Ticket Sales Photo Falls Somewhat Short Of Inspirational

Screenshot from the Washington Nationals' website on April 19, 2010. Yeah, that looks like a real run on the ticket booths! Better get out there, stat.

Or perhaps some Nationals fans, in anticipation of the Dodgers' arrival this weekend, assume that the All You Can Eat Buffet is coming as well? (I know, too easy.)

Oh, but you should see the lines on T-shirt Tuesdays at Nationals Park.

Steve Sax said...

No S sized shirts, I assume.

I've got my tickets for the games this weekend in DC. There is no "All you can eat" section or Dodger Dogs, but there are Ben's Chili Bowl Half Smokes (it's a really big chili dog) that I highly recommend.

I have to say the food selection at Nats Park is top notch.

Steve Sax said...

Better than Boog's BBQ?

LLCoolL said...

I usually go Five Guys, but maybe I'll try Ben's this weekend.

Five Guy's is insanely good, as are the half smokes. Went to a three game series vs the Cubs there last year and highly recommend buying $5 tix and sitting where ever you please.

Dusty Baker said...

Boog's is solid, no doubt. But the half smoke at Nats...all the hype is true.

Steve Sax said...

Dusty, since you're going to Saturday's game (right?!?!), bring me back one please.

(Just kidding.)

Dusty Baker said...

No, dammit, since I had to go through County bureaucracy to get the ticket, and they got a rock bottom price, it was locked in and I would have to be a couple hun out of pocket to change it. My bad for not checking the sched more closely before making the reservation. Mrs. Dusty was even taunting me over my stupidity.

Tickets purchased for Saturday. Hope the rain holds off and Kershaw can repeat his last performance.

Apparently yesterday's game was an all-time franchise low for attendance (assuming they aren't counting their time in Montreal).

I can't believe you guys are going nuts over Five Guys, when all of my California buddies who've moved out to D.C. (myself included) talk about how much they miss In-N-Out and claim that it's vastly superior.

I am in the same boat, RE Five Guys. It's just a hamburger. I've never understood the insanity over them, or why they are spreading like swine flu over the east coast (are they the next Krispy Kreme, doomed to over-expansion failure?)

For those who have been to both, how does stadium Bens compare to real Bens?

Steve Sax said...

Greg Finley 10:34a: Can we do a trade-by-mail, burger for burger?

Greg Finley said...

I'd say that stadium Ben's and real Ben's are identical in terms of food, but real Ben's is more about the history. I love the snarky signs they have on pieces of printer paper, like the one that says you only eat free if you're Bill Cosby or Obama.

LLCoolL said...

Oh, it's no In-n-Out. But for D.C. it's pretty good. I think their fries are definitely better than In-n-Out and they offer a better selection of toppings, but they overcook their meat.

Greg Finley said...

Also, do not even get me started on East Coast Mexican food. No one's ever heard of "carne asada" here.

Steve Sax said...

@Fred's Brim 10:51a: If stadium Ben's is better, can I consider you converted?

Fred's Brim said...

@Sax
BOOOOOOOOOOO
so terrible!

i love it :)

LLCoolL said...

I'm flying out to San Jose for work tonight so I'll be having In-N-Out for dinner.

LLCoolL said...

@Greg. Amen, brutha.

If any of you are going to the games in D.C. and want to meet up, drop me a line at gregory.finley@gmail.com.

Steve Sax said...

@Fred's Brim 10:59a: wait until you see the GT this afternoon. My god, the stretch for a pun is downright embarrassing.

Steve Sax said...

@Greg, if you go to the Dodgers' series, send us some pix, please!

Greg Finley said...

@Sax I'll send 'em in the mail, with the burger. :)

Fred's Brim said...

@Sax - I don't know if my pun-y brain will be able to keep up

Greg Finley said...

Yeah, don't make us think too hard after yesterday's puzzle.

Fred's Brim said...

The Phils, Orioles and Nats have only one weekend homestand in common, June 4-6, vs the Padres, Red Sox and Reds respectively. I am seriously thinking about going for the triple crown (of seeing teams I don't really like in stadiums I do like)

All the East Coasters who haven't experienced In N Out are all knee-trembling over 5G. While it's decent, it just doesn't compare to INO. And LL nailed it - 5G overcooks their meat. To me, it's far more hype than it is the perfect burger.

I've been to Ben's Chili Bowl several times. Love this history, but in all honesty I think it, too, doesn't live up to the hype. My old boss lives on the other side of the block from Ben's so we go on a somewhat regular basis. I remember going back in the day when that area of town was not a place to be, and now it's far on its way to being perfectly gentrified.

There are at least two Five Guys out here (Ten Guys?). The closest to me is Cerritos, but that's still a bit of a drive. I've been wanting to try it, though.

Steve Sax said...

Josh, I just went to the 5G website and it didn't say any locations were near me...

Steve Sax said...

I have to say, (more than five) guys, I am laughing that I took a screenshot of a robust guy at a Nationals ticket booth, and we've bounced all over the place into 30+ comments detailing puns, chili, hamburgers, and baseball roadtrips.

I'm doing screenshots more often.

Josh S. said...

And I'm doing shots more often.

Sax: The two locations are in Carson and Cerritos. I had to expand the search radius to 25 miles to make them show up.

Hmmm...I guess the two are about equidistant from me.

Dusty Baker said...

Someone say shots?

Fred's Brim said...

*in a Hans Moleman voice*
I was saying burger shots...

Steve Sax said...

mini sirloin burger shots?

Dusty Baker said...

Sometimes when I go to these nouveau restaurants they have fancy sliders as appetizers, complete with some sort of froo-froo rosemary chipotle mayonnaise. I usually order them, to be sure, but in my mind I'm picturing them as Mini Sirloin Burgers obtained at the drive-through.
