Chris Capuano (0-1, 9.64) vs. Trevor Cahill (1-3, 2.84).
It's a cold, rainy, and cloudy day in Los Angeles today*, which may be just storm-front related, but sure seems like it's reflecting the Dodgers' difficult start this year. As we lick our wounds after our final three-game series flip in the 2013 season (the Dodgers were swept in both of them, the three-game homestand vs. San Diego, as well as this three-game away trip vs. the Giants), the Dodgers have enough players on the disabled list to field a full team. Which is why we're trotting out Capuano, about whom mlb.com can only state this inspiring tidbit:
Capuano returns from the disabled list and a strained left calf muscle. In his only start for the Dodgers this year, he lasted two-plus innings trying to pitch with the injury.
Nothing like a cold and rainy evening to set the stage for Capuano's comeback, right? (Make sure you allow extra time for warming up, Cap!) But if we're to make up any of this 5.5-game deficit in the division (not to mention ending a four-game losing streak), a win tonight over the third-place Diamondbacks would be a good start.
Let's hope Cap can dump the Diamondbacks tonight:
Oh, and SoSG AC and I will be at the game this evening. We'll be the ones in our SoSG parkas. Drop a line if you want to share a hot toddy.
(*) I wrote this GT at 8a, but during the course of the day, the clouds did start to burn off a bit (it's 11:30a as I write this sentence). But screw it, I'm not changing the GT theme.
Skyline photo from John Maclean photography. Man, Ron Lim is a bad artist.

Perhaps some Rob Liefeld instead?
LOLfeld.
And I couldn't help but look through:

Dylan Hernandez @dylanohernandez:
Adrian Gonzalez said MRI showed a mild strain of neck muscle. Plans to play through pain. Skipped BP. Didn't want to aggravate before game.
Over/under on days before A-Gon aggravates strain and has to go on DL is 2.
Of course, I'm on the blog when no one else is, and I'll be away from a computer when everyone else is here (ie, game time).
EPALEMRF!!
Took me a sec to figure out why they're doing Dodgers Live from the press box. Duh. Rain.
Is there a chance for a rain out?
Yo where Mr. F at???
Mr. F and me, like ships at night.
Ships at night?
Bulls beat the Heat in game 1. Crazy.
Shouldn't be a rainout. Just cold and wet. Perfect weather for guys with sore necks and hammies.
I hope no one hurts their external occipital protuberance tonight.
That wouldn't be Fair to Flair.
Nancy Bea Hefley @NancyBea 7m
I'm fine and here. No DL
Passing like ships in the night, Mr. F. Although I guess that's no longer the case.
So much for the 1-2-3 1st.
Marine layer is the 10th man.
But watch him turn on us now.
We are not losing!
Two on. I have a bad feeling about this.
A-Gon not injured yet? Small victories!
We're winning, but count on the Dodgers to make it seem like a disappointing inning anyway.
A lead?
Lead off single. We better enjoy this wave of positive emotion while we can.
0 out, runners on 1st and 2nd.
Dammit, it's too early for ruh-roh.
Rancho ardiendo. 0 outs.
Cap walks the bases loaded. Business as usual at Chavez Ravine.
Urine!
The team is so bad Urine is becoming only mildly annoying.
really, Crawford?
Scoreboard malfunctioning again, they haven't credited the runs to AZ
The opposing pitcher TRIPLES in two runs?
Well it was fun while lasted. Crawford looked awful on that play.
How.... sad.
What did Crawford do?
It looked like he got shot by a sniper when he got to the ball. The ball got past him, and he took the next three months to chase it to the wall.
Those three runs aren't earned, but they sure as hell should be
Honeycutt, get out there, take the ball, and pitch
They're unearned?
Kings tie it up!
Come on Dee.
Come on, Cap.
Proud guy, that Capuano. Refuses to help his own cause.
We can't trade base advances for outs. Mathematically, it won't work.
All these bourbon burgers...where's my Boone's Farm chicken sandwich?
@Orel 7:43p: Crawford had he ball dropping in front of him, then basically slid on his ass while the ball shot by him and rolled to the fence for a triple by Cahill. What was annoying was if he had just kept the ball in front of him, there wouldn't have been scorage
Crawford catches one! One out
More like CRAPuano, amirite?
It always cracks me up when Vinny talks about Cody Ross wanting to be a rodeo clown. I know, it's a cheap laugh, but these days gotta get 'em where I can.
Cap is getting roped here. It's just a matter of time
Thank you Prado for that museum-quality shank
@Gnomes: AC is pointing out to me how you missed the Dodgers' recent tweet, "Uribe gobbles up..." That one was waiting for your spike
3-2 through three
I think that tweet got deleted! I don't see it.
Why is Dee sac bunting with one out and Cap up next? Makes no sense
Base speed is nothing if you can't get on base, Dee
Ok. Done with dinner and the dishes. In the La-Z-boy hoping I'll fall asleep before we lose.
THAT was an out!
I've never much liked Duke.
I hate cheaters.
Posted an exchange with the Dodgers up top
Mattingly should have thrown a fit on that "dropped fly ball". Now it's 6-2 and Cap officially sucks.
Time to put in Lilly
I see Cap brought his "A" game tonight.
Capuano's ERA: 10.38
I miss the McCourt days. At least then I had someone to blame.
I can't watch this garbage anymore. Fucking fertilizer!
Cap throws better in the dugout.
They're playing Pour Some Sugar On Me, but it should be pouring salt on these open wounds
Pour some fertilizer on this team.
Lots of ummm seats at the game.
A whole new blue certainly feels like same old blue...
Pads leading the fish. A slight push and we will be falling down the stairs into the cellar.
Same guy catches second foul ball
@Dbt: I feel like I'm watching half the isotopes right here
@saxy I hope the Topes have a little more spark. This team has given up. They are flat, lifeless, lame
FoxAZ is showing the D-Bags bullpen partying it up and having a great time. WTF?
I think some heads need to start rolling. Maybe starting with Mac. Something, anything at this point.
@Karen I'm with you. It's time for a wake up call
McGwire or mattingly? Or C all of the above?
Donnie Baseball it was nice knowing you.
Matt Wallach, right the ship
Dusty & Saxy...I really hate to say it because I had such high hopes for Mattingly in the beginning but maybe it's time.
Javy, good to see you
Guerra from Snuggie model to mop up duty.
Kings win!
Matty was doing good on the bases when he first started working with Davey Lopes a couple seasons ago but hasn't been impressive since.
Crawford really rush to get that in.
And here I thought May couldn't be worse than April.
This is a reoccurring nightmare that begins at 7 pm every night.
Let's start the firing squad. Line up, boys, and have a last smoke.
Wow. I don't know what to say.
Hello again, cheap tickets!
S.P.O.S.
Rain coming down
PGT going up
I know this GT is dead, but I'm looking through Mr F's link from 5:37pm last night (comment #3). LOL at this sentence from the linked post:
"In the first panel, Chapel just looks SO SAD. Probably because the fingers of his left hand are all out of order and because his legs don't meet up with his body."
