I would rather be in first place than the yankees be in last
Nope. I live in New York...
Rays in first place. That makes me happy.
How could anyone with a soul not? I mean, outside of New York?
Leaving the yard today, there were a lot of "Let's Go, Dodgers" chants, which is fine, of course; what's telling is the "Angels Suck" taunts have completely vanished from the scene. Being in first place in the division would be something to be cocky about, and the cheap-seats fandom generally recognizes that that goal has yet to be accomplished.
Rays (tied for) in first place makes me happy to. $20 @ 150:1 odds to win it all type of happy.
vr, Xei
I'm digging that Rays bet. One of my great regrets in life... Walking by the a Vegas sportsbook in April of 2007. Looked at the odds for the NY Giants to win the Super Bowl. Thinking about dropping some cash on them. Then deciding I lost enough money that weekend. Yep, yep, yep, yep.
PS I'd be happier if I could post that in late September. Especially if the Rays can take the division while paying their players intern wages.
hmm weren't the Yankees behind in the beginning of last year too? I remember a certain sportscaster laughing his butt off in his podcast because the Yankees were so far behind
I'm with Falling. Yankees have had bad starts before; too early to count them out just yet (esp with their key injuries). Plus, when they make their inevitable surge, we'll be barraged by "the best Yankees comeback ever?" pieces on SportsCenter...
One of the reasons I posted it is cause I remember last year - and know this last place ranking will almost certainly not last. But a boy can dream.
Also: remember three years ago when Rob Neyer wrote off the Yankees at about the same point in the season? And then the Yankees actually exceeded his "isn't going to happen" pace of 83-47 by one game, took the division, and lost in the first round to the Angels?
They aren't dead until they're eliminated. It's like cockroaches that way.
Pardon, the Yanks met that pace. But still.
