Randy Wolf (3-1, 2.84) vs. Dan Haren (4-4, 2.54).
COMMENTS: The merry month of May is over, and the Dodgers started their June gloom (as Vinny was fond of reminding us last night) with yesterday's loss. Despite that, the Dodgers are still 4-2 against the Diamondbacks this year.
Wolf has had some hard-luck outings this year but has proven an effective complement to Chad Billingsley. Haren may have the fifth-lowest ERA in the NL, but he's 3-4 with a 4.46 ERA lifetime against the Dodgers. He pitched especially well against the Braves in his last start, however, so don't be surprised if tonight's game is another low-scoring affair.
Brad Ausmus starts behind the plate tonight for the Dodgers. From Ken Gurnick at Dodgers.com:
Brad Ausmus will start behind the plate for the Dodgers on Tuesday night and no, Joe Torre said, it has nothing to do with the five wild pitches that Russell Martin didn't stop Monday night.Torre said the decision was made over the weekend to give Martin Tuesday night off. Matchups probably have something to do with it, as Martin has a .188 lifetime average against Dan Haren, Arizona's starter.
Tonight's occupant of the press box "Blog Spot" at Dodger Stadium is Ernest from Blue Heaven. Have a blast, Ernest!

Sneaks it in ahead of the Delino!
RANCHO ARDIENDO
Two out, unfortunately.
Nice work with that AB Raffy.
Now it is time for the Dog to bark.
Anybody else have that problem where the little rectangle disappears from gameday?
Anyway, Furcal walks to ardiendo the rancho. Which only makes it any base for the third out, helping the Snakes...
Dude - take the hit to the leg.
2-0 count to O-Dog
3-0 to the O-Dog
TAKE THE NEXT PITCH
I'll take a walk here.
"A.J. Hinch may be 35, but Pena's going to make him a lot older in a hurry." —Vin
managing the dbacks requires heavy amounts of drinking.
Gift run! 5-2 D'backs.
just let them walk the lead away.
a four pitch walk. O-Dog fell right into his trap!
Remember that, Mark Loretta. You follow the Sax's advice (unlike last night), the run scores.
And that's why you follow Sax's advice to take a pitch.
(arm falls off)
Pena's stuff was so on last night, but he just lost it on that AB.
Pena just Blue himself.
Can we put Manny in here... and just extend his suspension by a game or two?
Nic, if your tour stops in Oaktown, you're either with a really big band (playing at the Coliseum), or a very small band (playing in Oakland's Chinatown).
Daniel Who?
Dusto, do you know this guy?
Loney, the man of 0-for-3-ish feats tonight, at the plate with the tying run on base.
come on FJL
Wow, he is actually Mark Schlereth's son. I see he inherited his father's facial hair.
little band.
We should get Schlereth and Schlichting together for drinks sometime.
This guy willingly went to Tucson instead of the A's?
Hang one Danny boy. Loney can only hit homers of lefties anyway
they can trade stories about schleroderma
time for a little magic!
Let's see if he earns the other basketball nickname: big game James.
Snyder ran for that like he was thinking "Yes, I can, I think I can, I know I can..."
Situation: Dodgers' rally has occurred while I'm in the next room listening to the TV and Vin.
Should I go into the room with the TV, or stay where I am?
I'm thinking that I'll stay put
right now i'd settle for "tie game james"
LOOOOOONEY!!!!!!
that was kind of cool
i got my wish!!
BIG-FUCKING-GAME JAMES!
i had faith in the guy all along.
Stink's son throws hard. Not hard enough though ;-)
it was the rally chinese food!
and just like that wolf gets another ND, whats that like 5?
WP moves Loney to third!
WP. Loney goes to third.
"There is superstition,...."
Yep, I stayed. And Loney clears the bases and ties the game!!!
all we need is a beard single
Whoooo James Loney!!!
Gentlemen, Big Game King James, royal highness!
Damn, it's like NDs just follow Wolf. This is his ninth.
Nic - Actually, 8.
Brox warming up?
WARM UP BROXTON!
BEARD MODE!
There is joy in mudville!
have they showed the highlight yet for loney's double?
BLAKE WITH THE GO-AHEAD RBI
Who knew Ethier's HR would be so key?
6-5 (as my dad would say) Boner city!!!
WHY, DREW, WHY!?!?
gimme another WP to put Beard in scoring position
damn you,
what is you average for contradictory statement?
I would almost take Loney over Manny in the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, 2 out, down by 3 in game 7 of the World Series.
there you have it, I CALLED IT
A special shout out to all the schmucks who left the game early (apologies if that's any of you)
Talk about falling apart....
BEARD MODE. Make that guy an all-star.
Dodgers 6-D'Backs 5!
Schlereth is jealous of all our WPs last night.
Sax, your wish is his command.
Got back just in time to see that bases loaded hit by Loney and the Bearded One come through
That's one helluva catch.
Dog asking for walk. BRB!
Based on Gameday, Augie really ranged out for that.
DAMMIT NOW I HAVE TO REWRITE MY POST-GAME THREAD
I hate to say "i told you so". This team has a lot of young heart, our duty is support them.
Augie Ojeda is also one of those Dodger killers. Damn him.
Bring on the Big Blue Ox. Perhaps Broxton's nickname should be Babe?
Augie Doggie may have gotten Ethier out, but the rest of his Hanna Barbera troops give up five runs in the inning! Dodgers 6-5, going to the ninth
seems like this place has gotten quite crowded all of a sudden, did i miss something?
Orel, shouldn't that be a good problem?
Now, only three outs left. Go Blue!
Keep putting the cart before the horse on Post-gamers where we are down Orel. It can be the Dodgers version of the Rabid Marsupial of Anaheim.
Orel, just get the SoSG night staff to do the post-game thread. How that cute intern we hired for the summer?
Ali, "rabid marsupial"--nice.
I thought the only problem Anaheim had was the vermin.
That was a strike!
Mr LA SF, to be fair I also have to credit the Fat Tire beer I'm drinking. Good ale, that Fat Tire.
Now watch Augie turn on a 100 mph fastball for the first and last time in his career just to rub it in.
damn, lets not give it back.
"Cute intern". Steve, you are making me feel at home!
i hate ojeda
"I hate to say 'i told you so'. This team has a lot of young heart, our duty is support them."
It's true! All hail Karina!
Brox needs to go inside, not pitch away.
Come on Brox, this would be a nice game to win
Sax - Too true. Actually, I think Disney was cheap and didn't actually get a monkey. They just found a hopping rat.
I was getting worried about Broxton...
Karina, if we could get you out of Venezuela and on staff, I'd fire our summer intern in a second.
Brox gets Augie to ground out. One away.
I think Broxton just remembered that he is pitching to Augie f'ing Ojeda and just started unleashing cheddar down the pipe.
Ali, pretty funny stuff.
Augie 4-3. One out.
300
300
alright parra's up. strike him out for the fans in left field brox!!
you know if Ojeda played for us he more accurately display the scrubbyness that he seems to exude. Just like Eckstein. Looks like a crappy player, would do everything he could to beat us, join us and then play the worst baseball of his life.
Damn you Sax, you and your microbrew beer!
Karina, to continue my thought, you're a much better writer than the intern, without a doubt.
Ah-ey ah-ey, RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrico.
Ah-ey ah-ey, SUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAve.
Sorry about that Mr LA SF. Tell you what, i'll go prol and switch to MGD.
Sorry crowd, that pitch was about 15 feet wide of the plate. 1-2 count.
aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! 300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhh
oops.
My goodness Ox is nasty. 14" of movement on a 98 MPH strike.
seeya parra.
Parra swings and gets nothing. Two away.
Bad ball swinging, Parra Ks.
Two out.
Strike One
Orel - keep the original thread. Change nothing. "SoSG Revisionists" begins now!
nicJ, I thought at first you were saying "sayo-para"
The crowd wants everything to be a strike.
which would have been a stretch, even by Japanese standards
Broxton took something off that slider. It would be insane if he developed a change.
The crowd is ready to erupt
Good thing Parra K'd (not on pinch hitter situations at the Luis Aparicio)
Steve, you just gave me a reason for a wide smile.
Strike 3!
Did I miss anything?
that would have been good, i already used seeya tomorra parra yesterday.
D'Backs Lose
K!
DODGERS WIN!
LONEY IS A STUD!
The Dodgers win!
It's a wrap! Let's go Blue!
Ciao bella.
Ox owned his slider tonight.
ON that replay, I can't understand--how did Chris Young miss that ball?
BOOM!!!!!
TAKE THAT!!!!!!
12th save for brOX
Now i'm curious about the Post Game Thread.
nicJ, seeya tomorra parra is pretty good, admittedly.
Man, FJL was sweet tonight.
Time for the MGD! Good night, everybody!
6 runs off 6 hits. I like the economy of it all.
rbnlaw - Kind of. Basically: Haren dominated, Ethier still owns the guy, Wolf had 1 bad inning and another ND, Joe Torre is still a shit field manager and the Dodgers won despite him thanks to the awesomeness that is James Loney in the clutch.
Delino, re: your rally Chinese food--I think Loney put the POW in your Kung Pao Chicken.
Orel, perhaps Alireza can write the post-game thread.
Thanks Ali.
Actually, I heard the slam, so some of the futility, saw Loney save the day, and The Beard win it. Impressive 2 out nightmare.
This is the kind of win that demoralizes your opponents.
either that or the Dbacks bullpen eggrolled over and died.
Oh, and tonight's Deadliest Catch was pretty good. The Northwestern kicked ass this king crab season.
Kudos to Weaver and Brox, they were very good, specially Weaver.
I'm $400 an hour if you need me Sax ;-)
Fun night here on the thread--thanks Orel, Delino, Karina, Alireza, Dusto, Mr LA SF, NicJ, Penos, What Difference, AC, and anyone else I may have missed.
Thanks, you guys, for watching this game with us!
Alireza, that's a bargain compared to what Orel agreed to pay the intern.
[insert joke here]
they just called Casey a Jeff Daniels lookalike on sportscenter.
Daniels can't rock the beard like Blake.
Time to fall asleep on the couch.
Post-Game Thread is up! Finally!
