DODGERS 3, NATIONALS 1
Zack Greinke helped ring in his first game back from the DL with an impressive 5 1/3 innings, earning the win and helping the Dodgers to take the series victory 2-1. While not flawless (5 runs, 1 ER, 1 HR), Greinke contributed to every facet of the win, knocking a single and an RBI early on that no doubt had a lots of butts puckered in the Dodgers front office.
Matt Kemp stretched his hitting streak to 14 games, and the Noffense was able to scrape together enough runs to come away with the win. Interestingly, Kenley Jansen was brought in to pitch the 8th inning and League the 9th, while last night Mattingly went to Jansen in the 9th.
Overall a very engaging series with the Nationals to bring us to 5.5 games back in the division and 5 games under .500.

This was - I hate to be cliche - but a near make-or-break type series. We drop all three and we're beginning to lose a grip on things. Go 2-3 (combined with Gnats loss) and we're just 5.5 back with some guys back (Greinke) and coming back soon hopefully (HanRam). Much needed as we go on the road. Can you imagine dropping 2 out of 3 or all 3 and then having to get on that team plane?

I would've preferred Mike Diamond to Dustin.
Anecdote: Screech (nee, Diamond) used to date a former student of mine. Apparently he went to her volleyball games at Western High where the students would yell, "Screeeeech" throughout his appearances. He got in someone's face with his "Don't call me that fucking name" routine and soon stopped going to games.
Good times, Mr. Diamond. Good times.
