Lineup:

Pierre, LF
Ethier, RF
Kemp, CF
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
DeWitt, 3B
Hu, SS
Penny, P

I guess Jones probably won't find his mojo this game unless he comes off the bench.

Orel said...

Awesome job, EK! I especially like the "Body Type" field.

Alex Cora said...

hey maybe the new Game thread poster will bring some good luck to the dodgers!!!

Steve Sax said...

Speaking of people coming off the bench, what the hell is Juan Pierre doing starting in the leadoff role again, when we LOSE every time he does this???

Eric Karros said...

Let's go JP. Draw a walk, buddy.

Eric Karros said...

2-out double from Kemp. Let's increase Carlos' 6+ ERA...

Eric Karros said...

Kent does just that with RBI single. It went from 6.35 to 6.58. Dodgers up 1-0.

Orel said...

Wow, a first-inning score. Nice.

Eric Karros said...

As I watch this on Gameday, I wonder: why is it necessary to make the batters translucent?

Eric Karros said...

Hello Orel.

Orel said...

23 pitches for Villanueva in the first inning.

Erin said...

Hey guys. Missed the Dodgers scoring because I was picking up my new laptop (yay!). Good for us for getting on the board early. Now let's hope Penny doesn't have a meltdown.

Orel said...

Hi EK. Maybe in case a pitch breaks beyond the border of the batter's outline?

Orel said...

Congrats, Erin! Mac or PC? I'm guessing Mac.

Eric Karros said...

1-0 Dodger lead after half inning. Now let's hope Brad Penny is BP in initials only.

Eric Karros said...

Howdy Erin. Nice laptop.

Eric Karros said...

I guess it's so when a pitcher throws to a same-handed batter, we can see the origin of the pitch.

Orel said...

2 pitches, 1 out. I like it.

Orel said...

3 pitches, 2 outs. I like it.

Alex Cora said...

Holy crap - we scored first in a game - what next Jones hits a home run???

Orel said...

Has there ever been a baseball player named Casper?

Orel said...

8 pitches, 3 outs. Yeah!

Eric Karros said...

Why do you ask Orel?

Alex Cora said...

1-2-3 inning for Penny - we need a quality outing from him today.

Eric Karros said...

Oh, part of the translucent thing. let me look it up.

Erin said...

According to Baseball Reference, three minor leaguers with the last name, and three major leaguers, none of whom have played since 1932. One had it as his first name, the other two as their middle names.

Alex Cora said...

If you are talking about ghosts, then maybe it is Andruw Jones and his translucent batting average.

Eric Karros said...

And Penny has lowered his ERA from 4.79 to 4.69. Cy Young on the way, baby!

Erin said...

Oh, and yes, I got a Mac. I've never owned a PC. We've had Macs in my family for as long as I can remember. You know me too well already, Orel.

But I'm not on the new one yet. I have work to finish on the old one before I'm allowing myself to play with the shiny new one.

Eric Karros said...

The only Casper I remember off the top of my head was Casper Asbjornson. If memory serves, he played for the Boston and Cincinnati from 1928 to 1932 and had a career BA of 0.235.

But let me check baseball-reference.com to verify...

Eric Karros said...

No, I was mistaken. His lifetime BA was 0.237, not 0.235. I've never been good with remembering stats.

Orel said...

I guessed correctly! What are the odds?

Eric Karros said...

AC, I would be happy with Jones having a translucent batting average as long as it was over 0.200.

Orel said...

Anyone watching on TV? Did we try to turn two there?

Orel said...

Hey EK, what's Spanish for "other side"?

Erin said...

I'm watching on TV. They went straight to second, no throw to first.

Spanish: "el otro lado."

Alex Cora said...

Ball was hit too slow to Kent for the DP, Plus with Prince barreling into Hu, he probably couldn't see first around him.

Orel said...

AC, ha!

Thanks Erin. I gotta run, so I'll see you on el otro lado!

Eric Karros said...

Yes. Orel, why do you ask about the other side?

Eric Karros said...

Oh, I see.

Alex Cora said...

EK do you use MLB.com for gamecast or another site? There was just a commercial for MLB.com and they said that there are video highlights close to when the play happens. Woohoo! Penny gets out of the jam.

Eric Karros said...

Good pitching so Penny. Now get a hit.

Eric Karros said...

AC - I use mlb.com gameday. I do notice a tab saying 'Video'. I will check it out...

Alex Cora said...

Hey Pierre on 2nd after an infield hit and an error.

karina said...

that gameday video feature rocks my world!

Hello, everyone.

p.s: Erin, congratulations for your brand new mac, way to go!

Eric Karros said...

Hey AC - the video highlights work! It has one of Kent's RBI. Thanks for the heads up.

Eric Karros said...

Epale Karina.

Eric Karros said...

Yes, I have a feeling the video feature will begin to rock my world, at least in comparison to the normal Gameday

Alex Cora said...

WOOHOOO!!! Kemp with a RBI single!

Erin said...

Epale Karina, and thank you. The best news is that I paid for half of it in cash, so it is far less disturbing to look at my credit card bill right now.

Alex Cora said...

Glad to see that it works - now go beg for 20 bucks a month for mlb tv. (and no I do not work for mlb and will not get commission).

Eric Karros said...

RBI single for Kemp! I wonder when that highlight will be up.

Eric Karros said...

It is amazing how spoiled we get. 15 years ago I was happy when they started an 800 phone number you could call for recorded updates of the games updated maybe every 30 minutes. Now I complain about that Gameday has a 30-second delay.

Eric Karros said...

...not to mention translucent batters.

karina said...

i was about to point enthusiastically Dodgers are 2-0. But i'm very afraid.

Eric: awesome work with the grid.

karina said...

Erin, you know your brand new mac is worth every single cent you've paid.

Eric Karros said...

Thanks Karina! They are fun to make when I have the time.

Alex Cora said...

Was that number 888 tell me? Those were the days...

Eric Karros said...

AC, was Penny's 2nd pitch to Kendall in the dirt? On Gameday it sure looks like it.

Alex Cora said...

I agree - the macs are great - I am on my second. Plus it plays mlb tv without a hitch (again, I don't get a commission, I swear.)

karina said...

At least you had a phone number to call. I had to wait a couple of days to know the score of a game played monday, if available.

Alex Cora said...

Penny's pitch was fastball high and tight, Kendall had to duck and was a little pissed. After the K, he was staring at Penny as he walked to the dugout.

karina said...

I have the theory once you're used to a mac, there's no looking back.

Alex Cora said...

Martin is having some problems with the stolen bases. That throw was on the other side of the base.

karina said...

I hope there is not a brawl since i can't watch it. I'm watching Seattle-Texas on the tv, same pitching match as last week. let's see what happens there.

Eric Karros said...

Wait a couple days for the result? Man that must have sucked.

Alex Cora said...

If anyone likes comics and mac / pc, you should check out the youtube marvel / dc parody. Pretty funny.

Alex Cora said...

Damn, Steroid boy with the RBI single.

Eric Karros said...

And I thought espn.com Gamecast's 1-day delay was bad...

Alex Cora said...

Brewers announcers bagging on Pierre's weak ass arm too.

Eric Karros said...

Kemp's RBI single is now up on video. Man, they are pretty quick, but in a few years I'll probably be upset they don't have the video up before the play happens.

Erin said...

Yeah, I've been using Macs for as long as I can remember, and though I know how to use a PC, I would never choose one.

This new one is definitely worth every penny, as are the two other new ones I've purchased in the last year (one for my girlfriend, and a desktop for our office). We should be featured in the dang commercials. Much like AC does not work for MLB.tv, though, I do not work for Apple. Just an enthusiastic consumer.

And actually, access to MLB.tv is exactly the reason I had to get a new computer. My current one, almost four years old, is just dying when it comes to playing video. I'll be missing my Extra Innings package in Chicago, so I had to do something.

Whew. Long post.

karina said...

It happened when the Dodgers were playing on the west coast. It did. Thanks for the technology!

Alex Cora said...

Or jacked into your head a la the Matrix.

Eric Karros said...

That post probably took you almost 2 seconds to write, huh Erin?

So are all 3 of you (Karina, AC, Erin) Mac people?

Alex Cora said...

Woohoo! Loney with a TRIPLE!!!! Show off the SPEED!

Eric Karros said...

Nice work Loney. I eagerly await the video.

Alex Cora said...

Yes Macbook - 2 years old.

Alex Cora said...

RBI by Martin!!! Dodgers 3-0 Where's the video highlight?

karina said...

Macs are easier to use. My brother and i use macs (i converted him actually) and my mom (who's very technology challenged) learned very easily so she could talk to my other brother that lives abroad.

Alex Cora said...

Would be nice if mlb would let you embed the video into blogs.

Alex Cora said...

Karina - exactly why I bought my mom a mac - now she is using the video camera like a pro!

karina said...

I love the baby blue...why can't they all play together every night?

i want to see that Loney triple and Martin single RIGHT NOW

Alex Cora said...

Bloop basehit by DeWitt, just stuck his bat out.

Erin said...

Yeah, Macs just seem more intuitive and user-friendly. And you don't need virus protection, and they rarely, if ever, crash (mine hasn't crashed in almost four years I've owned it).

Alex Cora said...

Hu is now wearing an ankle guard after fouling off the last one.

Eric Karros said...

Maybe I'll go buy a Mac tomorrow.

Alex Cora said...

Get it with the mlbtv package.

karina said...

If it is useful, remember every single Mac vs PC commercial, it's all true.

I don't work for Apple, either.

Eric Karros said...

I just purchased a Mac online (I'm very prone to suggestion).

Eric Karros said...

Martin's RBI hit is now posted.

Erin said...

That was fast, EK. Which one did you get?

Eric Karros said...

Whatever the most expensive one was. I think I bought 2. I'm not sure.

Eric Karros said...

Do you guys prefer Coke or Pepsi?

Erin said...

Pepsi, please.

As long as we're weighing in, I also believe the chicken came first.

Alex Cora said...

Coke, it gives you more of a high, snorting it is good, but sometimes freebasing is the way to go...oh, you meant the drink...uh...hmm...

Alex Cora said...

EK: give me a million bucks.

karina said...

No sodas for me, but if i'm weak, i'll choose 7up light (i hate pepsi, btw)

Eric Karros said...

AC, you are getting your blogs confused. This is SoSG, not www.sonsofstevehowe.com

Alex Cora said...

100!!!

Eric Karros said...

I prefer 7-Up to Coke or Pepsi too, but mainly cuz I try to avoid caffeine. Taste-wise I like both Coke and Pepsi over 7-Up.

Alex Cora said...

EK: nice.

karina said...

A man of strong taste.

Erin said...

Pepsi is the best, and though I've had two in the last two days, prior to that I hadn't had one for four months. I'm going cold turkey again. No one needs to drink high fructose corn syrup like that.

Eric Karros said...

Good work, AC. But 200 is the magic post.

karina said...

why do you avoid caffeine?

Eric Karros said...

Oh that's right Erin. You gave it up...have your boycott of ice cream continuing successfully as well?

Eric Karros said...

Karina - because it gives me trouble falling asleep.

Alex Cora said...

EK: How's Beltre doing today?

karina said...

I replace sodas with flavored water, the bad thing about that water is the sodium.

High fructose corn syrup is the devil!

Alex Cora said...

Damn, Brewers up.= 4-3

Eric Karros said...

AC, he is currently 1-for-2 vs the Rangers. Why do you ask?

karina said...

Beltre 2-1, a single.

karina said...

He's batting right now, 0-1

Eric Karros said...

Crap, suddenly down 5-3. Crap. CRAP. CRAP.

karina said...

Sabermetricians don't like stolen bases. I still think they are a pretty valuable and useful part of the game and it's very fun to watch.

Erin said...

High fructose corn syrup is definitely the devil. Avoid it at all costs.

EK, I've had ice cream maybe three times since December, which is very good for me. I've had half a milkshake twice at Dodger Stadium (since Ruby's opened there) and one trip to Baskin Robbins. Considering I used to go to BR nearly every night, this is quite an improvement. And the good news is, I don't really crave it anymore.

Eric Karros said...

Karina, I am starting to replace sodas with flavored water too. If not the devil, high fructose syrup is at least a minor demon.

Erin said...

In case you forgot...

GO SPURS GO!!!

karina said...

Because it is adictive, the more you consume it, the more you crave it, you get tired faster after a rush of energy and it's very bad when you have a family history of diabetes.

It's only recommendable in the case of very extreme sadness and despair.

Erin said...

I haven't seen it yet, but a friend of mine told me about a documentary that's about corn production and consumption in the United States. She said it's really good. It's called "King of Corn."

http://www.kingcorn.net/

karina said...

way to go, Eric!

Eric Karros said...

Well then if the Dodgers lose again today, it'll be soda for everyone

Orel said...

I'm back! In for a Penny, in for a pounding, I see.

Erin said...

Orel, that may be one of the most clever things I've read recently. Seriously.

karina said...

I've heard about that documentary. Though, corn is not bad as it seems, you'd have to eat it moderately at the right time.

how about cachapas, Eric?

Orel said...

Is high-fructose corn syrup the new cocaine?

Orel said...

Thanks, Erin. I have to work it into a headline sometime.

Alex Cora said...

Just like to keep tabs on Ex-dodgers.

karina said...

Indeed Erin, that was very clever of Orel.

Eric Karros said...

Orel, for LA that's not a bad commute.

Somehow the conversation has gone from Macs to high fructose syrup.

Orel said...

Brings new meaning to "sweet talk."

karina said...

...while the Dodgers blowed a 3 run lead

karina said...

i meant, BLEW

Orel said...

To be fair, I think the Dodgers biggest lead was 2.

Orel said...

I guess Miller Park doesn't have a radar gun.

karina said...

Right, Orel.

Orel said...

Hardy doubles. Like Furcal, Hu has learned to range into left field whenever Pierre fields a hit.

Orel said...

Yhency in the bullpen.

Erin said...

The Red Sox, meanwhile, are currently trying to come back from their own 5-3 deficit, and are now down only 5-4 in the eighth, with two on and one out.

Orel said...

Nice block by Russell!

Orel said...

Looks bad for the Orioles....

Orel said...

Kendall tagged it but right at Ethier. On to the 6th.

Eric Karros said...

Ok, we have three innings to score 2 runs, though I would prefer 3. Or 6.

Orel said...

Oops, 7th.

Eric Karros said...

Orel, you aren't a Mac person, are you? I don't think so...

Erin said...

The Orioles have wriggled out of jams in two innings now. In the sixth or seventh, the Sox loaded the bases with nobody out, but Ramirez grounded into a double play and Lowell flied out.

With two on and one out, they couldn't push across that second run, so the score remains 5-4. One more inning to get it done.

Alex Cora said...

15 Earned runs by Penny in last 2 starts according to the brewers announcers. that sucks.

Alex Cora said...

Slappy with a slap to braun 2 quick outs.

Alex Cora said...

Wow backwards K for Ethier...this is looking bad...

Eric Karros said...

Things have gotten so bad I'm starting to quote Yoda.

karina said...

If the Dodgers lose again tonight:

1) Would you feel intense sadness and despair?

If the answer is yes,

2) What kind of high corn fructose syrup product you will consume?

Alex Cora said...

Like the looks of Wade.

Alex Cora said...

opps, spoke too soon. Wade gives up a triple.

Alex Cora said...

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you (Andruw Jones).

Alex Cora said...

Yes, much sadness - screw it - I will eat that whole pint of ice cream - go for the real sugar.

Eric Karros said...

Karina:
1) yes
2) probably a Diet Coke Plus tomorrow at lunch (it has vitamins and nutrients!)

karina said...

That'd be a nice summary for the T.J. simmers article on Andruw Jones.

Eric Karros said...

That...is why you fail

-Yoda, 1980

karina said...

Interesting choice by both of you.

How does the Diet Coke Plus taste?

Eric Karros said...

Trivia question: What is Yoda's last name?

Eric Karros said...

Diet Coke Plus tastes the same as regular Coke to me, but I have insensitive taste buds when it come to beverages.

Eric Karros said...

Crap, one more inning to score 2 runs.

Eric Karros said...

Karina, are you going to have high fructose syrup after the game?

Alex Cora said...

Yoda on Pierre, or Andruw Jones for that matter: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not

Alex Cora said...

Gagne is warming up!!!!

Erin said...

Oh dear lord. I feel bad for you if you just missed that play from Hu. Holy cow. He's so little, but he jumped so high!

karina said...

Yoda Minch

Alex Cora said...

Hu UP THE LADDER!!! Nice hops for the asian kid.

karina said...

Yes, 7up light for me.

Eric Karros said...

Erin, that sounds more like a quote about Yoda, not from him.

Eric Karros said...

Minch? Good guess, but no...Yoda's last name is 'McDaniel'.

Eric Karros said...

I think the mlb.com Gameday only posts videos of scoring plays. I'd like to see that catch from Hu.

karina said...

Gagne broke my heart so hard, i think i might get more sugar than that.

It's like losing a person you loved so much, being heart broken for his failures, to discover he's a jerk.

Alex Cora said...

Yoda on Jones again: Grave danger you are in. Impatient you are (at the plate).

karina said...

I didn't know Yoda was irish, welsh, scottish or something like that...

Alex Cora said...

Hey Mota is getting loose the bullpen - which Ex dodger is going to shut us down?

Erin said...

I can't tell you how badly I want to see the Dodgers pummel Eric Gagne.

Alex Cora said...

Karina: Broke your heart because he left the dodgers or because he took steroids or both.

Erin said...

Wasn't it just two days ago that there was a big story about how Gagne wasn't going to pitch in the ninth for a while?

Alex Cora said...

I think that was Xavier McDaniel - forward for the Lakers.

karina said...

both of the reasons you listed, being the main reason he took steroids on those amazing seasons.

I could add the fact he spent a lot of the time on the DL.

Alex Cora said...

Martin with the Rally single...

Alex Cora said...

Hmm, Dewitt seemed overpowered by Gagne. Lucky it wasn't a DP.

Erin said...

Oh, and of course it will all come down to Jones.

Alex Cora said...

Uh, oh Jones is on Deck....Sweeney better get this doneright here

Alex Cora said...

Crap - Yoda Jones is at the plate.

Alex Cora said...

Fear

Alex Cora said...

Anger (strike)

Alex Cora said...

Hate (Strike 2)

karina said...

Passed Ball!

Alex Cora said...

Wait for it....

Alex Cora said...

OHHHHH, walk...

Erin said...

I think I had more faith in Jones than I do in Juan Pierre.

Erin said...

See? First pitch swinging, and he pops it up. Dope.

karina said...

On the Strike Zone Channel, the narrator says Juan Pierre is the "Man of the Clutch"

I'm amazed how these people gat paid to talk about baseball.

Alex Cora said...

Torre should pinch hit for Pierre - then double switch with Jones to play center.

Alex Cora said...

Crap - well there it is ....

karina said...

Erin, i'll go and get all the ice cream on the fridge. I don't care about my diet.

Alex Cora said...

Suffering.
