You want fireworks? The Dodgers were happy to comply, starting with Kershaw's continued masterfulness. He pitched eight shutout innings, extending his scoreless streak to 36 innings, third behind Orel's 59 and Drysdale's 58. Kershaw also went 2 for 4 with an RBI at the plate. #howcanbradpennybebetterthanboth
The bats showed up, too, early and often. Puig hit a two-run rocket in the first, followed by an Ethier RBI triple. SVS put it out of reach with a three-run Roman candle in the fifth.
You want defense? Uribe made some noise with the leather. And the cherry (bomb) on top is that the Giants lost again, giving the Dodgers their largest first-place lead of the season at 1.5 games.
The only bummers of the evening: Hanley was hit on the hand again. He's fine. Newly activated Rockies starter Jair Jurrjens went to the hospital for "breathing issues" after coming out of the game in the fifth. Best wishes to him. UPDATE: He's fine.
They may not be able to find that elusive fourth consecutive victory, but it's a Happy Fourth of July for the Blue!
