Fetts to a T

"The Empire Strikes Back," the best Star Wars movie not named "Star Wars," was released on May 21, 1980. Exactly thirty years later, the Dodgers will commemorate this event by giving away Boba Fett-themed THIS IS MY TOWN T-shirts as part of their "Empire Strikes Back Night & Poster Giveaway" on May 21 (2010). Tickets cost $45 and can be purchased here.

Now we just need the billboard version.

(Thanks to Josh "No Disintegrations" S. for pointing this out.)

Not as cool as the Yoda version, but I still want one.

This shirt is indeed the goods.

I dont understand why the Dodgers don't sell additional themed This Is My Town shirts online or at the Stadium stores. I bet there's a lot of UCLA, USC, Taiwan, Korea, Star Wars, etc Dodger fans who can't make that particular game.

It is strange how, given how, um, business-driven the club has been lately (entertainment tie-ins with marketing, for instnace), their merchandising is still mediocre at best compared to other clubs around the league. I wanted a Blake t-shirt for two years and they just now got more than their previous annual allotment of two units.

To quote The Jerk, it's a profit thing...if they offer the goods that buyers are demanding, people will use the currency they earned by manufacturing goods/performing services to purchase said goods. If they can sell these goods for a price more than it took to get the product to shelf, the rest is what is considered profit, which Frank can then use to pay lawyers with.

Economics 101 class for Dodgers merchandising department is now dismissed.

I would be remiss if I did not point out that May 21, 1980, is the day I turned ten years old. I saw ESB on that day and it remains in the top 5 events of my lifetime, right up there with Mannyslam and the day I got mobile broadband.

@DB 7:58a: Don't get me started. Two more data points on how woeful the Dodgers' merchandise team is:

1) I can remember an Opening Day when the concession booths on the field-level concourse did not have ANY Opening Day shirts or baseballs in stock, for the first hour or so after the gates opened. (I mean, they only had six months to prepare for Opening Day, so I understand how this could have been missed.)

2) The Dodgers had their big merchandise sale in the tents this offseason, and there were piles and piles of clearance shirts from the 2006 and 2008 playoff runs. Which makes me think that whomever is doing the allocations is waaaaaay off. Again, if they'd been able to replace half of those shirts with some of the more popular "THIS IS MY TOWN" themed shirts, they probably could have made some more coin there.

That's cool, Anakin take these tie-ins . . . but they really do nothing for me.

I wanted an Ethier t-shirt (in white) for the longest time, and Champs never had them. So, I finally ponied up the 30 bucks for one at a game last year. It was a piece of crap. It simultaneously shrunk, faded, and overstretched the first time I washed it.

Also, I'm annoyed that the Dodgertown Philippines shirt is red, when blue is equally as prominent on the flag.

My favorite Dodgers merchandising moment is when I went to the Top of the Park Store back in the mid 90s. They had (and may still have) a bin of bats broken during BP or maybe even games. Most were just cracked at the handle so they seemed like real bats still.

There weren't any good bats in there (no Piazzas or Karoseses); the best they had were bats from stiffs like Wayne Kirby or Billy Ashley. But the awesomest bat in there was one from Jim Gott. And he hadn't even been on the team for a couple of years!

We couldn't figure out how he had broken a bat. Did he actually take BP? Did he get mad at blowing yet another lead and take out his anger with his bat? What if that was his only bat? If the bin is still at the store, I bet it's still in there

@FB, I know what you're talking about. My mom perused the same bin and I think she picked up an Angel Pena bat. I was always surprised Angel didn't eat the bat in the first place.

This bat discussion is NSFW; it's making me laugh too hard out loud and invoking stares from my secretary.

To Sax's point, has anyone seen Opening Day pins for sale yet? On OD, I saw none. The following Saturday I was there I saw none. They had hats, but no pins. Gee, it's not like there aren't tens of thousands of us who are willing to pay $8 for a tiny hunk of painted metal made by some poor 8-year-old Indonesian girl for .12 cents.

There was a better selection at Camelback than at Dodger Stadium this year.

The hat selection itself was limited and unimaginative.

No I don't want an LA cap in every freaking color!
