Game 52 Thread: May 28 @ Cubs, 5p

Derek Lowe (2-5, 5.03) vs. Carlos Zambrano (7-1, 2.47).

COMMENTS: Hard to muster enthusiasm for today's game. Although Lowe improved in his last outing against the Cardinals, we're facing Carlos "Big Z" Zambrano, who might be able to single-handedly beat the Dodgers with his pitching and hitting. ("Smells like a sweep," says SoSG commenter Karina.) The Dodgers are frustratingly lacking in situational hitting, but through no fault of Erin from Beantown West and our own Alex Cora, both again braving the brutal Chicago wind chill to provide the Dodgers some positive blogger karma. Stay warm, kids!

Aisle 123 row 4 seats 1-4 if you want to sit with a couple of dodger fans!!!

Are any of you going to be in New York for their series against the Dodgers? I will.

Orel said...

Four seats but only a couple of Dodger fans? No fraternizing with the enemy!

Maza, 2B
Ethier, RF
Martin, C
Loney, 1B

DeWitt, 3B

Lowe, P

Kent sits again. Torre has faith in Maza.

Yes, sitting with the enemy - that should be a movie.

Karina, exactly what does a sweep smell like?

Eric Karros said...

That picture kinda creeps me out.

Everyone seems to agree that it is warmer tonight, but I am still cold. If it looks like another lackluster performance from our boys tonight, I'll be gone by the seventh. Maybe after the stretch. I think I've put in my time the last two days.

Meanwhile, I have a perfect view of AC's seats, so I'll be saying hello to him whenever he gets here.

Orel said...

Erin, let us know if you smell a sweep. Or garlic fries.

Erin said...

Right now, I smell AC. And I see him, too. But someone should call him and tell him there's no way the ushers will let me get close to him. Or tell him to look about 100 feet directly to his left to the first row of the 200 section. That's where I currently sit, giving him the staredown in the hopes that he'll look over here.

Eric Karros said...

Maybe we should tell AC to try some deodorant as well.

karina said...

"smells like a sweep" you could explain it as:

synesthesia: "is a neurologically-based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway"

The possibility of a sweep made me describe it as an smell, though it is actually an action, but i guess the right word is:

Metaphor: language that directly compares seemingly unrelated subjects.

=)

King James made contact. *Sigh* baby steps, baby steps...

"a neurologically-based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway"

That's what I was going to say!

Eric Karros said...

I've been known to be called a neurologically-based phenomenon

Orel said...

Don't you mean "neurotically-based phenomenon"?

Ball four and Zambrano has walked in the first run. What's the deal with Zambrano? Somebody told me that this guy was good. They must've been pulling my leg.

The Cubs look like they're freezing in the dugout. You know what cubs do when it's cold? They go into hibernation and aren't productive.

I'll be popping in and out,

I guess maybe that's what they're saying, I don't listen that carefully.

Big Z gives up the rancho ardiendo walk, Dodgers up 1-0.

karina said...

Eric, the Z letter that creeps you out, it's part of an alphabet designed by the famous art deco artist/designer Erte (i think that's the way it's spelled, i'm not sure).

i had to learn that at college.

Eric Karros said...

Thanks Karina. You know, I didn't even realize it was a Z - I was going to ask Orel what the connection was. Now it makes more sense.

Go Alex and Erin! We should plan a Dodgers Bloggers road trip sometime later this summer...maybe Arizona? Alex (from dodgerfan.net) lives out that way and I try and get out there every couple months.

If I'm back in town, I would love to go to Arizona with you guys, though I'm not a fan of their ballpark.

I just met two of Lowe's cousins in the bathroom. How weird is that? They are sitting near AC, and told me to come sit with them. They're kind of close to me, but
in the next section down, and I've already told you how crazy the ushers are here. So I guess I'm staying put.

In three of the six innings now, the Dodgers have gotten the leadoff guy on, only to have the next guy ground into a DP. Boo.

Steve Sax said...

Wow, we've only scored one run. Think that will hold up? Case of deja vu?

Erin said...

Sorry guys. The phone is being finicky, so just delete any double posts, please.

Orel said...

Hey Chris, another good idea!

Erin, done.

Is this a—gasp!—pitching duel?

Erin said...

Is it really wise to key Hu bat in this situation?

Eric Karros said...

Wow, we've only scored one run. Think that will hold up? Case of deja vu?

Orel said...

Off to battle traffic. Big Z's at 103 pitches!

Steve Sax said...

Erin, send me your seat and I'll text AC. He's looking for you.

Erin said...

Sax, aisle 219, row 1. Wearing a big black jacket and a Dodgers hat.

Steve Sax said...

Maza with the DP! Lowe through seven!

If there's anyone who knows a lack of run support, it's Lowe.

Eric Karros said...

Broxton warming up...not sure what to think

Eric Karros said...

The Cubs have the Dodgers right where they want 'em: with the bases loaded.

Steve Sax said...

Ethier's on second, Martin's on first, and Loney gets a gift to load the bases. Kemp called strike three!!! Crap.

Eric Karros said...

Ok folks I gotta go...hope they hold 'em.

Dodgers said...

If Broxton comes in, this game is over.

What kind of phone do you have, Erin? I'm thinking of getting the Moto Q9M with Verizon. I'm still looking on the market, though.

The Dodgers are still winning - but for how long? Zambrano just got a nice strikeout and it looks like he's in his zone.

Don't pitchers usually reserve celebrating for when they're winning.

Steve Sax said...

I hear you EK. Broxton gives me the feeling of another choke job, for some reason.

Steve Sax said...

Lowe outpitched Zambrano; it's going to be a pity when he doesn't get the win.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

Nice swing. Felt the breeze from here.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

The whole Deshields family is watching this game together, including Dog DeShields. We're all happy about Broxton getting them to swing through every pitch.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

eight innings of one run ball. Nobody deserves a hard luck loss better than Zambrano.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

Blake's on my fantasy team. Need some OBP help here.

Steve Sax said...

Wow, I stand corrected, Brox Ks the side.

I am going to be more negative more often.

Speaking of negative, "Lasorda Wine"? Is this really necessary? C'mon Tommy, you're better than this.

Steve Sax said...

Yay, Mark Sweeney brings his 0-for-15 streak to the plate!

karina said...

I almost got a heart attack...

karina said...

We've been treated to three great outings from the starters in a row...they really need to win...specially when they're going to New York and Santana.

karina said...

KIng James showed some glove over there, but Saito never touched the base, crap!

karina said...

Cedeno is a great runner...

karina said...

Free baseball for Erin and Alex. It really sucks Derek Lowe can't win this game

karina said...

or the Dodgers, good night...

Steve Sax said...

I am going to go get drunk. We suck.

At least the snakes are losing, 10-0 no less, to the lowly Giants.

Orel said...

Was that painful? Yes. Am I going to overreact? Yes.
