Game 41 Thread: May 16 @ Angels, 7p

Hiroki Kuroda (1-2, 3.59) vs. Joe Saunders (6-1, 2.48).

COMMENTS: The Angels own the Yankees. Do the Angels own Joe Torre? Ken Gurnick says the prognosis is grim:

[The Dodgers] were 5-10 in Interleague games last year and are 4-23 in road Interleague games over the past four years. They've lost their last five in Anaheim and eight of nine there.

However, Kuroda is coming off 6 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, and the Dodgers are coming off a rare three-homer game inning. The Dodgers' two-game winning streak—"A modest thing, but thine own," as Vin would say—gives them a modicum of momentum. The DH means there won't be an outfield controversy for the next three days. And really, that's all I can come up with because let's face it, Angel Stadium is a piranha tank and the Dodgers are a fatted calf. So here's a picture of WALL•E!

(Looking for a comparison of both teams? 6-4-2 has a thorough analysis.)

Pierre, DH
Jones, CF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Martin, 3B
Loney, 1B
Ethier, LF
Maza, SS
Bennett, C
Kuroda, P

As expected, this is our first game with Pierre, Jones, Kemp and Ethier. Martin at 3B makes you wonder if DeWitt's injury is bigger than he's letting on.

The Dodgers SUCK!! The Angels are going to sweep.

Orel said...

That didn't take long.

Eric Karros said...

Hey Joe Saunders: you see that photo of WALL-E? Get ready to strike an eerily similar pose tonight - early and often.

Orel said...

Cavs 42, Celtics 33 at the half.

Alex Cora said...

Twins 2, Rockies 0 in the 4th.

karina said...

Epale, everybody!

I hope the Dodgers and Joe Torre prove they're not owned by the Angels.

p.s: does anyone feel weird about seeing Mike Scioscia wearing red?

karina said...

nice Pierre catch, but his noodle arm...

Alex Cora said...

Wow, Kuroda looks shaky - the "other" Guererro crushed that ball, luckily Pierre tracked it down.

Alex Cora said...

hey Karina: what do you use to watch these games? Season pass on cable or the internet?

Alex Cora said...

Alright! Martin continues his hot hitting with a single up the middle.

Alex Cora said...

Damn, DP off of James Loney's bat.

karina said...

Cable and Gameday. I used to buy mlb.tv but we have a foreign currency control over here and the amount of money you can spend on internet purchases was dramatically lowered, so i couldn't buy it this year.

I've got Directv so i can watch updates over the strike zone channel.

I hope they can hit Saunders as they did with Sheets.

karina said...

I've got a question for you AC:

Eric Karros posted some links of real state in Milwaukee, but i have an idea:

Let's convince the Dodgers management you can give the team lots of SGoS mojo, so they pay you to watch every game of the team, would you like that?

Alex Cora said...

Two Words: Dream Job.

Orel said...

Epale, mofos! Are we in for another pitching duel?

Orel said...

I am stuck with the Angels announcers.

Alex Cora said...

So are watching the games "live" or do you just get updates. Also, what is the strike zone channel - does it show every MLB game?

Alex Cora said...

yeah, I have to listen to the Angels announcers too - but the good news is that I haven't heard Rex Hudler yet.

Orel said...

Cavs doing everything they can to lose Game 6....

Orel said...

Mike Nappily at bat!

Orel said...

Hey AC, great observation about Bennett knowing Sheets, having caught him before. I hadn't read that anywhere else.

Alex Cora said...

Hey the angels announcers are bagging on Bennett's lolligagging the ball back to the pitcher.

Alex Cora said...

Thanks - I used to be the treasurer of the Gary Bennett Fan Club.

Orel said...

Damn, a chippie hit. 1st & 2nd for the Angels.

Orel said...

Used to be? What happened?

Orel said...

Cavs win!

Alex Cora said...

We lost all of our money. For some reason there were monthly checks to some "trainer" for "supplies". Never figured out what they were for, but it drained the funds.

Orel said...

Ha!

Orel said...

Uh-oh, Scioscia sighting!

Orel said...

Andruw turns an error into an out.

karina said...

The Strike Zone Channel shows every single interesting thing on every single MLB game: a nice catch, a home run...you get the idea.

It's only available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Right now i'm watching the game on tv like i'll be tomorrow, too.

One of the perks of Directv is i can get programming in their original language, that's how i get to listen to Vin Scully once in a while =)

Orel, last year i saw a Dodgers and Giants game and i was stuck with the Giants announcers (they weren't broadcasting in Spanish). I swear i had homicidal tendencies.

Alex Cora said...

One can only take so much Jon Miller.

Orel said...

We are totally spoiled by Vin, Karina. He's the only neutral broadcaster left. So it's not only a Giants thing, although I'm sure that made it more annoying.

Did you inherit a hatred of the Giants with you love of the Dodgers?

Orel said...

Dinner time! Bon appetit!

Alex Cora said...

That was a bad inning for the dodgers, could have had a man on 1st.

karina said...

My heart breaks every time i see Scioscia. He's not only one of my favorite Dodgers, he's one of my favorite baseball players ever.

Andruw Jones ran like he genuinely doesn't care. I think we all could expect a tiny little bit of attention on his part.

karina said...

Exactly, Orel.

When i was little, i only disliked them, when i started learning about Dodgers history, i developed an incurable hatred towards the Giants. Barry Bonds didn't help either (even before the steroids accusations).

As Leones del Caracas fans, i hate Giants fans.

Once, a Giants fan tried to stay at my great seat on the Luis Aparicio stadium, fully dressed with a Giants cap and jersey. I had to get an usherette but i really wanted to strangle him.

Alex Cora said...

Wow - that was a HORRIBLE play by Bennett. Strikeout but Bennett lobs it to first. Maybe he should practice throwing to the pitcher. Man that was bad. Angels up 1-0.

karina said...

Awesome play by Martin!

Love that guy like a son!

Alex Cora said...

Nice play by Martin to save a run.

Alex Cora said...

Man, Loney has a sweet swing. Inside out hit against a lefty pitcher. Nice.

karina said...

that's why he's a King.

Alex Cora said...

Hey maza with another hit!

Alex Cora said...

Hey Hey Bennett CAN throw it to first.

karina said...

and another great play by maza!, if he hadn't caught it, it would have been a double, or a triple if Pierre had to catch it!

maybe he's not extraordinaire, but he's good

Alex Cora said...

Vlady with a sac fly Angels up 2-0.

Alex Cora said...

The wheels are coming off the wagon. Angels up 3-0 after anderson's rbi single.

Alex Cora said...

Gosh, AZ is losing. AND remember ex dodger Jason Werth? He hit 3 homeruns tonight. Ho hum. BTW that is 1 more than AJ all year.

Alex Cora said...

Lakers 62-43 against the jazz at the half.

Alex Cora said...

Tough play for martin, but overall, our defense is sort of crappy tonight.

Orel said...

Aaugh, what happened? 3-0 Angels! And Martin with his first error at third.

Alex Cora said...

Oops AZ tied up the score.

Alex Cora said...

Hey guys wake up! Only 9 more at bats!!!

Orel said...

This game seems...lackluster.

Orel said...

ANDRE SAYS START ME!

Alex Cora said...

Hey Hey, Either with a 2 run homerun!!! On the board!

Orel said...

Kuroda uncorks a wild one!

Orel said...

And another one. Jeez.

Orel said...

Scioscia's at it again! Amazing he hasn't been tossed.

Alex Cora said...

Kick him out!!

Orel said...

It does appear the Dodgers did get away with a foul call on Vlad's chopper over third. But the next pitch Russell gets a little too excited and fires a bouncer that Bennett can't handle. Kuroda finally gets pulled with the Angels leading 4-2.

Alex Cora said...

God bennett is a bad catcher.

Orel said...

The ESPN announcers say Ga-soul. The Lakers announcers say Ga-saul. Which one is correct?

Orel said...

In Bennett's defense, Russell bounced it a foot in front of home plate.

Orel said...

If the bullpen can keep the Angels' lead to two, we might—mightbe able to come back.

But Garret Anderson singles. 1st & 2nd for the Angels, still one out.

Orel said...

Every Laker starter is in double figures.

Orel said...

3rd WP of the inning lets Vlad go to third. Great.

Orel said...

D'backs beat the Tigers. Damn.

Orel said...

Andruw stares at a pitch STRAIGHT DOWN THE PIPE for strike three.

Orel said...

Loney with the sweet photographers' well basket catch!

Orel said...

Last chance, boys! Frankie blew the tie last night against the White Sox, so we know he's touchable.

Steve Sax said...

Hey, Sax is back from the old country! Let's see if I can bring us a ninth-inning come-from-behind victory.

Orel said...

Lakers letting it slip away...?

Orel said...

Martin drives one but to the deepest part of the park.

Orel said...

Welcome back, Sax! Too bad the Dodgers couldn't arrange for a better homecoming.

Orel said...

Good night and good luck.

Alex Cora said...

Crap, and AZ won too. Hey anyone want to send me to Anaheim?

Steve Sax said...

13-pt lead with 4:20 left for the Lakers, I think they have this wrapped up.

Orel said...

Did you see that shot by Kobe.

Steve Sax said...

Sorry I couldn't bring the love that AC brought to Miller Park. AC, you must be in Utah by now, can't you make it to Orange County for tomorrow's game?
