Game 18 Thread: April 25 @ Nats, 10:30a

Yesterday's Hero #1: Casey Blake (2 HR, 3 RBIs, several sharp defensive plays).

Yesterday's Hero #2: Carlos Monasterios (2.2 innings of scoreless relief).

Superloney!

Chad Billingsley (1-0, 7.07) vs. Scott Olsen (0-1, 11.74).

Gameday

COMMENTS: Casey Blake and Carlos Monasterios stepped up for the Dodgers yesterday. Who will step up today? I'll tell you who it won't be: Vicente Padilla, who was placed on the 15-day DL for sorearm foreness. Or forearm soreness. Whatever. Anyway, a win today would mean a series win against the Nationals, which would go a long way to making Dodger fans feel better about our next series against the equally mediocre Mets.

Ooooh...potential Ethier pinch-hitty goodness.

Steve Sax said...

Why is Ethier sitting? Is he too afraid of having his picture taken with Nats fans? Or is he dining through DC?

Greg Zakwin said...

Sax- Lefty for the Nats, just getting Dre a day off I guess. The ankle is probably still not 100%.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

It's quiet in here. Too quiet...

Fred's Brim said...

Rob Dibble, take a healthy bite of wiener sandwich

Greg Zakwin said...

AAAAHHHHHHHHH!

I don't know what we're yelling about!

Paul said...

Is the latest in the season the Nats have been at the .500 line?

Greg Zakwin said...

Paul- I seem to remember they were pretty good through the ALL-Star break the first season after they moved to D.C.

Fred's Brim said...

Russ gets us going!

karen said...

I read this AM that this is Vin's final season. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Fred's Brim said...

Matty keeps it going, 1st and 2nd, 1 out

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Bases juiced for Chinface. Let's hope he still has a homer left in the tank.

Fred's Brim said...

Casey with a terrible strikeout

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Now it's Belly 2's turn.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We suck.

Paul said...

I didn't hear anything or see anything about Vinny. But my news exposure had been limited this morning.

Fred's Brim said...

Belli2 can't come through - i hope this isnt a sign of things to come

Fred's Brim said...

Chad picks up where he left off in Cincinnati

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Great. Now we have to deal with Nyjer Morgan on base. Fantastic.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

This can't end well.

Steve Sax said...

Three hits, not a run?

Crap.

Fred's Brim said...

Chad gets an out by throwing a ball underhanded. He he been working with Rick Barry?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Steve Lyons is really combative today.

Greg Zakwin said...

Shut up Steve Lyons.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Nice play from Belly2.

Fred's Brim said...

great play from Belli2 to save a run
1 run in, 2 outs

Fred's Brim said...

Bills with a big (for him) fastball to get Willingham. I didnt think he could crank it up like that anymore

Fred's Brim said...

make him throw some extra pitches, Chadwick

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Chad's making him work.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

As opposed to the other way around.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'm surprised by how few pitches we made Olson throw in the first.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Chad looked great that inning.

karen said...

Good inning Bills

karen said...

Russ gets one!!!

Unknown said...

Anderson is this year's Mark Loretta.

Greg Zakwin said...

Belliard has built-in padding.

Fred's Brim said...

wow Chad dialed it up again!

Unknown said...

I'm just hoping he'll get through the 5th and 6th without a meltdown.

karen said...

Olsen sounds like a real gem

Betsy said...

@ Karen - i had the same thought!

Unknown said...

Billingsley produces better at-bats than Johnson.

Paul said...

Great pitching back on track, now time for the hitting to disappear into the night...or day.

Unknown said...

Not scoring in the first is gonna come back to bite the Dodgers in the butt.

karen said...

Seems like the Dodgers of old today

Unknown said...

dangit.

Unknown said...

next inning, the triple whammy of sucky batting due up. Great.

Unknown said...

26% on FanGraphs and we're only 1 run behind.

NicJ said...

Kemps really starting to piss me off with the glove.

Hopefully bills can get out of this jam.

Unknown said...

One strike away...

NicJ said...

Woo, good job bills.

Unknown said...

In a day of the improbable, the impossible has happened! Bills has made it through 6 innings without a meltdown!

karen said...

Bills pitching out of it nicely

Steve Sax said...

Come on boys, get Chad a win!

karen said...

Come on Dodgers, Bills needs to get this win

NicJ said...

BIlls out of the game already? Well I guess you wanna let him off on a high note.

karen said...

Come on Andre

NicJ said...

No win for bills. In line for the loss. Thanks offense.

karen said...

We're being dominated by an 8 year old

karen said...

Damn you Willingham

Paul said...

Come on Dodgers.

karen said...

This game has gone fast

Orel said...

Good morning! What time is today's game?

Orel said...

Ballsy catch by Maxwell.

Orel said...

It's down to GA.

Orel said...

First-pitch swinging. Game over.

Josh S. said...

Fuck.

That is all.

karen said...

@Josh S.

What you said

Fred's Brim said...

christonacracker
how are we losing series after series to these shitass teams? are we a shitass team too?

Steve Sax said...

We are legitimately an awful team.

Steve Sax said...

@FB: the funny thing is, I answered your question without having read your prior post.

We suck. I need a drink.

Fred's Brim said...

the weather for tomorrow in New York already looks bad. I think a rainout, especially if they can call the game early, could be a good thing for the boys

Jason said...

The bullpen could certainly use a rainout. Where's Crash Davis when you need him?

Fred's Brim said...

I am happy we are in the NL West though. Lots of Joe's Yankees teams got off to underwhelming starts, as did the Yanks and Phils last year (Yanks 9-8, Phils 8-8 on last April 25th)

I don't think we are as talented as either of those teams, but I think we are playing way below our potential. Joe's Yankees teams always seemed to eventually play to their potential. I think the Pads are playing way out of their gourds and the Snakes and VaGiants are playing how we expected. Colorado may turn things on at some point, but I think Jim Tracy won't let them do that

Kyle Baker said...

Fuck me In the armpit!

Small Sample Size said...

As appealing as that sounds, I'm gonna pass DB.

NicJ said...

Giants and Pads lose, yay. I guess....

rbnlaw said...

I just got back from the store. Was buying milk when I saw a picture of our offense on the back of the carton.

I called John Walsh to see if there were any sightings.

rbnlaw said...

@DB:
Did we ever get those buttons from Erin that said that?

Kyle Baker said...

Yeah, hey Erin- Can you take some time away from your cappucinos and your vino by the Rialto Bridge to make us some lewd buttons that go back to last season? ;-)
