DODGERS' RECORD WITHOUT MANNY: 26-16
Randy Wolf (3-2, 3.29) vs. Gavin Floyd (4-5, 4.65).
COMMENTS: Let's take a gander at the Dodgers' past five starts:
date | starter | opponent | IP | # of pitches | result |
6/23 | Kuroda | CHW | 8 2/3 | 103 | W |
6/21 | Kershaw | LAA | 7 | 107 | W |
6/20 | Weaver | LAA | 5 | 66 | W |
6/19 | Billingsley | LAA | 6 | 112 | L |
6/18 | Wolf | OAK | 6 | 87 | W |
It's a small window shown here, but the trend of Dodger starters going deeper into games is encouraging. Hopefully Wolf can build on the improvement shown by Kershaw and Kuroda, and actually get a win this time as well. Another positive sign: The Dodgers have won seven of Wolf's past eight starts.
As with yesterday's White Sox starter John Danks, Floyd's numbers belie his strong pitching in recent outings. The Dodgers benefited from getting to Danks early, as he eventually recovered and shut them down for five innings. A similar hot start today would certainly behoove Wolf. (Of course it would. I just wanted to use the word "behoove.")
And don't forget Albuquerque. Manny Ramirez is scheduled to play five innings (a whopping 25 percent increase!) with the Isotopes tonight, starting at 6 p.m. The 'Topes set a attendance record last night, with 15,321 fans present. Just call it the Manny Effect.

Nic - Well, if Joe keeps using Tron and Belly this way we do.
Raffy would rather have our comeback come in the ninth. Okay.
The GameDay Chicago White Sox logo, located in the upper right of the window, looks just like stark block lettering. Yawn.
I bet Joe feels stupid for the Castro move now.
"Well, if Joe keeps using Tron and Belly this way we do."
after today can you really blame him for only using three guys? Joe does wear out relief pitchers but he doesnt have many reliable arms to work with this year.
I'm just realizing now that the 'Topes mascot is named Orbit.
There have got to be some sweet chewing gum promotions out of that.
Or maybe a free Saturn night?
Or Disneyland's Pluto could have been a better mascot?
Or Jamie McCourt's Venus Razor giveaway night?
Maybe they give away discounted plane tickets.
Jmac did really well considering how he was earlier this year, so thats promising.
Dudes, who is up for watching the early game tomorrow?
Castro just made Ali feel stupid.
I keed, I keed. You really are a nice person...for me to poop on!
Nic - I disagree on both accounts. Torre had a 13 man staff for a while and could have spread the wealth. Also, Wade has been much better than his ERA if you look at his FIP (which I am sure Torre doesn't) and Mota has been better of late (I shudder). Why ruin guys?
Ateve, watching on TV or Gameday?
MLSF - Beard makes that play these days. He seems to have really worked on his D.
Mota toasts Scotty P. Saunders cruising.
BTW, anyone else think the A's traded for the wrong Rocky? Hawpe is better than Holliday.
Mota's not THE MAN or anything, but he definitely doesn't make me groan when he comes in anymore.
(Juan Rivera HR aside, that is.)
Well O-Dog wasted no time there.
O-Dog. That was a bad pitch to swing at.
Does Castro have the bat speed to deal with Jenks?
Down goes Castro, down goes Castro.
Here comes the two out rally.
And that is why you don't bring in Juan Castro for Casey Blake.
Man, Jenks seems to have rediscovered his fastball.
I really hope that if Dre gets on Torre pinch hits Jones for Loretta.
Moot now.
So, is this now a full on Angel thread?
Karina, only Gameday where I am...
Knock yourselves out! PGT is up.
Well, at least we keep our run differential stratospheric.
Nic - Please don't insult Ichiro.
I actually think Pierre would make some sense given the way they have built that team and the field they play in.
BTW, the Angels just chased Marquis and Fogg is in to face Vladdy.
Steve, i'll make my best to watch the game tomorrow.
