Josh Beckett (6-5, 2.26) vs. Vance Worley (2-1, 3.38).
The Pirates' offense, undoubtedly frustrated after seven innings of extended-rest Ryu, today face a fresh-off-the-DL Beckett, who is currently being held together with spit and baling wire. "I feel like as long as I'm not messing up my mechanics and I feel like I can get people out, I'm just going to ride it out until the end of the year," he said. It's not exactly Mel Gibson's speech in Braveheart, but as long as Beckett can keep filling that number-four slot, we'll take it.

How often have we had the same lineup (apart from the pitcher) 2 days in a row?
I really hope Beckett isn't too rusty or injured
Meanwhile, Cain to the DL due to elbow inflammation.
Kemp back in right field!
Watching Gnats on MLB channel. Fughh #ineedmyboysinblue
2-1 Phills behind the hurler formerly known as Fausto Carmona...
Damn they just flashed highlights from Pittspuke...
Dre brings in JT tying the game at 2.
Polanco hits a solo off Becks. Tie didn't last long. 3-2 PiRats.
Selig in the booth with Charley and boys. Comments anyone?? Me, not a fan.
Selig can suck it. He knew all about the roids and didn't do a damn thing about it for all those years.
Now 4-2 Rats. 2 out in 3rd with man on second.
Guy on the Phills broadcast describes Panda and Gnats catcher as a, "couple of chunky Venezuelans"
@DBT...You said it far more eloquently then I could. It's funny how that doesn't seem to be mentioned when his ass is being kissed by all the interviewers interviewing him on his 'farewell tour'.
Sounds like cannibals delight... Cup 'O Chunky Venezuelans
AJ ties the game with a 2 RBI double. 4-4 with 1 out in the sixth.
The man formerly known as 'Donnie Baseball' chose NOT to hit for Maholm last inning while the Boys were rallying to tie the game. Maholm immediately has given up back to back singles to first two Rats to face him in bot of 6. Wright now in.
Nice managing by Donnie Baseball!
With Beckett unable to shoot from the hip anymore... I wonder if we're on the verge of a Zach Lee call up?
sure, just give it right back to them
Jamey Wright gives up 2 RBI single to Polanco. Rats on 1st and 2nd and now he gives up RBI single to Snider. Rats again on 1st and 2nd with 2 out. 7-4 Rats.
Now MCCutchen HBP, bases RA. Jamey throws WP to score 4th run of inning. 8-4 Rats. Wheels have officially come off the bus.
Dodgers finally out of the inning.
Can't wait to see what happens next.
Phils 5-3 over F Heads going to 7th.
JT HBP and Rat pitcher thrown out of game.
Clint Hurdle now thrown out. Wilson hit JT in retaliation for McCutchen getting hit last inning. The McCutchen HBP was unintentional and I didn't see any warning by ump, but JT HBP was obviously intentional and Rat pitcher was tossed immediately.
^ Hope that kind of makes sense!
AGon hits 2 run homer after JT HBP. Now 8-6 Rats in top of 7.
I'm not sure what happened cause I was helping my mom, but I think Jamey Wright hit the first Rat batter who just came up. Crowd is going crazy booing but umps not throwing Jamey out because it was a 75mph curveball.
SVS hits a PH homer to left with 1 out in 8th. Foamin' in the dugout. Now 8-7 Rats.
What a crazy game tonight! Still very winnable. All I can do is watch SF v Phiwwies and listen to Dodgers.
ps- On the gin, Vinny!
Perez walks bases RA in 8th. 1 out, Neil Walker up.
It's like "The Food of the Gods" up in here! click
Chris 'White Flag' Perez walks 4th in a row. 9-7 Rats. Mattingly now getting off his ass to bring in League.
League gives up 2 RBI single to Karina's son. 11-7 Rats.
All eyes look towards Philly for a little help.
Now 12-7. All 4 of Perez's walks come around to score.
Did C Perez really walk the bases loaded then walk a run in? You can't be in the league if you do that. #DFA
Pubes ties game for FH in ninth in Philly.
Fuck.
Dusty...The really hysterical thing about the whole Perez fiasco was that as he was coming in Charley, Hersch and Nomar were talking about how great he's been lately.
*cries*
Well, it's a done deal in Pittsville. Final 12-7.
I know I'm over-reacting, and that we have good pieces of a team, and that we still have one of the best records, but....I'm panicking. This is a microcosm for our pitching. Sure we have some of the best in K, Greinke, and Ryu, but huge dropoff after that and questionable middle and late relief. Doesn't win championships.
@Dusty you're panicking is justified. I don't have any kind of confidence in this team right now. I keep hoping the energy will pick up when everyone is healthy.
Dusty...I don't think you're over-reacting at all. It's July and these games feel like mid-September games to me. The pressure to win feels so intense. It's like in the blink of an eye we could be 9 1/2 out again. We do have a good team, but sometimes I see a team with a lot of heart and other times none at all. Kid K really sent a message hitting Mothballs not only to other teams but also to his teammates. Don't fuck with us. I was thinking this is it, this is where the Dodgers separate themselves from the pack but after watching the bullpen tonight I started feeling those panicky feelings too.
I'm feeling a titch panicky too. Everybody was all "YAYZ ONE GAME UP AT THE BREAK!" and I kept thinking about the 2012 team being a half-game up at the break. Throw in broken Hanley and Puig and some seriously dubious management decisions, and it's getting troublesome.
Plus, the Giants won in 14
gotta pitch better
no more Perez
Maholm only for mopping
PGT up.
@FB: almost some haiku action there!
