DODGERS' RECORD WITHOUT MANNY: 26-17
Chad Billingsley (9-3, 2.83) vs. Clayton Richard (2-1, 4.03).
COMMENTS: New pitcher alert! This is Richard's first game against the Dodgers — which of course gives him the advantage. But the second-year pitcher struggled in his last start, against the Reds, lasting only three innings. Hopefully the Dodgers can treat Richard a little more Dankfully and avoid the Floyd treatment.
In the other dugout, Billingsley has to contend with not only a White Sox team that caught the home run bug last night, but also a Dodgers team that is looking for him to protect their series winning streak against AL teams. And he'll have to do it sans Loney. Momentum is not on Chadley's side; can he be the stopper the Dodgers need?
Now, who else is thirsty?

D'oh!
Exact same score and everything as the Angels' debacle. Crap.
That was a meatball.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Oh, you're right Alireza. This is just what the final score was in the Angels game.
That was so heartbreaking, and of course it had to be biggest douche on the planet who did it to us.
So long, win #10.
Alright, let's get the lead back! This CANNOT stand!
Well that sucked. Hopefully we pick Chad up next inning.
Is there such a thing as a manager having too much faith in a pitcher? Is there any way this situation pays off later in the year?
If it isn't the former Dodger, it's the former Giant.
It gives the bullpen a little more rest.
MLSF - I'd take a Beast Bunt and a Martin dinger here.
I'd take any dinger.
I don't see how the last two games could possibly be helping Chad's confidence. Now he gets into trouble in games, and instead of thinking, "I can get out of this," he'll be thinking, "Remember those two games in a row where I couldn't get out of this?"
gotta bear down better than that. you got the guy you needed to get in Konerko and you let them off the hook again. damndamndamn
I was against trading for an ace because I thought that would prevent Chad from properly developing into one.
Now...I'm not so sure. He's got a bad case of 6th-inning-itis.
God, I am so depressed right now. Come on, guys. It is too early in the day for me to feel this way.
Beast Mode leads the comeback!
We need to win. Then everyone can say, "oh, the White Sox hit nine home runs in the series, but the Dodgers still won."
There we go, Juan. Let's manufacture something here.
Step 1: Complete
I hope Martin can fulfill Step 2.
Just hit it in the air, Martin.
Beast on. Lets hope the Leg Kick leads One Drop to a Home Run.
Or it could just be a couple bad outings for Chad. Why are people so quick to lose faith?
These back to back mediocre performances are very worrisome. Maybe Bills has some sort of anxiety problem, he might me mildly injured but as Erin states, whatever reason is, it's gonna hurt his overall confidence.
They fear the Beast and I got the 227 post.
Lakers sell the 29th pick for $3 million.
It could be the weather. Steiner keeps talking about how it's in the 90's with the humidity.
Broxton gave up 4 runs in 2 games after only giving up 4 all year. I don't see anyone worrying.
They are scared shitless of Pierre.
Oh, fuck.
Geez, JP.
My eye tells me that was the wrong call.
Mariano Duncan tells you that, too.
Alireza, it's the identical nature of the back-to-back meltdowns that worries me. I wouldn't say I've lost faith, I just don't like the signs.
Hard to say on the replay, though. It was close. Tie should go to the runner.
Did they pluck Juan?
Big Russ replaces Pierre
Lose one runner, get one back.
Now can we capitalize on another White Sox mistake?
Hmmm, Martin gets on, on an error.
O-Dog single! 1st & 3rd, one out!
Fing Juan Pierre, sack o shiz!
Okay, now we're cooking.
Think of it as a fielder's choice that gives Ramirez worse fielding stats.
O-Dog keeps things alive!
Oh what could have been...
Would be really nice if Matt Kemp was the 3 hole hitter here.
O-Chien heating up!
C'mon, beard.
Just a fly ball, Casey!
Actually, Martin probably would have GIDPed if JP was still on.
Ok Casey. Go Beard on them.
I'm not saying what would have been, I'm saying what it basically is.
DAMN YOU, STEINER!
Juuuuust foul!
Wow. That looked like it hit the chalk.
Dammit Steiner!
Or not???
FAIR BALL. God damn it! Terrible call, ump!
I feel like my fingers have Tourette's right now.
replay?
Erin's lucky. I'm stuck with nothing but Gameday and Steiner.
They need replay for fair/foul calls.
That cost him a strike, right? So now if he strikes out, we can blame that terrible call. Not to mention the fact that it cost us a run.
Part of me wants Casey to walk or single or something and for Bison to be the hero.
Casey's making him work.
Way to work the count full, Casey.
He's worked the count full. Good at-bat, Blake. Don't blow it, please.
C'mon Casey, do it for the Mudville 9.
TIE GAME!
JOE TORRE IS A GENIUS
Excellent. Sending the runner worked out so well there. Thank god.
Sending the runner made all the difference there.
Uno mas!
In play, run(s)
Blake, in play (runs). How many?
dammit
5-5
Uno Karina. RBI Ground out
Damn it Kemp.
I assume Chad is done. Or does he keep trying for #10?
At least that takes Chad off the hook for the loss.
just tuned in from work to see that run, is bills still pitching?
OK new game, Bills off the hook.
guess not
Bright side: it's a new game.
Belly Mode, OK.
Cain's pitching tomorrow. I'm gonna root like hell for the Brew Crew.
Why the on-field delay?
Disco Demolition?
Nice easy inning for Belly.
It's up to Mark, Mitch, and Brad.
Ex-Padre Scott Linebrink?
"Why the on-field delay?"
Umpires' discussion about whether Podsednik was out of the batter's box on a bunt attempt.
300
Loretta grounds out. Ethier to replace Mitch.
Ethier's in.
Nice. One-out walk.
Ethier gets a walk.
Sax is now in the HOUSE!
And it's 5 to 5. What did I miss?
Just read the Gameday scoring plays. AJ with a three-run homer? Ugh.
Come on, Dodgers!
Ugh, dammit.
Why did the ump need that douche to tell him that it was a foul tip?
God, I hate that guy.
What a crappy way to K. The ball nicked Ausmus' bat and he didn't even swing.
Ausmus Ks. Two out, Andre's gotta steal.
Furcal in for Castro.
Furcal PH? Oh boy...
I HATE JOE TORRE
It's one-handed-slap-homer time!
I guess the good news is we'll have the top of the order in the ninth.
The bad news? The top of the order includes Juan Pierre.
Dammit.
bullshit.
Way to be, Furcal. Just watch 'em go by.
Yeah, that was not so much of a good PH at bat.
at least raffy gave him a tough at bat there
Erin, Pierre is batting .500 today and he's got the best avg in the lineup now that Fidel is sitting
ANYONE ELSE SURPRISED ABOUT A K FROM FURCAL. NOT ME.
Casey Blake likes doing the spin move at third. Keeps him young.
What's happening Sax? You've taken to defending JP?
I HOPE FURCAL GETS HURT... IT WOULD HELP THE TEAM
Damn Dye.
Ugh. Dye double.
Belly knows Anderson. They were teammates for a very brief time.
Who's gonna back him up, Dusto? Castro? DeWitt?
OK, I guess DeWitt wouldn't be so bad.
Dusto, you seem to be yelling. are you angry? anything we can do?
back him up=replace him, I mean.
What happened to the throwback organ?
Erin, I have to say, I've been pleasantly surprised by Slappy since the suspension. He's been a pleasant surprise rather than a black hole, and I was praying for neutral, so that's beyond my expectations.
I'm refraining from picking on him for now, I admit.
BEAST MODE!
Two out, runner at third.
this game is keeping me from dinner
Furcal hit a nerve on Dusto. Not the ball.
IBB Konerko. Makes sense.
Wonderful, it's Konerko, the man the Dodgers gave up on.
I think we know how this story ends.
Dusto wants us to go Tonya Harding on Furcal.
leach mode?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get Konerko out.
gameday is f'd up, but it looks like they're walking paul
I'm starving, but i'm not moving 'till the game ends.
Yeah, I liked Pierre for a while, too, but his numbers prove he was pretty much just on a nice hot streak at the right time, to paraphrase MSTI. The numbers have been declining over the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, I just read that conversation Lyons and Collins had about statistics, and I'm sorry to say that Steve Lyons is no longer my boyfriend. His evaluation of players says that teams should be entirely comprised of Darin Erstads and David Ecksteins. No thank you.
They walked him to get to the blonde asshole.
Who is this pinch runner at third? I thought Brady Anderson had retired.
Good thing Jenks pitched yesterday.
Or just walk him.
karina, you and i must be having dinner together tonight. I didn't have this in my calendar, what a nice surprise!
Me too, Saxy - i've got some world class pizza waiting on me. my loyalties are tested!
BEAST MODE IS BATTING LIKE 245 IN jUNE... SO IT WAS A NICE 3 WEEKS AND A TYPICALLY BAD 3 WEEKS.
Next guy is 0-for-3 and bats .242, I'm just saying
damn, that was closer than it should have been.
Why couldn't they use a little of Drysdale's philosophy?: plunk Konerko, save 3 pitches...
Nice head first slide into 1B!
Loretta with the headfirst tag of first base!
leach mode it is!
Hey Dusto, you gotta lay off the caps lock up there in alaska
Dusto, should I contact tech support about your caps lock key?
I'm kidding. It's a frustrating game. I understand.
7 LOB for the Dodgers, 4 for the Sox.
Not sure if that included the 8th, there.
"Steve Lyons is no longer my boyfriend."
So tragic!
I thought I called Rosin Mode.
No Jenks. That's good.
Transformers 2 made $60 million yesterday.
"Steve Lyons is no longer my boyfriend."
Good title for a reality show.
I'll tell you right now that I will never see Transformers 2.
I heard Transformers 2 sucked.
Erin, JP is going to mash here and make you eat your words.
Or, not.
Well Sax, he mashed it, but right at Pot-said-nic.
And it sucks worse than your average Michael Bay movie, so that's really saying something.
"I'll tell you right now that I will never see Transformers 2."
Okay, make that $59,999,986.
How does Martin look today, o mighty ones with a television set?
O-Dog is our last hope.
Steiner and his web of lies...
Good or bad, Transformers 2 will make a ton of money, and Michael Bay will make a third one.
Fastball right down the middle, and Martin grounds 6-3
Well, this certainly is not the power part of the lineup. Pray for extras so we can see Beard, Bison, and No-Photo.
i do want to go see Megan Fox 2, however.
Getz, Fields, Wise in the bottom of the ninth for the Comiskey Boys.
"How does Martin look today, o mighty ones with a television set?"
Solid single, reached on an error. Made contact but nothing spectacular.
With my week off, I saw Transformers yesterday. It's no Schindler's List, but it met my guidlines for a summer blockbuster.
"Erin, JP is going to mash here and make you eat your words"
I never thought you were going to say that, Steve.
Dinner with you, anytime!
The fact that Michael Bay gets to keep making "films" is ridiculous. The fact that so many people keep seeing them is just embarrassing.
"Good or bad, Transformers 2 will make a ton of money, and Michael Bay will make a third one."
Bad: It puts us further away from his personal, artistic indie film we've been dying to see.
Rain & sun in Chicago!
The idea of a summer blockbuster should be redefined. There's nothing wrong with a coherent plot to go along with all those special effects. Or a decent script, for that matter.
Go see "Public Enemies" next week.
I'm surprised Leach is still in. Torre hasn't used him as a two-inning guy much, if at all.
Leo Getz walks.
Orel, the most Leach has pitched all season is an inning and a third.
Oh boy, this is tough.
Looks like we are heading toward our first series loss in a while.
Lyons acts like WHIP means nothing at all. Like it doesn't matter how many walks and hits a pitcher gives up an inning, just as long as his uniform is dirty while he's doing it.
Get it on the ground here.
I don't know what BRK and PFX mean on Gameday, but I do know that Brent Leach just pitched five straight pitches with single digits in each column.
And the sums of the rows don't exceed 15.
Leadoff walks will kill you
Leach is outta here.
Who will we bring in?
YES!
Damn
Sorry Mr LA SF
crap i gotta go. get us a win in my absence, OK?
Tron's coming in.
We're 6-1 in extra inning games? Whoa.
"Orel, the most Leach has pitched all season is an inning and a third."
And it'll stay that way. Leach out, Tron in.
