The Yankees have just wrested baseball's feel-good crown away from the Diamondbacks.
Earlier this year, we wrote about how the Diamondbacks were giving away season-ticket "scholarships" to in-need fans. Well, the Yankees have just concluded HOPE Week, five straight days dedicated to the recognition of deserving community members.
On that Thursday, for instance, the Yankees hosted individuals suffering from xeroderma pigmentosum, a rare genetic skin disease that basically makes them allergic to sunlight. Rick "Mr. Heartwarming" Reilly of ESPN.com chronicles how Yankees such as A.J. Burnett, Jorge Posada and even GM Brian Cashman stayed as late as 3 a.m. (this was after a rain-delayed game) to spend time with the group.
Only the truly naive wouldn't recognize the Yankees are getting a little something out of this as well: positive publicity, and maybe a little perspective for their players. But so what? That's what I call a win-win situation.
