Derek Lowe (2-3, 4.43) vs Manny Parra (1-2, 5.79).
COMMENTS: Yesterday, in an effort to help Andruw Jones get his groove back, we published his match.com profile. Today, the SoSG research team did some digging at the Los Angeles County Records Archive Center and uncovered the profile's unfortunate counterpart:
Ain't love a bitch, Andruw?
As for the game, Derek Lowe goes against Manny Parra. Here is what I know about Manny Parra:
- Last year he pitched a perfect game.
- He was born exactly 25 years, to the day, after Kevin Pollak.
- He is often compared to Jack Cust and Jorge Cantu because each has a first name whose vowel-consonant pattern matches that of their last name.
Anyways, the Dodgers have now dropped 5 in a row after winning 10 of 11...as if you didn't know. In a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, SoSG is sending one of the Sons to Miller Park to cheer on the Dodgers. If you're also going to Milwaukee to check out the game (umm...why?), let us know!

You had to go to City Hall for a restraining order? Because I've got a few lying around here.
The lineup:
Pierre, LF
Jones, CF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
DeWitt, 3B
Hu, SS
Lowe, P
Wow. Not liking the top of that order.
For some reason I have a really good feeling about this game.
I expect to see a lot of video highlights on Gameday. Dodger video highlights, that is.
Hey hey hey! Jones with a 1-out bases empty single! I expect the video highlight to be posted in the next few minutes.
1-2-3 for Lowe, tied at 0 after 1
Fielder leadoff single. Bill Hall has 9 HR's?
Bill Hall is also a member of the Manny Parra, Jorge Cantu, and Jack Cust club.
I guess we're believing the conspiracy that "y" is a vowel, eh, Orel?
Coming at you from my brand new MacBook. Can you tell the difference?
Hello Erin. Your letters seem crisper and comments better-phrased.
Sorry, EK, that was meant for you, since you wrote the game thread.
Yes, I also believe this computer is making me a better person. I have no proof of this yet, but I can just feel it.
Meanwhile, Derek Lowe still sucks. When will he be reminded that he's in a contract year?
Y is totally a vowel in the word Manny.
Yes, it is. I was just kidding about the whole "and sometimes y" thing we all learn in school.
Well let me ask you this: In the word "Floyd", is Y a vowel or a consonant?
Because isn't the rule that each syllable has one and only one vowel? If so, I'd assume the 'o' in Floyd plays the vowel role. Let me know your thoughts.
I really have no idea. This new computer can't make me smarter, apparently.
Technically, the rule is apparently that each syllable has one vowel sound (like with a double vowel in a one syllable word like "look," for example). So, I guess the "oy" could be the vowel sound in the word.
**edited to correct my retardation
I was a little perplexed as well. I ask because Cliff Floyd has applied for entrance to the club and I'm not sure whether or not to let him in.
Yeah I guess you're right it's a single vowel sound, as tons of one-syllable words have multiple vowels. In this sentence alone I've used several.
Meanwhile Milwaukee goes up 3-0. Parra had a 2-run single - the frickin' pitcher!
Now I know 4 things about him.
If I learn one more thing about Parra, I have a feeling he's gonna get his own post.
Man the Dodgers went quickly in their half of the 4th.
Does anyone else feel like they are always watching James Loney ground out to second base?
Solo home run from DeWitt gets the Dodgers on the board! I love that kid!
Masochistically, I dialed up the video highlight of Parra's 2-RBI single, but it didn't work. Self-filtering highlights, yet another feature of Gameday.
4-1 Brewers. This sucks.
On the upside, Jones is 2-for-3 so far (only his 2nd multi-hit game of the season). This has raised his average 13 points to .183. Woo hoo!!
The Dodger have cut it to a 4-3 lead, thanks to a truly strange inning of squib hits and dropped pop-ups (thanks, Ryan Braun!). Bases are loaded, Parra is leaving, and Jones is coming to the plate.
Why is it only me and EK tonight?
All too predictably, Jones strikes out, and Steiner says Jones is now 1-28 with RISP. I assume that's the stat for the whole season thus far. That is one terrible job of hitting.
Epale Eric and Erin! (i made a rhyme)
just coming back home, i'm reading what i've missed...
Epale Karina! Alas, I'm going to sleep now. Too much high fructose syrup today. Hope the Dodgers pull off the comeback. Goodnight all!
I just got home too, just in time for us to get beat by another former Dodger.
Woo, Delwyn got real cocky on that check-swing ball four!
Prime Ticket has the "Psycho-Strator," where they put a camera behind Steve Lyons and he points to the field. Cute.
Andre singles! 1st & 3rd w/1 out!
Uh oh, Pierre's up.
What's not to love about Ethier?
Torre: play him as MUCH as possible...
Charlie & Steve agree: Ethier should have taken second on his deep hit.
JUAN PIERRE. WOW!
Doesn't matter now. I don't believe it, but Juan Pierre just put the Dodgers on top.
Wohoooooooooooooooooooooooo!
We should give Juan Pierre a tiny little bit of love, don't you think?
Dodgers leading 5-4! Quick, get Saito ready!
just for tonight, at least...
Uh oh, Jones is up.
Okay, gotta give big props to Pierre. Not only does he drive in the go-ahead run with a double, he just stole third.
Andruw RBI ground-out. Baby steps, Andruw.
If you're watching on TV, rewind it to look at the shot of the dugout. Concentrate on Loaiza, and notice Young rubbing Loaiza's stomach. It's the weirdest thing you'll ever see.
maybe next week, he'll hit a line beyond the infield...
True or false: EK going to bed is a good-luck charm?
if Kemp hits, i'll be very happy, so i can jog a couple of hours tomorrow (burning ice cream calories)
I was thinking about the very same thing, Orel.
Luis Maza debuted on the show!
I hope this is the beginning of a new winning streak.
JP MVP
Ha ha Damon, we won't forget you said that.
Having a Son in attendance looks like it worked.
What the hell, we're going to keep him in Milwaukee for tomorrow's game. Reckless spending by SoSG, luckily compensated by the buckets of cash we're making!
Good Christ that was hilarious.
Rob, we're serious! The revenue we make off this blog afforded us the opportunity to send AC to Milwaukee! At-game thoughts and pictures to be posted later, but let me say that I've talked with AC and the chorizo won last night.
