John Ely (0-1, 7.50) vs. Dave Bush (1-2, 4.60).
COMMENTS: What is the book on Ely? It's hard to tell if Joe Torre's willingness to start him for a second time is a reflection of Ely's talent or an indication of the weakness of the Dodgers' pitching staff. Okay, not really, since our arms have turned out to be the cure for the opposition's ailing bats. After scoring a paltry two runs in four games against the Padres, the Brewers have scored TWENTY-TWO runs against the Dodgers...in only two games. Again, strength of the Padres staff or weakness of Dodgers pitching? An impending Brewers sweep should tell you the answer.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 410 Newer› Newest»Would've had an outstanding scoreless 7-inning start had that one guy not fouled of a billion pitches.
Bravo.
Not Alex Cora level, but that was one hell of an AB.
Jesus f n shit, Belly #1.
Come on Belisario
Gregg Zaun, he of the two-out bloop RBI single, did indeed have a 12-pitch at bat
Charley just figured that point out
I will drive to the Ravine and punch Belly in the face if he blows this for Ely.
Charley Steiner, please stop using my posts for radio content
GBA..mute.
Sax cleared the Johnson.
BELLY - ELY = BL(own)?
Feels like the first quality start all season
Runs, foo's!
s t r e t c h
@Josh
Come pick me up and we can give him the one-two.
Who is the Promise Keeper-lookin' fool doing GBA?
Boys, get some insurance for Ely!
Matty's making bad pitchers look good lately.
@karina 9:31p sorry for acing you out of 200
Did you guys see Serano in the stands?
@Steve Sax i'm not good at getting hundreds. You deserve it!
HOW ARE WE DOING NOTHING AGAINST SUPPAN?!?!
@Paul 9:12p: What are you drinking?
I'm drinking Pillar Box Red, a nice blend (Shiraz, Cab, and Merlot) from Australia. Available at BevMo and K&L, among others. Nice weekday wine; not too expensive, no edge.
Charley says this is Suppan's last year in Milwaukee. What is he, 58 years old?
I'm sure Ned is interested.
@ Sax
Pillar Box Red - that doesn't come in a box, does it?
Hey, whatever happened to the "Real Men of Genius" (formerly "Real American Heroes") commercials?
The one night i don't go to the game the dodgers do well and the guy i gave my seats to caught a foul ball, what a night!
@DB, ha! No, it's a 750ml bottle
I don't like the new placement of the trivia question.
Betsy, he OWES you that foul ball
@DB, I'm not one for the box wine, though I did read an article that white boxed wine (pinot grigio etc), if kept refrigerated, isn't all that bad.
I'll wait to hear it from someone I trust, before trying
kuo gets the first out, pop to second
Josh S: the little guy asleep?
Shout out to Stanford!
@ Sax, funny story i tried giving them away on one of the threads but had no takers. Guy sitting next to me on sat. said he wouldn't mind coming back with his son. Note to self ignore husband when he says no driving to LA...
I can't imagine drinking enough pinot grigio to make boxed, refrigerated wine worth it.
Sit down for Stanford!
(Gerut Ks)
Betsy, if you ever want to give away a pair of seats, please email us!
@Betsy-
What the heck kinda husband is it who doesn't want to go to the Yard? Shame on him!
@DB 9:53p: I'm a red wine guy but I've grown quite fond of white wine on a hot summer afternoon, especially while grilling. At the rate I can swill it, boxed white wine probably isn't that bad of an option...
@Sax
I am drinking a central coast syrah from a small winery call barrel 27.
It isn't cheap but mid range around twenty bucks a bottle. Good wine very balanced. A bit young but I couldn't wait and have more to try in a year and one of winemarkers is a big baseball guy.
Australia wines are a great value right now since some of the snobs and wanna be snobs have moved away from them.
Richie goes down Weeksly.
3-1 LAD, mid-8
@Sax Yep.
Is this the first Dodger game featuring two pitchers with 3 letters in their last name (with no letters shared between them)?
@Sax
Exactly...hot summer day works for that scenario. Lot better than chugging a high octane red zinfandel when it's 98 degrees.
@Paul: Barrel 27 is a good wine. Nice call.
Yeah, I'm with you on the Aussie red wines, though the NZ sauv blancs are creeping up in price.
There seems to be a glut of malbecs on the market.
And I think I read an article about some guy in NoCal buying extra grapes and making his own labeled win, Lot ###?
Will do! i might have some for May 21st and 23rd. I'd rather give them to dodger fans than some lame brain. In defense of the husband (it's what wives do) driving down to OC then over to Chavez ravine then Pomona can be a bit draining.
I'm with Dusty on this one. Most White wine not really in my wheelhouse. Champagne/Proseco ok, no fly on grigio/char
Suppan becoming Suppan again.
@Dusty Baker as a female hardcore baseball fan i haven't ever dated a baseball fan. I even went for 3 dates with a guy that threatened me over the phone "if you go to the stadium, i won't call you anymore". I answered with "i guess this is good bye".
Betsy, i feel your pain.
Josh, now I'm going to drive over and punch you. That's some tedius trivia.
@Sax
if you haven't you should try some different Italian white wines.
Box wine is a better than it use to be but that isn't saying much.
This game is making me feel better.
2nd Blake leadoff walk. They have to score this inning.
Sadly, Martin also turned back into Martin.
gidp martin
For a 3-1 ballgame this sure is taking a while.
@Steve Sax you got 200 but Geryt got his big K. We're even.
Charley Steiner once again TOTALLY MISCALLED THAT FLY BALL TO EDMONDS
Geez, Charley, LOOK AT THE GODDAMN FIELDER WHEN YOU MAKE THE CALL!!!
Luckily Mrs Dusty and her twin sis love their Dodgers so we're all in agreement on what to watch and where to go when our Boys in Blue are in town. Their old man brought them up right.
wow karina, you are one holder of grudges against Gerut
If you also are pulling the hate on Jeffrey Hammonds and Mike Mussina, I'd think there was a theme there
by the way, karina, I'm all about hating my portfolio of players as well. MSB, for one.
@Sax
That ball was never ever planning on getting out of there. How did Charley screw that up?
off the top of my head, the players I dislike and will boo
MSB Eckstein
Craig Counsell
Barry Bonds
Milton Bradley
Sax, why are you Steinering? Stuck somewhere away from the TV?
I think Charley is calling the game from his house, watching gameday on his iPhone
One last thing then I will stop if you haven't tried the wines that barrel 27 wine makers produce you should. Mcprice myers is freaking tremedous and herman's story Grenache is very tasty.
Why does Edmonds alway look like hE is angry at Martin.
I hate Cody Ross. And Brad Lidge. And Jayson Werth. And Cole Hamels. And Chase Utley. And Shane Victorino. And Ryan Madson.
Players I don't like and will boo:
Anyone on the Cards
Anyone on the Yankees
Anyone on the Gnats
Who has the over under on Broxton saves by May 6 at 2?
Victorino has a big fat pumpkin head and I hate him.
edmonds K
I can't believe this is Broxton's second save chance (I don't count that blown save since he came in with runners on in the eighth in what I believe was a tie game).
@Steve Sax i couldn't possibly hate Mike Mussina and Jeffrey Hammonds. My grudge with Gerut is not because he went to Stanford, it's because he played unbearably well against my beloved Aguilas.
Besides, rumor has it that only charming guys graduate from Stanford :)
@Mr LASF ditto.
Dusty, don't criticize Victorino's head; but you can critcize Victorino's body.
Don't criticize Victorino's head; criticize his body.
Don't criticize Victorino's head; criticize his body.
(said while making mad histrionics at the plate)
@paul
Edmonds always looks kinda angry/constipated to me.
I hate Victorino.
I hate the Yankees
I hate Werth but it is like I hate you are so good and i knew but gave up on you hate.
@Josh S: I confess I'm trying to get some work done in a non-TV related room (or I wouldn't get ANY work done). TV is on in the next room so I can run in if I need to stop.
@Steve Sax if you ask for it, i could stop the grudge against Gerut. Just because you're cool like that.
It begins…
@karina: I'll tell EK that you think Stanford guys are charming
Edmonds with the Au chapeau.
Nice one, Sax (re Victorino)!
tying run at the plate, two out
go-ahead run now at the plate.
Come on Brox
gave up on my iPhone since the delay is about 4 hours at this point
Broxton.
Please.
Focus.
Bubba don't shoot the jukebox tonight please.
WTF was Eva Braun doing at third?
wow, I can't believe braun didn't tag and run on that play back there
One more out.
Fuck
Big question will be if Braun had the stop sign.
Put a wig on Ely and get him back in the game.
Ang guess who's up now.
I wonder what college Zaun went. Hate that guy.
Not CC.
3-2
And speaking of craig counsell
That wasn't a strike; it was low.
I'll take it.
0-2 count with two out
@dusty re Braun
I don't know, but that guy can sure reich.
if casey had had his beard, he would have caught that pop foul ball
I hope he doesn't pull an Alex Cora.
I can't look
Agony
I thought that might lure you out, Mr. C.
GODDAMMIT BROX
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
PRE FUCKIN DICTABLE!!!!!
Signing off, folks. Too pissed off.
G'night.
Figures the one fucking time we need Brox to get a fucking outing he fucks it up.
oh hell.
We are cursed.
Even if Carroll had gotten that ball in his frickin' mitt, Fielder wouldn't have scored
Broxton, four singles? Come on.
what the fuck is it about Craig Counsell that turns him into a fucking clutch hitting machine against the Dodgers?
Why must we always find a way to fuck up?
There were 2 outs, why on earth?
Counsell kills us. Except when he was a Dodger, when he largely sucked. But otherwise, he kills us.
Sigh.
Saying fuck eases the pain. Slightly.
Can we please pinch-hit for Carroll leading off the ninth?
And you guys who want to hit someone, go find Mr Wide Eyes and take care of him?
three-pitch strikeout: ABOUT FOUR BATTERS TOO LATE, BROX
Where's Hu when you need him?
I feel so bad for the kid.
Bubba shot the jukebox again even with no Stairs.
On to B9, 3-3 tie.
We really want Milwaukee to have their first series sweep in LA--EVER
Brox wants to eat, et, steal Ely's win.
@Steve Sax it ain't over 'till it's over, in spite we have Carroll, pinch hitter due to pitcher's spot and XP
It's games like this that Jon Heyman will not let Burt Blyleven into the Hall.
This sets up the Andre Ethier walkoff.
Okay so one out.
Ely must want to kick Brox in the nuts
To distract from my simmering rage, I've only booed to opposing players at a game.
Andrw Jones
Eric Byrnes
I love being wrong.
Carroll's gameday pic is starting to get annoying.
Carroll actually gets a single.
Don't go punch him out just yet, guys. He may be redeeming himself.
KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL, JAMEY
wow, that pickoff move is as slow as James Baldwin's walk to the dugout
^two
GA? Crap.
How about a productive AB GA
Why does the new issue of Sports Illustrated have Ben Roethlisberger on the cover?
Isn't that story like three months old? Or more?
No win for Ely, but at least he is getting sent down to a team that actually wins.
Anderson *did* have an RBI single last night. So I'll withhold spewing criticism for now
Shout out to Music Man fans! "Gary Indiana!"
Easy fly out for GA
You can't spell GAme over without GA
In play, out(s). Figures.
XP, put this game away and put Reed Johnson off the Dodgers' roster
Well, at least GA didn't watch three go by.
Motherfucker piece of shit no one can fucking sacrifice in this god for sakin team.
Everyone realizes it's a tie game, and if we don't score runs there's still more baseball?
Look at me, doing my best impression of an optimist.
As Paul would normally say, GA should have been told to bunt.
Hiroki Kuroda on the mound tomorrow
In other words XP clear the Johnson for good.
@nic 10:26
Ouch.
1-2 count to XP
How has Kuroda not picked up a SoSG nickname of HiKu yet? His GT entries could be written in prose.
wait a minute, is Ely definitely being sent down?
XP reaches!
come ON Matt Kemp, let's do this
Don't.
Strike.
Out.
You have one career walk-off, which (due to the top-10 highlights last night) is at least nine fewer than Andre Ethier
@Jason 10:31p: funny, we used to do haiku posts, but they didn't get a lot of responses.
Maybe we'll do some.
Now is the time to re-start?
Haiku is cool shit.
Ethier on deck, hoping for a walk-off opportunity of his own
Come on Kemp Come on Kemp Come on Kemp
2-2 count to Kemp
Okay here is your pitch Matt.
Jason
Verse, but I follow. It had never occured to me but I like it
Sweet. Now we just need an aptly placed out.
WP, Carroll to third!
Just hit the ball high and really, really, really, really hard, Kempy
Sacky sac sac sac!
Nice!!!
90 feet away.
RANCHO WALKOFFMAYBIENDO
Don't look now, but...
walk to Kemp, probably deliberately. May as well re-set for AE and hope for the double-play, right Macha?
I love it.
Mr. Walk-off up.
let's go, Andre
3 MORE BALLS
1-0 to Andre
Vin says all the pressure is on Hawkins
I think there's a little pressure on Andre
Nicely done Steve Sax
Advance on wild pitch Wide Eyes
Here comes Ethier
TWO MORE BALLS
2-0 to Andre, that ball was way wide
Okay nice start.
2-0!
TWO LESS STRIKES
Jason, you saw my haiku and raised me one.
2-1 to Andre
MR LA SF, that's "TWO FEWER STRIKES"
ONE LESS STRIKE DAMMIT
make that one fewer strike
2-2 count
Okay now this is tough.
dre's gonna do this
I'M TOO EXCITED FOR CORRECT PROSE
uh-oh.
THERE IT IS!
WALK OFF GRANNY!!!!!!
GS WALK OFF
SUCK IT KELLY JOHNSON
Andre hits in the clutch one more time!!!!!
Grand Slam!!!!!!
Yeeeeeehaw.
Mother of god. My first born will be named Andre.
No way.
No fucking FUCKING WAY!!!!!
BWAHAHAHAHA doing it in grand style. Gay for Dre
That shit was a winner the minute it left the bat. The granny's just icing on the cake.
