Game 43 Thread: May 19 @ Angels, 6.05p

Dodgers start Mark Hendrickson, LHP (2-0, 2.61) vs. Jered Weaver, RHP (2-3, 3.62).

Dodgers: 25-17 (1st place NL West, 2.0 GA, L1)
Angels: 25-18 (1st place AL West, 3.0 GA, W3)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Hendrickson had a rough fourth inning in his outing Sunday afternoon, allowing four runs in the frame, including a three-run shot by Ken Griffey Jr. Besides the rough fourth, Hendrickson was effective, yielding five runs (four earned) on eight hits while striking out three over 5 2/3 innings. Hendrickson lost his only start against the Angels last season, posting a 1.80 ERA.

Angels: Weaver was back on top of his game in Texas on Monday, his seven innings marred only by a Hank Blalock homer. Free and easy in his delivery and consistent with his location, he gave up six hits and walked two, striking out five. After surrendering eight earned runs in 7 2/3 innings in his first two starts of the season, Weaver has yielded five earned runs in 24 2/3 innings in his past four outings. He's making his first career appearance against the Dodgers.

COMMENTS:

  • Brad Penny's amazing run had to end sometime, and it ended with an unceremonious thud with the Dodgers making three errors and losing by eight runs. The Dodgers hope another amazing run continues, with Lurch matching up against the celebrated Jered Weaver. A lot will have to go right for the Dodgers to win, though—their track record against talented young pitchers is pretty miserable.

5-2 Angels. Lurch has thrown 65 pitches in 5.1 innings and he's toast.

WHY IS LURCH STILL IN

Maybe I'm just basking in the afterglow of losing to the Angels, but this does not feel like a team that has won 5 of its past 7 games.

sigh, we suck

Hey, but it looks like almost everyone else lost in the NL West. The AL's dominance continues...
