Game 127 Thread: August 26 @ Rox, 5.30p

Randy Wolf (8-6, 3.34) vs. Josh Fogg (0-1, 2.25).

COMMENTS: Can you say "must-win"? Okay, it's not even September, but suffice it to say if the Dodgers don't win today's game, a great many Dodger fans (including some of our SoSG stalwarts) will be ready to write off our post-season chances. It's time for a statement game, and it's time to set us up for a chance to take this series. To that end, rotation mainstay Wolf puts his hot streak — arm and bat — on the line against reliever-turned-starter Fogg. The Dodgers dodge a bullet in missing the injured Aaron Cook, but it won't mean a thing if they can't knock Fogg around the world in eighty pitches. Let's leave Colorado with the Dodgers still in sole possession of first place!

I don't get the picture.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Sax: Do I really need to explain it?

You see, Wolf's a redhead. The wolf on the picture is a redhead. The wolf on the left is the collective SOSG community showing some love to Wolf.

You see the heart in the background? That too symbolizes love. What Orel is trying to say is for us to show some love for the Wolfman.

I do dream analysis too!

:-)

Alex Cora said...

I had to change the dodgers luck so I went out and bought the Majestic Dodger jacket at Dick's Sporting goods (the same one the players wear in the dugout). It is currently on sale for 100 bucks (originally 120) plus there is a coupon in the mail for 20 off 100. GO BLUE!!!!

Alex Cora said...

That wolf on the left seems like he is trying to eat the one on the right.

AC: Those are love bites.

Fred's Brim said...

i hope we work out some frustrations tonight. I am visualizing lots of drawn walks followed by gapped doubles, plus Randy pitching into the eighth, supported by solid fielding

Josh S. said...

We're going to be leaving about halfway through the game to go get this baby thing started, so wish us luck.

If I don't get a chance to further participate in the GT, let me say two things:

1. Go Blue!
2. If Wolf is yet again the only one to drive in runs, I hope it finally shames Raffy, James, Russ, and Manny into living up to their potential.

Nostradamus said...

How in the hell does Josh Fogg have an ERA of two and change pitching at Coors? I'll be lighting a candle at the altar of the patron saint of Regression Toward the Mean.

Alex Cora said...

Good Luck Josh S!!!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I need a win, or my fine china will be dust by night's end.

Nostradamus said...

@MLASF

Either that or let it be a blow-out early so I can get a really spectacular night of drinking in.

Steve Sax said...

Josh S, best of luck! I hope your boy is born on a WINNING day for the Dodgers.

That did not happen on my birthday, by the way. (Yet another clue to my secret identity!)

NicJ said...

Like I said before, we still have a pretty decent playoff lead. I'm not gonna freak out because we aren't winning the division. Things will be just fine. With that being said I would still like to see a win tonight.

Paul said...

I am planning to run a few miles while the first couple of innings are going on. Then I plan to come home, shower, and have a celebratory beer and whiskey as the Dodgers lead by 6 in the 6th inning and win by 8.

I planned my whole evening out around a Dodger win last Thursday so my lack of organizational skills may have been the reason for their demise.

Fred's Brim said...

good luck, Josh!

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Good luck Josh.

@Sax, So I take it you're not a Sagittarius then?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Good luck to you, Josh!

Nostradamus said...

Yeah, what they said...and to the missus, especially!

NicJ said...

they are talking about how our pitching is causing the dodgers to lose their giant lead in the standings right now.

DOES ANYBODY WATCH THE GAMES ANYMORE!?!?!?!

We are virtually tied with SF for the best ERA in baseball. How the hell is pitching the problem? Cant anyone just say our timely hitting sucks.

karina said...

Good luck to you and Mrs.Josh!

and many congratulations in advance!

May the Dodgers win, so you can tell your kid he was born on a day the Dodgers won an important game within a rough patch in a very wonderful season.

Fred's Brim said...

and we're underway!

make Fogg throw strikes with that sinker

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Andre the Giant

NicJ said...

YEAH BABY!!!

Fred's Brim said...

attaboy Dre! 2-0 good guys!

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Dodgers go up 2-0

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Sa-mack!

Neeebs (The Original) said...

I wish Vinny stops saying that the Dodgers should be "heavy favorites" tonight.

karina said...

Ethier 2 run Bomb! Go Blue!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Apodaca

Fred's Brim said...

keep taking those walks

NicJ said...

APODACA, already.

Josh S. said...

Apodaca already!

(Haven't left yet. Thanks for the wishes, everybody!)

NicJ said...

damn, lets not make that a habit.

Nostradamus said...

I credit Neeebs' Count Chocula avatar sugar rush with bringing in those early runs.

Fred's Brim said...

not a good steal ratio for the kid

Fred's Brim said...

you still gotta throw strikes, Randy

NicJ said...

come on wolf, we need you tonight.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Wolf is off.

Nostradamus said...

Strike zone is elusive tonight.

karina said...

It's the first inning and he tends to be shaky at the start. Let's trust him, gents.

Nostradamus said...

Karina,

You know me. For every silver lining, there's a cloud.

Fred's Brim said...

nice work, Randy

Neeebs (The Original) said...

I moved my Loney in between Capt. Kirk and Greedo.

The Count Chocula is in Loney's former place in the featured spot of the hall of bobble.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

And what would Henry VIII think about the Count Mr. Customer?

NicJ said...

that inning was way to easy.

Fred's Brim said...

James and Russ back to back? the best they can do would be just take pitches and hope for walks

rbnlaw said...

OK, I'm in for a while.
Josh, best of luck with the delivery, although you've already done the heavy lifting. Remember what I said about eating during the clean-up. Nurses love that.

Memo to Ned Colletti:
Don't dick around with Ethier in the off-season. Nothing like having a bona-fide star come through your organization, then making him all disgruntled because you low-ball his contract to avoid arbitration.

Now back to this one.

karina said...

From right now, until he gets back to normal, he's Loney or James Loney. No King James for him.

rbnlaw said...

Oh, and I'm just about done with Forkal as a lead-off. This game should be 3-0.

karina said...

@Mr Customer I get it, but the pessimism gets me more nervous and anxious.

Erin said...

I just arrived, and something Sax said made me do a little research. On the date of my birth, the Dodgers beat the Giants 3-0. Burt Hooton was the winning pitcher, and he threw a complete game.

NicJ said...

will the new shoes get our mojo going?

NicJ said...

are you kdding me randy?

Erin said...

I hate that Vin has to read these Nickeback promos.

Josh S. said...

Between the odds and the shoes, Vin is entertaining as hell tonight.

(Not that he isn't normally.)

Fred's Brim said...

jeez Randy, please no more stupid walks

Fred's Brim said...

and dont let them clear the pitcher

Fred's Brim said...

agreed, Erin - there's something not right about that

Nostradamus said...

@Karina

Say no more! say no more!

@Neeebs

Henry VIII is a chump. Francis I has promised me a baronetcy, so he's my guy.

Fred's Brim said...

nice Randy

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

KKK

NicJ said...

whew.

Josh S. said...

Rats. Dodgers were idle on my birthday. They lost to the Cubs the day before, 7-6, and beat the Pirates the following day, 5-0.

They were 12 games over .500 on my birthday, though.

Nostradamus said...

excellent.

karina said...

Erin, how did the Red Sox do in your date of birth?

Josh S. said...

Mrs. S was born in the off-season.

karina said...

@Mr Customer Thank you.

I love how you are a history geek.

Fred's Brim said...

Raffy needs glasses

Erin said...

Good question, Karina. Apparently I was born on a Sunday (I had forgotten), and for some reason the Sox didn't play. I haven't found any reason for it, but it must have been a rainout, because otherwise it would have been the third game of a series with Baltimore.

rbnlaw said...

Forkal does it again!
Swings at obvious ball 4's and watches pitches he should swing at to protect.

NicJ said...

does this strike zone go out to the end of the opposite batters box?!?

another horrible inning. im sensing a season high in innings pitched for fogg tonight.

Nostradamus said...

No baseball related activity of significance on my bday.

rbnlaw said...

@Josh S.
Nice gear for the little Dodger.

NicJ said...

our innings have to last a little longer than ten pitches.

Fred's Brim said...

offseason birthday for me, but I share a birthday with Branch Rickey and Fred Merkle of Boner fame

Fred's Brim said...

wow that was close

Fred's Brim said...

damn spilly

NicJ said...

fuck, come on guys get your shit together.

EYx2's at bat was almost as long as our last inning.

NicJ said...

alright, we got through that. Now lets score some runs.

karina said...

I was born on the offseason, maybe Aguilas could have played that day but at the time, they played 3 o 4 games a week, so maybe i was born on a day of nn-baseball activity.

rbnlaw said...

On May 8, 1962 the Dodgers were victorious at Houston, beating the Colt 45's 9-6. The improved their record to 16-11. By the way, 1962 was the inaugural season for Dodger Stadium.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

ANDRE THE GIANT PART II

Fred's Brim said...

woop!

NicJ said...

Andre the Giant has a Posse, of homeruns.

koufax said...

we are no longer the dodgers, we are the ethiers

karina said...

Ethier!!!!!!!

NicJ said...

whew, looked like it just grazed him.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

It's a one-man band.

Alex Cora said...

Dude that lady behind Blake in the white shirt with brown hair has some FUNKY haircut.

Steve Sax said...

Andre is playing so above it all, he's in the ethier

I may have to use that for the PGT

Alex Cora said...

When the show a right hander batting - above the dugout. FUGLY

NicJ said...

fogg is nearing his season pith high.

NicJ said...

pitch

Steve Sax said...

Based on who is showing up tonight, our lineup looks like this so far (pending Casey Blake's at bat here in the fourth):

1
2 Kemp CF
3 ETHIER RF
4 Ramirez LF
5
6
7
8
9

NicJ said...

alright loney, please do something.

Steve Sax said...

AC, how's your stomach lining?

Alex Cora said...

APODACA!!!!!

Steve Sax said...

APODACA
APODACA
APODACA

koufax said...

can loney get the ball out of the infield here? i think so.

Alex Cora said...

AP-O-DA-CA (clap clap clapclapclap)

NicJ said...

that was a excellent at bat for casey, an 8 pitch walk. we need some more of those.

karina said...

"Gameday is currently unavailable for this game. Please try again later""

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

LONEY SAYS FUCK US ALL

Neeebs (The Original) said...

@Mr C.

I betcha you don't think Charles V was such a chump, eh?

NicJ said...

YESYESYEYSYESYYEYESYEYSYEYSYEYSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Lonnnnnnnnneyyyyyyyyy

Alex Cora said...

YEAH!!! Welcome to the big leagues James!!!

Steve Sax said...

FREE

JAMES

LONEY!!!

koufax said...

thank you, thank you, i will be here all night, remember to tip your SoSG Bar waitress

NicJ said...

Loneyrado!!

Steve Sax said...

Charley Steiner again got a home run call right. If that had gone foul, I would have beat my transistor radio to death.

I Alivandi said...

Where's Dusto?

Fred's Brim said...

woop x 3!

that was better than a walk. take note, Russ

Loney Fan said...

That's it! Loney is officially out of his slump. I won't hear any arguments to the contrary.

NicJ said...

and martin gets a hit!!

I Alivandi said...

Now that was a beautiful sign from Russ.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Maybe Bobble Loney likes his new digs.

NicJ said...

haha loneyfan comes out of hiding.

karina said...

Oh my sweet Lord! Loney 3 RBI HR!

Should i give him his royal title again?

No wonder my GameDay froze :)

Neeebs (The Original) said...

LF makes an impromptu appearance

Alex Cora said...

@Sax: Stomach lining is fine...Now...

I Alivandi said...

King James going Earl Weaver and Russ going the other way. Two great signs.

Steve Sax said...

koufax, you are clairvoyant

I Alivandi said...

Hanging by a thread and the thread has just broken. I love it Vinny.

Steve Sax said...

"The Fogg is being lifted." --Charley Steiner

Cue the Tapatio commercial!

Paul said...

I almost fell off the treadmill! Atta boy Loney!!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

The Fogg has been lifted.

Because nobody has heard that line before.

karina said...

Merciless attack against the Maracaibo-born pitcher! Go Blue!

Steve Sax said...

LoneyFan, where have you been? Hiding out with Loney's power swing?

6-1 Dodgers, top 4 no outs two on

Steve Sax said...

@ Mr LA SF, it's Charley Steiner. It's all relative.

I Alivandi said...

Sax - Updated list

1.
2. Kemp
3. Ethier
4. Ramirez
5. Blake (great walk)
6. Loney
7. Martin
8.
9. Wolf (on the mound anyway)

I Alivandi said...

Wolf just looked so pissed at the sign Bowa sent him.

I Alivandi said...

Seriously, you are leading 6-1. Let Randy corn hole one of Rincon's pitches.

Steve Sax said...

Raffy, knock Martin in if not Hudson too

NicJ said...

what the hell furcal.

Steve Sax said...

@I Alivandi, nice. Hudson gets credit for the walk, so now we only have a gaping hole in the leadoff slot.

One that just hit into an inning-ending double play to strand two. Yay, Rafael!

Fred's Brim said...

that wasnt very good, Raffy

it's only the fourth, stay sharp, Randy

NicJ said...

did anyone see that Breezy needed an MRI for a pain in his oblique yesterday?

NicJ said...

wolf with a lead puts on the cruise control.

Fred's Brim said...

i love that, to follow a scoring inning with some shutdown pitching

Fred's Brim said...

i missed that about Breezy

(what's an oblique?)

karina said...

Ok Dodgers, let's make a deal: the Rockies can't go into the post-season because Aguilas need Carlos Gonzalez. It's crucial they get into the post-season because my brother is coming back home the very same day that the regular season ends, which means these siblings will only be able to attend post-season games, because we don't know when we'll be together again for a baseball game at the Luis Aparicio.

We have little chance without him in the lineup and the MLB regular season is just 4 or 5 days away from the venezuelan winter baseball opening day.

NicJ said...

any of several oblique muscles; especially : any of the thin flat muscles forming the middle and outer layers of the lateral walls of the abdomen

NicJ said...

kemp wanted that one.

Steve Sax said...

Kemp barely gets thrown out.

NicJ said...

what no more homeruns? your slipping ethier.

Fred's Brim said...

boooo Andre!! you need to hit homeruns every at bat!

karina said...

How sweet would be a Manny's HR in this game?

Steve Sax said...

NicJ, that definition is a little indirect. Some might say, underhand or perverse.

Fred's Brim said...

Breezy's been doing too many side bends and situps!

Steve Sax said...

6-1 Dodgers, mid 5

NicJ said...

sorry, its your side FB.

NicJ said...

Saxtionary.

Fred's Brim said...

that's where the sidebends come in!

I Alivandi said...

Fred's Brim - Muscles on the lower side. Sounds precautionary. He is available today.

BTW, that curve was downright voluptuous

Steve Sax said...

Ianetta nets a leadoff double in the fifth

I Alivandi said...

Wow. As good as that first curve was, the one Ianetta hit was terrible.

I Alivandi said...

Sax - There is one out.

NicJ said...

we have to keep them at more than a grand slams distance to be safe tonight.

NicJ said...

for a minute there i thought vin was losing it.

I Alivandi said...

Oh goodness. I am tearing up thinking how much we will lose when Vinny hangs it up.

I Alivandi said...

Rincon got nasty there.

Steve Sax said...

Old Loney and Old Martin return!

karina said...

@Sax i like to think they had a relapse.

Fred's Brim said...

gotta stay after them at the plate, can't get comfortable

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Furcal=Fail

Fred's Brim said...

damn - so close!

finish this off Randy

NicJ said...

that was an out yesterday.

I Alivandi said...

Shitty umpiring in this series so far.

NicJ said...

dont let hawpe burn us again.

Steve Sax said...

Come on Wolf, sock Hawpe

I Alivandi said...

Nothing but junk baby.

LLCoolL said...

Is it too early to nominate Randy Wolf as our 2nd-half MVP?

NicJ said...

i hate when we let up on the offense when we get a decent lead.

I Alivandi said...

LL - He is close with Kershaw for pitching MVP. I think Ethier is the MVP for the year though.

I Alivandi said...

So close. It was foul, but Randy put a pretty swing on it.

NicJ said...

hopefully we can get a little two out rally going to give wolf a little breather. or at least a long at bat.

LLCoolL said...

Yeah, but Kershaw doesn't bring the lumber. Chicks dig the long ball.

Nostradamus said...

...And I'm back! I see things have been going well enough without me.

Who re-animated Loney?

I Alivandi said...

LL - Kershaw did hit a homer in ST.

Steve Sax said...

Furcal needs to sit

NicJ said...

The Bad: Rincon has shut us down.
The Good: He probably cant pitch tomorrow.

Paul said...

Yes we have our leadoff hitter up next inning

Steve Sax said...

What is up with Raffy?

Not his average.

Fred's Brim said...

Raffy, please cut down your swing, kthxbai

Nostradamus said...

@Neeebs,

Carlos V was nobody's chump.

LLCoolL said...

Nice game Furky. A HIDP and a Silver Sombrero. Think Torre will take a hint?

I Alivandi said...

Randy says "WHEW"

Fred's Brim said...

Manny, punch Dingus while you are there!

NicJ said...

that almost hit dinger

Kyle Baker said...

Josh, if the Loney HR doesn't cause Mrs. Josh S.' water to break, nothing will.

These early games (LA time) are killing me having to get home late and catch up on Tivo.

Steve Sax said...

Great seven strong from Wolf!

Fred's Brim said...

Yes Randy!

his pitches are at 99 or 99 + that last inning, so that was prolly his last

NicJ said...

wolf says he is going back out there.

Fred's Brim said...

lets get some hits - we only have 4!

I Alivandi said...

FB - He is at 99 total. Given that he was wrapping again, he may well get another inning on a batter-by-batter basis.

I Alivandi said...

200

LLCoolL said...

Herges owns us.

NicJ said...

haha, beat the shift.
