Vin Scully, on Thinking Different

Vin Scully, from last night's telecast:

Remember the big noise Charlie Finley made up in Oakland when he tried to introduce an orange baseball? Really, it was old hat. On this day in 1938, the president of the Dodgers, Larry MacPhail, introduced a yellow baseball. In golf they tried to have a yellow golf ball, but everybody went back to the regular stuff.

'Course Larry MacPhail was really different. In World War One he was part of a group who tried to kidnap the Kaiser, Kaiser Wilhelm. Also, he was the one who brought light in to the borough of Brooklyn. So Larry MacPhail, the redhead, was really something.

And I mentioned it earlier: In 1942, the Dodgers won a hundred and four games out of one fifty-four. Came in second to the Cardinals, and MacPhail told them they would lose.

Let's go back to this one.
