Post-Game 155 Thread: Playoff Bound

Joe Torre and Ned Colletti join in a toast to this year's playoff team.

DODGERS 8, PIRATES 4

Parts of today's game were expected: Randy Wolf got another no-decision, and the Dodgers had to come from behind.

Other parts were unexpected: The Pirates scored three runs off Hong-Chih Kuo and George Sherrill, and Jim Thome had two RBIs.

But the end result was something that has been expected for a long time: The Dodgers clinch a playoff spot. Champagne flowed in the locker room afterward, but heads stayed dry — for now. The Rockies' loss to the Cardinals tonight reduces the Dodgers' division-winning magic number to...one!

Kemp's shirt should actually read "Bison Mode".

Man, did you see those guys leaving the game thread? They looked pretty trashed.

Hey, anyone seen my jacket? I saw Dusty standing by it earlier on the patio. It had my...umm...keys in it. Yeah, keys.

Maybe it is time to start posting the magic number for home field advantage? (currently at 5 vs STL, 4 vs PHI)

@Nic j (from game thread)

Actually, I think the official magic number should be 1 (though both mlb and yahoo say 2). If we tie with Colorado, we have already won the season series, so we would win the division and they would be the WC.

I think the reason it's still listed as 2 is because technically the Rockies have not clinched a playoff berth yet. Yes, we all know there's no mathematical way for the Braves to pass the Rockies for the WC without also eliminating them from the West, but I think MLB can't "officially" talk about season head-to-head records until both teams are in.

Yeah I was just going by MLB's official number. I don't want to cross bud selig.
