The Red Sox' impressive 9th inning comeback today may have reminded some of the Dodgers' glorious 4+1 game. However, if you turn the clock a bit further back - 6,109 days back, to be exact - you will come across the Dodgers' less glorious "8 minus 9" game. That's right - build an 8-run lead heading into the 9th; proceed to give up 9 runs:
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | R | H | E | |
Phillies | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 9 | 12 | 11 | 3 |
Dodgers | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 8 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 11 | 15 | 4 |
Major culprits of the meltdown were Jose Offerman (2 errors), Mike Scioscia (2 errors), Tim Crews (0 innings pitched, 3 earned runs allowed), and rookie Dave Walsh (0.1 inning pitched, 6 runs allowed).
Don't mean to bring anybody down by evoking such a painful memory, especially since the Dodgers had a nice comeback win of their own today. Not sure why I did, though it may be because I just saw 28 Weeks Later and figure we're all doomed anyways. Come to think of it, I hope my $10 doesn't cause another come-from-ahead Dodger loss.
