they've played in every game this season.
Plus all that toodling around Pittsburgh on the offday yesterday must have really taken it out of them.
Yeah, why does a guy in his late 60s keep thinking guys in their late 30s need rest?
Maybe he needs someone to watch NCIS with him.
At least there won't be a Barca/Inter final. Bundesliga für den Sieg.
I've always categorized Steiner as the funny uncle type. I find him entertaining for holidays and the occasional weekend. When he's been at my house for two weeks and has eaten all my triscuits, his ass is on the curb.
The only thing that helps me stomach Steiner is that his first game was with his dad at Ebbetts Field, and that since then he's been a Dodger man.
That counts for something. Of course, there are probably thousands of others like him, and they don't get to do commentary for the team.
Because I live in Arkansas and don't have satellite radio or the AtBat app, I am blissfully unaware of Steiner.
I'm probably in the minority, but I vastly prefer Steiner's apoplexy to Monday's smugness.
I like Steiner. I can listen to him talk. I can't say that about the vast majority of professional sports announcers.
Whoops. Inadvertently triggered a debate of Steiner's merits.
Miller gets points taken off for being a Giants announcer and his exaggerated (though correct) pronunciation of Latin players' names. If it weren't for those, I'd think him pretty good. But being a Giants announcer really kills his standing in my book.
Blissfully unaware of Steiner is no way to go through life, Steve.
Après Josh, le déluge.
No thread is ever entirely safe from spinning off on tangents.
@MR. F-
Also, Miller's hideous yellow outfits. That takes him deep into negative points territory.
Bring back Ross Porter. I need stats.
Wonder if Sherrill is going to pitch today....
Time to see how far behind the action At Bat audio is today.
The KABC intro played at 4:00 straight up, so I'm hoping for the best.
Nope. Three pitches in and Monday is still reading the lineup.
Gameday Audio is officially a full batter behind.
God dammit.
Josh we should hurt the techs who set the audio up...very frustrating
Something's gotta be done about Furcal.
I know Kemp and Ethier didn't do anything there either, but the 2 and 3 hitters keep having to come to bat with at least one out.
Triple play time.
perilous
Motherf-
One long season, coming up.
That's it. Seasons over.
UGH!
I guess we don't have to worry about the McCourts anymore now that Garrett Jones owns the Dodgers.
Remember when we were all so earger for this game? God, we were so innocent.
First K of the season to Kershaw.
Finally, goddamnit!
At least we can say that Vicente Padilla was a better choice than Clayton Kershaw. Only two runs in the first.
Why do I care so much about these jokers?
"Rudy Say-yan-yezzzz" - Jon Miller
And we don't even have Mark Loretta to pitch anymore.
I swear, if we get swept tomorrow, there's going to be hell to pay.
And with Ross Ohlendorf striking out Manny, the odds of us getting swept right now are pretty good.
I have to admit, though, Olhendorf is a pretty dang cool name.
Why the hell is the pitcher batting eighth?
Anyone else feeling a little queasy?
GODDAMMIT CHARLEY THE GAME WASN'T YESTERDAY!!!
*ahem*
Sorry, misplaced anger.
Until a run is scored, I have no hope of victory.
YOU JUST WALKED THE PITCHER, CLAYTON. FUCKING GROW A PAIR.
Hey, at least it isn't Andy LaRoche hitting all those home runs against us.
Kershaw walking the pitcher. Doesn't look like he has it tonight. He's all over the place.
The anger in this Game Thread is palpable!
...or Ohlendorf
Isn't Ohlendorf a piano manufacturer?
You guys need to relax a little.
Josh S, you shouldn't keep all that anger inside you. One day it could come out in unexpected ways.
ALRIGHT WHO THE @&$& ATE MY HARDBOILED EGGS!!
@Mr. F - The Dodgers are losing. To the Pirates. We have a right to swear and curse at Steiner.
Oh sorry, that's Bösendorfer.
No harm that inning, how about that!
Hey, tomorrow could be rained out. There's that.
(I realize I should be more positive, but sometimes negativity breeds creativity.)
KERSHAW DIDN'T GIVE UP A RUN THAT INNING! WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIM?!?!
Oh wait, that's a good thing.
Eric Collins record this season is on it's way to 0-2
DAMMIT I FORGOT TO RECORD THE GLEE CAST ON OPRAH!!!
I think they just replaying mondays game...
DeWitt, Martin and Kershaw due up. Butt whoopin time. (of the pirates, I hope)
Perfect game is gone! HAH!
DeWitt ends the perfecto!
I think all the anger is directly attributable to the high umlaut-to-comment ratio in here.
Note: Ross has been favoring the fastball here in the early onset. Something to look at.
So far, his only other pitch is a slider.
Is DeWitt in motion?
@Josh: Should be online somewhere, no?
Kemp time!
@Orel: Yeah, I just wanted to get angry about something else.
laroche i hate u
Blogger is not coöperating.
Matt should look for something high.
Gods Damnit!
So much for that rally...
No....stupid martin messed it all up..
dont think dewitt had a shot anyway
why not plant a fastball right under his chin here?
Here we go. Home run number four.
@Orel
DAMMIT, THAT'S NOT EVEN A REAL UMLAUT, IT'S JUST A STINKIN' DIAERESIS!
FIELDER'S CHOICE!!!!
Hey, they got Garrett Jones out.
oh manny
Can any of you tech savy guys explain to me why my gameday audio on Firefox is not working?
Relax, Mr. C. Go listen to some Mötley Crüe.
Dammit Kershaw, I thought we went over throwing fastballs right down the middle.
great pitching and solid fundamentals to start the year.
ERA of 9!!!
GT no longer stands for Game Thread. Now it means Group Therapy.
Can we fast forward through this season? and then start next season?
At least he's kept it under 70 pitches through 3.
Metal umlauts are ok, though. Especially when they're pronounced correctly so they make the band names sound much, much sillier.
C'mon, Ethier.
BB!
MANNY!
Manny's swing is look more balanced this year.
I, however, am looking more imbalanced.
OH COME ON
UGH. JAMES LONEY IS BATTING .000 AND IT'S THE SECOND GAME OF THE SEASON!!!! HE SHAMES ME!! I'M GOING TO GO COMMIT SEPPUKU.
FUCK
We're going to get swept.
When are the pirates going to trade away jones already. I'm tired of him already.
At least they've made 'Dorf work the last couple innings. Get to the bullpen!
SIGH. WE'RE GOING TO GO 0-162 THIS SEASON. WE SUCK.
HOW THE HELL DO YOU WALK THE PITCHER TWICE?
Again with the walking of the pitcher, Clay?
HE WALKED THE PITCHER AGAIN?!?!!!!? OH COME ON!!!!!!
MY CAPS LOCK IS BROKEN! I'M NOT REALLY THIS ANGRY!!!!!
Just use shift, Mr. F.
Can VPad throw at batters on short rest?
This thread is more entertaining than the game.
Don't fall behind, Kershaw. You had him 0-2.
Should I even bother turning on the TV?
Good news! I finally solved the puzzle. The last hint was great!
Thanks, EK.
Now back to this one.
Yo, strikezone's over here!
Forget it. Going to Super Mex while happy hour is still in effect.
Cheap beer, cheap appetizers, Dodgers on the TV.
2 out of 3 ain't bad. . .even for Meatloaf.
Hey you just click that little thingy and Charlie Steiner's voice appears. Imagine that.
SHIFT?! BUT THEN I WON'T FIT IN WITH YOU GUYS!!!!
GameDay could barely even map some of the balls Kershaw just threw.
Pinch hit for Kershaw here?
@Neeebs
Enough with your technical jargon. Can you just put that in lay terms?
Steiner couldn't find a fresh joke with a GPS.
Can we go back playing in Taiwan. We had a .500 record there at least.
@MR. F
Manic is so over. We're doing depressive now.
Martin with the power
HE HAS RETURNED!!!
Who had Martin in the "who will hit the Dodger's first HR of the season" competition.
Was that THE Russell Martin?
JMART GOES YARD
Russell hits the first Dodger homer of the season? Someone just made a LOT of money.
Hey! It's a Steve-Lyons-rally-killer!
Opposite field HR, at that.
HOOOMMMEE RUNNNN!!!!!
Hooray for Fat Martin!
Now we just need two more of those.
Even JMart's dad had Kemp in the first homer competition.
If having a neck like Wayne Rooney means more dingers for Russ, I'll take it!
The official Dodgers Twitter also called him JMart. LOL
Hey look the Dodgers version of Andy Laroche is back.
I knew we should have traded him.
Nice of Andy to throw us a bone, there.
Andy LaRoche is the only ex-Dodger I can think of that seems completely snake-bitten against them.
Hopefully he doesn't have Rooney's cruciate ligaments or fifth metatarsal.
Furcal steals a base. Martin hits a HR. What year is this again?
Holy shit furcal just went to second base on the pitch to the plate!!! Are you allowed to do that!??!?
Kemp dinger, Kemp dinger, Kemp dinger, Kemp dinger, Kemp dinger...
There's joy in Dodgerville again.
KEMP IN THE KLUTCH
@Dusty
Yes, hopefully physique does not equal physiology in this instance.
E time.
tie game
BISON MODE!!
WE'RE FUCKING TIED!
In play, run(s)!
Not trying to toot my own horn but we started playing better as soon as I arrived. *bumps fist with self*
And there was joy in GameThreadville.
Is this Manny's year?
This at bat may tell us.
Dusty, you'll go blind doing that.
@DB:
And all this time I thought the Dodgers turned it around when my GameDay audio kicked on.
Come on JLo...let's tack another one or two on. Remember that you're out of town, so it's ok to hit a HR.
Anyone know where Karina/Erin have been hiding?
Why is O-dorf so worried about holding Ethier?
Ross is really worried about Ethier.
*boos pickoff attempts*
Well, at least it's a new game.
I sent a Twitter DM to Karina but heard no reply.
I have to drive home now; is that going to mean we give up more runs until I can get home and sign on again?
Bah-Loney!!!
Oh, Raffy.
@Neeebs
I've seen Erin around here not to long ago, but she's heading across the pond in 3 days, so probably pretty busy.
What's Clayton doing? We finally get in this game, and he goes immediately trying to throw it away all over again. If our top two pitchers (allegedly; I'm guessing CBills will have something to say about this) can't handle the Pirates' lineup, it's gonna be a loooong season.
Ok, walking the pitcher is absolutely forbidden here.
Clayton's got nothing.
In comes Weaver to escape yet another bases loaded jam.
The pinch hitter is...DELWYN YOUNG?
DUM-DUM-DUUUUUUMMMM
Well that was fast.
6 walks in 4.2? A good start toward leading the league in BB again.
My man needs to throw a few more strikes next time, but I will gladly accept a tie game into the 6th
First pitch swinging? Must be the Dodger in Delwyn.
Kershaw will be fine. Getting through 4 2/3 innings with 3 ER given he was barely throwing 50% strikes is pretty good. He's not going to pitch that poorly very often.
I like DeWitt's patience so far (keep in mind I say this without having seen a single inning yet).
Well, at least no DP.
GA is now .500 as a Dodger.
NO! It's HIM!
RUSS ORTIZ
Nice DP!
solid play
200
DAM...mit?
does russ ortiz only have one pitch, or is he just trying to get everyone used to his 90 mph fastball?
How long will MLASF's 200 streak last?
