Game 10 Thread: April 16 vs. San Francicso, 7p

Vicente Padilla (0-1, 11.42) vs. Todd Wellemeyer (0-1, 5.68).

Gameday

The Giants and the Dodgers have already dried up more bad blood than the Red Sox and the Yankees will ever spill.
—Tom Singer, MLB.com

COMMENTS: How does it feel, Dodger fans? The Dodgers haven't had a losing season against San Francicso since 2005, when they went 9-10. Now the 4-5 Dodgers are looking up at the 7-2 Giants, who have arguably the National League's best pitching staff.

The Dodger bats have been afire, but their pitching staff has more holes in it than a sieve dipped in acid. After dropping a series to the Pirates and eking a series win against the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers run into a potential buzzsaw in the Giants — especially with Tim Lincecum starting tomorrow.

On a happier note, both teams will wear #42 again tonight in continued observance of Jackie Robinson Day. Ah, Jackie. We'll always have Jackie.

We better tee off on this washed up pitcher tonight.

Both teams are thinking that.

Have I ever mentioned how strongly I dislike the Giants?

DIE DIE GIANTS DIE!!!!

That's a combination of English and German for "DIE THE GIANTS DIE!!!!"

You have noted such as I recall, but it's always helpful to be reminded of your hatred. There's an important lesson in there for us all.

SoSG reader Paul in the Yard tonight, per his Tweet.

^ Well god dammit wrong account.

Reading McCovey Chronicles to rejuvenate my hatred for Halloweentown. It's working. Working too well. I now feel like punching a baby.

Neeebs said...

@Mr. F

Like it.

Steve Sax said...

It takes two google accounts to handle all oh Dusty's Giants hatred.

Neeebs said...

Speaking of Google Ads, I love the byline on Cougar Life, "they're all grown up now."

NicJ said...

Haha, just noticed to typo on the headline. Take that giants equipment manager!!

Steve Sax said...

Glad you caught it, NijC!

Steve Sax said...

@Mr LA SF: I actually like the writing sometimes on McCovey Chrons. He must be psyched to finally have something to write about...

MR. F said...

Typo where?

Paul said...

What is up with the telemundo commercials for indian movies at the stadium?

God Brian Wilson is a douche bag.

Stadium looks great!

Josh S. said...

Let's do this!

MR. F said...

Brian Wilson should be traded to Arizona.

NicJ said...

If there is one good thing about the giants being good is it kickstarts a rivalry. Over the past four years or so the giants have been so terrible I find it a chore to hate them.

I want to see the rest of the team filled with a healthy dose of hatred toward the giants.

MR. F said...

"Over the past four years or so the giants have been so terrible I find it a chore to hate them."

Probably because you don't live in giant country.

Paul said...

Mr. F

I feel ya. Living in enemy territory if the giants win two in a row you get to hear how great the team is but they suck!!!!!!

Paul said...

Is the R&b night?

Lovin the songs. That girl is poisonnnnn.

Dusty Baker said...

As a former Guns 'n Roses man in my misspent youth, it always galls me when I see Slash or one of the others all cleaned up and acting patriotic and shit. I want Slash to be throwing JD bottles onto the field and peeing behind the portable concession stand, not playing the national anthem.

NicJ said...

Haha, I think I remember hearing Maury Wills in an interview say that he still hates all the giants to this day and that if he saw Willie Mays car broken down on the side of the road he would keep driving.

HA! Now that's hate.

Dusty Baker said...

In short,Slash should be a Phillies fan.

55 MPH "fast"ball

Vin siad they probably used an hourglass not a speed gun to clock that Padilla throw.

NicJ said...

padilla rockin it tonight.

that first inning made me feel much better about having to stay in on a Friday and study for a business law final...

Dusty Baker said...

I love how all the umpires are also #42 for tonight's game.

MR. F said...

WHOOO!!!

Watching the game with my Giants fan roommate. Muahahahha.

NicJ said...

HELLFUCKENYES!!!!!!!!!!!

Danielle said...

I hate the Giants, but sometimes I really love playing them....

Josh S. said...

Wellemyer is my new favorite pitcher.

Dusty Baker said...

Giants, can we play you every night?

Josh S. said...

Time to check in with McCovey Chronicles...

Dusty Baker said...

That was E's first grand slam.

That was E's first grand slam?

Steve Sax said...

Danielle, welcome! Give us a business law question, we're ready!

Dusty Baker said...

I hear Frank McCourt is looking for some business law expertise.

Mr. Customer said...

Hey, this is going well!

This is some funny shit.

Josh S. said...

Manny sitting already? I realize he didn't do much tonight, but moves like that make me nervous.

Danielle said...

too bad I haven't taken community property yet, then I could get a summer position with Frank McCourt for sure...

Padilla has an ERA under 10. Progress!

Josh S. said...

Manny has tightness in his baby cow.

Steve Sax said...

Save some runs for Lincecum, boys!

We better tee off on this washed up pitcher tonight.
(4/16/2010 4:55 PM)

oh yes we are!

Steve Sax said...

Bochy is letting Wellemeyer hang. Somewhere, Madison Bumgartner weeps.

Padilla's ERA: now below 8. And no, i am not talking about it.

Steve Sax said...

Not talking about his performance tonight so far, that is.

Why does FJL have 2ks in 2ABs?

NicJ said...

there goes the no hitter

Steve Sax said...

Ethier grounds out, bench the bum

Steve Sax said...

Oh well.

Anyone have a report on Manny's injury? Bad?

NicJ said...

im thinking its a Manny is tired injury

NicJ said...

no lead is safe with our pitching staff

NicJ said...

we have to keep scoring runs.

Neeebs said...

Stuck at the mall with the girls. What the hell am I missing?

NicJ said...

Padilla possibly pitching hurt.

NicJ said...

maybe its just a mental block after the 4th inning.

NicJ said...

Ouch

NicJ said...

padilla falling apart

Mr. Customer said...

What is it about the fifth inning that is so problematic.

Steve Sax said...

Stay on target...

Who is injured?

NicJ said...

rowand got nailed right in the head

NicJ said...

man this is one swing away from being a game.

NicJ said...

NVM, I lve Dewitt BTW

MR. F said...

Phew!

NicJ said...

alright now we have to score some more runs.

NicJ said...

So, who is going to get nailed in retaliation?

Even though i was obviously an accident, i think.

Dusty Baker said...

Just checked in at the cantina in time to see the assassination. Hope Penguin Lite is ok. Saw fans on TV clapping for him which was class (whew!)

NicJ said...

DO-IT DEWITT!!

NicJ said...

Dewalk'd in RBI

Dusty Baker said...

No...bottom scroll...button

NicJ said...

DP, but a run in so its cool.

NicJ said...

i dont even feel safe with a 7 run lead. An Ortiz looms in the bullpen.

NicJ said...

damn panda

Hong Like a Chih Kuo said...

Come on Battletoad, get thru 7!!!

NicJ said...

Vin talking about hairy coats, can you tell its a blowout?

NicJ said...

padilla should be able to go through 7, only at 85 pitches.

NicJ said...

Kemp finally gets a chance to work on some stolen bases.

NicJ said...

damn, too fast.

NicJ said...

Im surprised Vin knows who Jerry Seinfeld is.

NicJ said...

Slash Fail

Neeebs said...

Back home and a concert breaks out.

Dusty Baker said...

Noooo! Wasn't a Slash fail. He lost his pedal so instead just went with the flow, plugged straight in, and picked that sucker. I thought it was top class!!

Josh S. said...

Slash looked like Bret Hart.

Dusty Baker said...

What was that strange Dodgers "SP" doing pitching in the 7th? Did MLB change the rules or something?

Dusty Baker said...

It's just too weird to hear Vin say "Guns and Roses."

Dusty Baker said...

Or "Alice in Chains"

Josh S. said...

It doesn't medder who the Giants throw out there.

Josh S. said...

Try not to GIDP, Russ.

Josh S. said...

Voldemortiz warming. Shit.

Tonight is where he finally reveals he's still a Giant.

Dusty Baker said...

Padilla is sweating like a French soldier. Does he have some disease?

Josh S. said...

That was funny.

Dusty Baker said...

Mrs. Dusty said their pitcher runs like a girl.

NicJ said...

Guitar Tech Fail, then.

Josh S. said...

Casey's fall closely resembled Tommy's All-Star tumble.

NicJ said...

SO do former giants come back to haunt the giants like former dodgers haunt the dodgers?

NicJ said...

dewitt needs to pick up the slack, only one batting under .300 in the lineup. Pffff

fostermatt said...

Oh God, the corpse of Russ Ortiz. Can we DFA him right now please?

Josh S. said...

What happened to the cameras?

Josh S. said...

Loge-o-vision

fostermatt said...

Don't know, I have to listen to it. No KCAL in vegas =/

NicJ said...

FIre up the DFA-O-Meter

Dusty Baker said...

Guitar fail. Camera fail. Wellemeyer fail.

Josh S. said...

The only time Russ Ortiz has looked small.

NicJ said...

whats up with the camera angle, I thought this was the Major League.

Dusty Baker said...

Is this being broadcast from someone's iPhone?

fostermatt said...

Any reason Monasterios isn't pitching right now? Isn't this the perfect time for a kid to make his bones?

NicJ said...

Keep the Crappy angle, Russ is pitching better.

Josh S. said...

Russ got a strikeout?

Josh S. said...

Russ got TWO STRIKEOUTS?!

Dusty Baker said...

The camera adds 65 pounds to Ortiz.

Dusty Baker said...

It might be a good time for Monasterios, yeah. Save the others...from themselves.

NicJ said...

Im thinking C'Mon might be on his last legs, he looked really terrible his last outing and rule 5 guys dont get a lot of leeway

NicJ said...

The DFA-O-meter just blew up.

Dusty Baker said...

Did I have the scoop on DSBG not being there or what?

LA Times can pick this up as breaking news.

fostermatt said...

1 decent inning doesn't save a career, or hopefully a season.

fostermatt said...

DSBG?

Dusty Baker said...

They took the glass off the Stadium Club?

Dusty Baker said...

Don't Stop Believin' Guy

NicJ said...

i think the writing is on the wall with Russ at the moment. Ra Ortiz gets put in game with slightlt more to lose and Russ has been a mop up man for the past few outings now.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Is there anything like killing the Giants?

NicJ said...

no, no there isnt.

Dusty Baker said...

Fuck a jesus bat.

NicJ said...

Well jesus was a carpenter so i guess it make sense.

Dusty Baker said...

^Context: some teaser for KCAL piece tonight on some foolz who are all into the lord and make baseball bats with a supposed higher power infused into their product.

Dusty Baker said...

hopefully there wil be a virgin birth of a long reliever

NicJ said...

there is the Russ Ortiz i know.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

The DFA-O-Meter is tilting back towards Russ.

NicJ said...

god damn you Ortiz. Tron has to get loose now.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I don't think the team is going to get rid of Monasterios until it is scientific fact that he cannot provide anything to the bullpen. One way to find out for sure is to FUCKING USE HIM ONCE IN A WHILE.

NicJ said...

I'd like to hit Russ with a Jesus bat right about now.

NicJ said...

yeah i know, i like c'mon a lot but the last thing we need is another pitcher that cant throw strikes.

Good money is still on Russ to be the first to get the boot.

Dusty Baker said...

i'd like to hit timmeh with a judy bat

Dusty Baker said...

THIS GUY CANNOT FUCKING PITCH.

CUT HIM NOW NED

NicJ said...

Russ is more trouble shutting the door on the Giants than he does shutting the door on the fridge.

NicJ said...

id rather have kuo in throwing right handed right now.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Though you're really only saying that based on one bad outing. Give Monny a try (I'm going to call him Monny from now on to keep in theme with Manny).

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Can you call it a Walk of Shame when it's Russ Ortiz being pulled?

NicJ said...

When joe went for the ball he should have asked for his uniform too.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

You won't have Russ Ortiz to kick around any more.

NicJ said...

Im just going based off the facts that a rule 5 guy rarely works out.

Unless you get him from the dodgers and then he turns out to be Roberto Clemente.

MR. F said...

Can we finally cut Voldemortiz please?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

OH FUCKING SHIT

NicJ said...

man our bullpen sucks.

Josh S. said...

It's cool. Tron just wanted to run up Russ's ERA.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

WHEN THE HELL WILL BELLY AND KUO GET BACK?

Dusty Baker said...

I could have jogged down to Chavez, stood in the bathroom line, and had time to swing at that slow piece of shit that Tron threw to Velez.

What an unsatisfying game, when it should have been so fine.

NicJ said...

I guess Tron wanted Ortiz off the team too. That just jacked up his ERA

Mr. Customer said...

Seriously. A rubber arm is only useful if you can use it to throw and occasional strike.

NicJ said...

Josh beat me too it.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Well, a win is a win is a win is a win. And it's a win against the Giants. Crappy bullpen and all, I'd say that makes for a good game.

Orel said...

PHEWPGTUP

Mr. Customer said...

Plus, it's another frowny-face in the Russ Ortiz column that didn't really hurt the team. Hopefully some day soon Colletti will put an end this abusive relationship once and for all.
