Clayton Kershaw (8-7, 2.96) vs. Jason Hammel (8-7, 4.54).
COMMENTS: 48 hours of hemming and hawing about this game comes to a merciful end today with our Minotaur on the mound. Despite the Dodgers' 10-2 record against the Rockies this year, including a sweep at Coors Field in May, everyone is forecasting the imminent downfall of the Dodgers. Accuscore gives the Rockies a 54% chance of winning (58% as of WSJ's press run last night, so at least our trajectory is improving), the LATimes' Helene Elliott takes a break from following the Kings and Galaxy to slash the tires of the Dodgers' bandwagon, and the only guy we seem to have on our side is Steve Phillips, an omen which portends doom like a circling vulture.
Tonight, we put this yippin' and yappin' to rest. Kershaw hasn't had a win since July 18 but is 1-1 with 1 ND against Colorado this year. Hammel is 0-1 against the Dodgers with 1 ND, and has gotten three wins in his last four starts (reflecting the Rockies' recent streak). Assuming Clayton can come out strong and our rested bullpen can hold up, what I'm really hoping to see tonight is a breakout performance by James Loney (he is 2-for-5 lifetime against Hammel with a 1.600 OPS, and his OPS+ of 143 against the Rockies is the highest among all NL West opponents), assuming Loney has recovered from the flu. It would also be nice to see Manny Ramirez get his OPS back up over 1.000 (Ramirez is 0-for-5 lifetime against Hammel). Heck, Coors Field is the place for all of the Dodgers to get out of their offensive funk.
And we need to play a full nine, or even 14, innings here guys. It is Coors Field, after all. Let's not pull a Merkin. {In the meantime, we're going back to two GT superstitions, rather than the overloaded three that didn't seem to work out so well on Sunday.)

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 461 of 461Not exactly the heart of our order here. Let's get on base, Furcal. Then whoever comes up (Loretta?) needs to bunt. Especially if it's Loretta.
come on lets attack the guy they refused to use last night.
Sorry, I mean Hudson.
Jesus.
what the fuck was that?
Great thinking, Orlando, trying to leadoff with a bunt!
You're now 1-for-5.
Effing Herges.
we gotta be able to hit this bum
Can't expect much here. Sure hope we can hold them in the bottom of the inning.
Hudson, Loretta can't bunt you over if you CAN'T GET ON BASE
And, for the record, I HATE this ump.
We usually beat the tar out of Herges.
Vin hasn't yet mentioned Herges' wife's sister's marriage to another MLB player. Or maybe I've got that story mixed up.
im with u erin, i almost threw the remote at the tv earlier because of him
Loretta, that swing was so not even close, I'm not sure what game you're watching
waiting till the 11th i guess.
Furcal do NOT even think about another one of those crap ass bunts. Didn't you see what happened to Orlando?
Oh, good idea, Furcal. A bunt always works nicely to get a player on base.
If we can make it to the 11th, we might have a shot.
Can we go down any more quietly than that? I think not. Am I going crazy? I think so.
that was freaking pathetic.
still must be trying to tax the bullpen i guess
Another former Dodger comes back to haunt us.
Jmac?!? not in colorado.
While taxing their bullpen we're not exactly doing ours any favors.
God does anyone hear that annoying yelling lady or am I going crazy? Maybe I am.
torre saving the brim reaper and big john for some reason
and walking the leadoff hitter loses u games
@koufax: Not with a 7-pitch inning
Oh, good. A leadoff walk. On a pitch that has been called a strike 90% of the time tonight.
oh my god
Fuck
I guess that's it then. What an embarrassing loss.
now thats what you call giving a game away.
im not even gonna watch the rest of this crap.
loney is without a doubt the least valuable player of this game
that wasnt very good
Pitching macdonald. Did we give up?
That runner being at second sort of matters to us, doesn't it? I know we have to concentrate on the guy at the plate, but if we get him, then a double play ends it.
God damn you, ump. Try a little consistency!
great time to squeeze him, ump
WALK HELTON
walk Helton, then pray for the DP
Koufax, I was about to write the same thing in exactly the same way. Ha.
is there a chance we can get out of this?
Is Torre making a move now?
DO NOT tease me with thoughts of escape!
Okay double play time.
really let that one go
Oh, man. This is definitely the angriest I have been all damn season. I can't believe this shit.
I hate this Shit
rats
Jimmy Mac, remember that leadoff walk for next time, OK?
The Rox are gonna run out of that magic at some point, just like we did. I hope it's sooner rather than later
I guess that's why McDonald is still not starting. Hopefully Colorado will tire themselves out from celebrating walk-offs every night.
Really, I blame Steve Phillips for that fiasco. Asshole!
WHA HOPPEN???
Josh, you better be a dad by now. We need some cheering up
Not yet, but according to the doctor's timetable, he may be born sometime during Thursday's game. Maybe he can help hold off the Rox.
@FB:
Remember, they ran out of magic vs. the Red Sox two years ago.
I, for one, cannot wait.
Brethren and sisteren, it is now time to panic. Me, I'm having another non-Coors beer.
We're screwed.
we arent screwed. there are miles and miles of rope left on this baseball spool. the rope is tight right now and we need to figure out how to play like that. I hope we can figure it out soon
I'm with rbnlaw. We're screwed. I have a long rant for this game, but I'm saving it for the MFPGT.
I almost think they should become the hunters again instead of the hunted. Play with some fire in their bellies instead of like a complacent team that's been in first for most of the season.
I eagerly await MLASF's rant in the MFPGT.
I'd like a HFYPGT tomorrow.
Post-Game Thread is up.
I'm going to throw up now.
