Chad Billingsley (1-0, 5.73) vs. Homer Bailey (0-1, 6.97).
COMMENTS: We don't much like this Homer Bailey fellow. First, in July of last year, he ceded the game to the Dodgers yet plunked Manny Ramirez in the hand with a fastball, which many believe led to Manny's diminished output in the second half of the year. Bailey also ended up on the better end of a Bills-Bails head-to-head matchup in late August out at the Great American Ballpark. So is tonight the night (afternoon?) when we can beat ol' Bailey? (Add another year in purgatory for that one, I know.)
The good news: The second-place Dodgers have now won two series in a row and sent the division-leading Giants away with their tails between their legs. The bad news: the Dodgers haven't won a road series all year, while the Reds have a penchant for the dramatics (all five of the Reds' wins have come in their final at bat). In those rare occasions when they win, that is; the Reds are currently riding a five-game losing streak (tied with the Snakes and Red Sox for the longest active losing streak in MLB). At least the Reds have Hayley Watson, the Slash of Cincinnati, singing the national anthem today. Get fired up, Reds fans.

Way to take a pitch, James.
Oh, you didn't.
Okay, I need a beer.
:(
geez, here it goes again
Long-term anyway...
i've run out of swears
Bills' ERA has jumped by a point
Homer's is up as well
@Neeebs that sounds awesome. The next time I am out there, I will make sure to get up there!
I'd rather have chick hearn's statue up on the mound right now.
there's #7
he hit that ball a mile in the air
I can't wait to hear DodgerTalk today. Take a drink when someone says trade Billingsley!
Chad's getting better. He's recording outs at the same time he's letting in runs.
well theres another run, at least he is getting outs too.
trade him for homer bailey
Fucking open-face fuck sandwich with extra fuck. If we any competent arm anywhere else in the system, I'd say send Chad down to ABQ to get it out of his system.
11% on fangraphs after 3 innings. Kinda sad.
I'm becoming more and more certain that Bills will be pimped as we near the trade deadline.
haha, Kareem with a dodgers cap on at the Chick statue unveiling.
@David 5:11p: We had 1253 last year in this playoff thread. I think in the regular season we topped 800, but I'll have to go check the records.
He is severely damaging his trade value if thats the case.
If an extended thread is what you want, then it's an extended thread you'll get!
Remember that one Simpsons episode where Homer said "d'oh"? What was it about again?
Re: Fangraphs--what's sad is we were at 79% at the end of the first, and now it's 11%
Sax said: "We should be trying hypnosis or breathing exercises or something."
For Chad, or for ourselves?
@SteveSax, wow, quite a lot of comments. Thanks.
I think there were some pretty incredible long threads when the 100ss
was going down. Not that I remember that little escapade with fondness, though.
Fangraphs says 10% now.
Can we trade Bills to the Reds for that Edinson fellow?
DEWITT SPEED!!
nice hustle, Blake!
Dustygraphs says 100% chance of our pitching sucking hind tit.
Nice job, DeWitt. A few dozen more of those and we should have the game in the bag.
haha, DB said tit.
Is Bills gonna hit for himself?
the great part about this time of year is that the lakers are on in 2 hours and hopefully that will ease my pain
bills already out?
Can we see Link then?
Heh. "Johnson pops it up."
Goodnight, sweet Chad.
Reed Johnson bats for Bills.
3 IP for Chad. 7 Runs.
what the hell was up with the camera there? Billingsley take over as the camera man?
Is Johnson already out? Man, Gameday is slooooow
6 innings of bullpen coming up. Yay.
Down to 8%.
Don't worry guys, Monasterios has got this
David - Probably just five.
What the hell was Bills doing? We got ya three runs buddy!!!!
Just when you thought a 5.73 ERA couldn't get any worse, it just did. 7.07 ERA.
Rrrrrramon
Ra Ortiz is in. Will the DFA-o-meter tilt towards his way?
Rotation = Terrible
Bullpen = Terrible
Fielding = Terrible
Bench = Terrible
Man, this would be the season that the Dodgers are finally able to hit a ton.
so does Bills take fat ortiz place on the DFA-O-Meter?
ERA's are very close.
Thanks, Chad. Sit on that turd for the next 4 days
Shit, lesser satan on instead.
The bench is actually pretty solid.
@MLASF...oh, right. Heh.
Just trying to be optimistic...
Ex-Angel Ramon Ortiz
We're the old Texas Rangers.
ortiz picking up where bills left off
I'm praying for six bullpen innings, David.
I'm going to blame that fucking Micky statue for this poop of a baseball game.
Gentlemen, it is officially gin and tonic season, and I for one do't think it could have arrived any sooner.
nice ramon, start off with a single to the pitcher.
hold my tonic Dusty
So far our pitching staff has given us 4 good starts, 3 okay ones, and 6 crappy ones.
@DB
Good point. I think I've got some Hendrick's stashed somewhere in the House of Customer. I may need to consult the liquor cabinet when I get home.
Remember last year when the bullpen and defense were assets?
Who in their right mind would give up much for Bills right now?
Why can't anyone properly backup a steal attempt?
alright im just going to mute the TV and play Yakkity Sax over it.
we give away so many bases.
errors, walks, hbps. good thing our pitchers don't give up many hits....
Saxy, i predict a dramatic slowing in the comment rate
Torre's going to need something stronger than green tea tonight.
This is sad.
Well that didn't take long.
I didn't even have time to catch up on comments before it became 9-3.
Someone get me a fucking hot dog.
Wow. Well, I for one hope that Ortiz pitches the rest of this hideous game, falling on his sword for the team before being DFA'd forever.
9-3? criminy
@Neebs
The ripper is awesome. A great take on the classic hot dog.
Ramons era was so close to going lower than BIlls'
No more hope.
One gin and tonic, hold the tonic, coming up for HLACK.
3%!!!
As long as the game is lost, might as well use all our crappy arms and save the good ones for tomorrow.
I remember when the Dodgers had good pitching
Come to think of it, The Liquor Cabinet is a great collective name for all the alkies around that haunt this place. I hereby submit my qualifications for Secretary of Gin.
Fisher PG
Bryant SG
Artest SF
Gasol PF
Bynum C
In the words of a poster on McCovey Chronicles last night, Ra Ortiz just shit on his own face.
gin might be too weak. i think i need a flaming moe
I remember when we use to have the laughers against the Pirates and Reds.
At least we get to see some nice defense, by the Reds.
I'd like to be Ambassador to the Court of St. Martinis
So how 'bout those Lakers? Kings? Galaxy?
Does Fangraphs use decimals for odds?
I'm more disappointed that we're not making a comeback against Homer Bailey...
Speaker of the Public House.
Well, at least a team that I hate lost the ECL Match today.
On the other hand, I team that I hate also won the ECL Match today.
Hey, Cory Hart just homered for my fantasy team!
Homer is actually capable of doing this. He did it to us last year and was pretty good down the stretch of last year.
A 6 run hole is a lot to ask of from any team.
I'm just going to talk about random things until the Dodgers score a run.
Dancing with the Stars.
Pineapple juice.
Franklin Gutierrez
@MLASF
I would except that's what I do every day anyway.
Ortiz with a nice even 8.00 ERA now.
I voted for Chastity Bono.
Heading home now. I will drive by Chevez Ravine and give the front office the full Milton Bradley on the way.
@MLASF...yes, they do use decimals. We're currently at 1.7%
Im holding out hope that tonight is the night when i see Loney pitch.
can we exchange stultz for billingsley?
He just ruined my bday...
Happy Birthday!
Marshmellows.
Stupid sexy Flanders.
Welcome to the 20th century, George.
Gotta love the Reds poll on whether they would want Manny on their team.
It must feel good to reject someone who had no interest in you.
Loney forgot what he was supposed to do there.
If Ramirez gets driven in, maybe the Dodgers can get back up to 2% odds.
Speaking of Stults, did anyone else ever pick him up?
Paul, what about bills? will they take him?
Stults was sold to the hiroshima carp.
There's a rocket in my pocket.
@NicJ, oh yeah, forgot about that.
Casey,
Yes, he's in Japan (Hiroshima, I believe).
You're probably thinking Repko, though.
what does old school Kobe mean? that was a 24 jersey.
Sweet, we got a run.
Haha, did that hit Gomes in the dome?
Hey, we scored a run! I don't have to talk gibberish anymore!
only down by a grand slam + 1
9-4!
get him in, Blake
No more random talk!
thanks, Blake!
9-5! dewitt!
I see a big dip forming on fangraphs.
Another run! By george, there's a vague sense of hope!
Ugh, False Hope Rally.
Do the Reds have any kind of bullpen, though? Maybe once Bailey is knocked out, the Dodgers stand a marginal chance.
its probably just gas.
a poke here and we're right back in it
well, our pen is probably just as bad. Or worse.
Either that or I'm really plastered.
Home run here cuts the lead to just a lone run!
Keep the faith! Our odds have quadrupled on fangraphs!
You won't have Homer to kick around any more.
We're into the pen!
keep it going guys
g'bye Homer
Nice to see DeWitt having a good game, btw.
GA baybee!
up to 4%, David?
somebody let their little kid onto the field, and now he's pitching!
GA seems to be making good contact
cmon Raffy - a double down the 1st base line?
Actually, it's up to 11%...wait, Anderson's out. Now it probably is 4%.
Woah! A screwball!
Effing screwballs.
wack
come on Raffy!
Why couldn't Raffy hit that liner fair?
2-ball screwball!
Linkage
Link in to save Zeldadgers.
let's get 3 innings out of Link and MonoStereros
glasses? Eh.
Glee is the worst show on television!
nice sinker
Link wears glasses? Boy that's old school.
yeah, i noticed that. Keep the ball low and throw strikes, i like that.
9-5. Should have been more, but I'll take it.
Let's see if Link can be a Zelda-like Legend.
woah 1-2-3 inning!
Sax needs the Ocarina of time.
Any missing link references yet?
I'm driving.
I don't like that pitching competence surprises me now.
If he makes it big, will there be a SoSG Link?
What the Hell, the heat only have 33 points at the half.
MMMMMM, SoSG link.
Even my puns are fueling my hot dog craving.
Pinch grand slam? does eric collins even watch the games?
damn, ump showing up manny.
this game is still winnable, if we can get some nads here and sack up
Now that we have the scroll to the bottom problem licked, I need a refresh button that doesn't require me to go back to the top.
Come on, Loney. Aren't you and your .309 average due for a hit (0-for-2) right about now (the funk soul brother)
its a road game, that's where Loney hits his HR
Just kidding about Glee
I was trying to see if all of the Glee fans had given up on the game, and it appears they have
1-2 count on Loney. I've got a bad feeling about this.
2-2 count
take the walk
Mr LA SF, where are you for the 400?
boo loney
don't strike out against Methuselah
I'll take that as a sac, too
Remember when Loney would always make contact?
Beard Mode! Er, uh, Chin Mode!
Remember when Bills pitched well?
Once again Casey, I must ask too much of you.
Good pic Mr C
I was working on a bottle of that last night before i went to the Snoop Dogg show
seriously, Rhodes broke in with the O's in 1991. My word.
Did he ever throw a strike?
ARGAHHFHHFHAFSD
dammit casey! I know you've doubled and tripled already but we needed a HR there too
@FB
If the bottle wasn't dark, I could document my progress as this game progresses.
what's our fangraphs win %?
1 hour to Lakers tip-off.
Damnit!
