DODGERS' RECORD WITHOUT MR. RAMIREZ: 25-16
Hiroki Kuroda (1-3, 3.86) vs. John Danks (5-5, 4.48).
COMMENTS: The Dodgers may be in Chicago, but tonight all eyes will be on Albuquerque as Manny Ramirez begins his rehab assignment with the triple-A Isotopes. Do you think the 'Topes will welcome Mr. Ramirez? From the Wall Street Journal:
The team averages about 7,000 fans per game who pay on average $11 for a ticket. After news of Mr. Ramirez's arrival broke Thursday night, an Isotope official said the team sold nearly 11,000 extra tickets in two days. Mr. Ramirez has 533 Major League home runs and 1,745 RBI. The 13 hitters on the Isotopes have a combined 67 big-league homers and 377 RBI.
Free audio of the game, which starts at 6 p.m., will be available at the team's official website. The boys at True Blue LA indicate that ESPN will be showing all of Mr. Ramirez's plate appearances live as well (probably because he used to be on the Red Sox).
The official start time of the Dodgers-White Sox undercard is actually 5:11 p.m. (7:11 CT), thanks to a 2006 sponsorship deal the White Sox signed with 7-Eleven. Doesn't do us much good in the PDT — 5:11 doesn't quite have that pizazz.
Mr. Kuroda is still searching for that elusive second win after getting bit by the home run bug in his last start, against the A's. The good news is that he didn't walk any batters over six innings, and his fastball reached 95 mph. It's kind of like he's still in spring training.
Don't let Mr. Danks' numbers fool you; in his last start, against the Cubs, he threw 71 of his 99 pitches for strikes. If that isn't some kind of record, it should be. Dayum.
(Thanks to SoSG Sax for the WSJ tip!)

July 3rd is just around the corner.
karina, it was a chopper to a drawn-in infield. if they were playing back, Loney may have had a chance to score, but probably not :)
Hi everybody.
I was at the game where Kuroda almost threw a perfect game last year. This is almost as good.
One run and one hit short of that memorable night.
So, the blame should be shared by Bowa and King James?
Hiroki is a damn monster when he is on. He is like Greg Maddux in his hey day, only with more velocity.
Podsednik was trying to get Furcal to move up the middle :)
i guess my buying his jersey shirt jinx wore off.
yay!
Thanks for the description, Fred's Brim.
And Hiro is still throwing 94.
karina, yeah kind. they had Loney going on contact. you could hear Bowa yell "go!"
damn.
Giants 3-A's 0, top of the 2nd.
Come on Hiro. FINISH HIM!
Damn Alexei Ramirez.
The guys in the stands are not happy with the ump.
that dude is skiiii-iiinny!
Ha. That second pitch was more in the zone than the first.
Damn.
Damn it
Torre's got the hook. Broxton is coming in.
no CG
Do you think Torre brings in Broxton for 1 out?
It's technically a save situation since the tying run is on deck.
im hoping there is not more to Broxtons toe situation.
Let him to finish this.
What a waste.
Oh well, hopefully Broxton just Ks Thome and is done with it.
MLSF - It is a save situation anyway because it is only 3 runs now.
damn - cmon JB finish this off.
nice game, Hiro. take it into your next one
Oh come on, Joe! You and early hook! I mean, he ONLY pitched 8 and 2/3!
well its a three run game, thats a save situation.
Actually, the three-run rule only applies to a full inning.
2 outside sliders than an inside fastball sound right?
That was a comical situation.
yessir! good win
haha, has to go back, should of ran.
MLSF - The rule is murkey there.
Wow. Ox just murdered Thome with a 101 MPH fastball. That is insane.
The situation occured in Saturday's game, when Broxton entered the game with a four-run lead. However, he surrendered two runs. If a pitcher came in to replace him, it would have been an automatic save situation, but because Broxton was still in the game, it wasn't.
Kuroda was outstanding. Third home run by King Geoff in 5 days. Let's go Blue!
MLSF - That is a different situation. Broxton pitched himself into that situation. You don't get a save when you create the save situation.
alright everybody its the Dr. Phil show thread.
He (the reliever) enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning.
That is the official rule, as per the MLB rulebook dictates.

You can look it up.
MLSF - I read the rule. Hence I said it was murkey, because I have seen guys with 3 run leads come in in the middle of innings. That said, even one guy on base means you have the tying run on deck.
That's what I said originally that created this controversy.
where is Bud Selig when you need him.
Post-Game Thread is up!
