Clayton Kershaw (11-8, 3.07) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (17-4, 2.66).
![]() | ![]() |
[Sax here.] For all of Clayton's awesomeness, Accuscore (in todaysWSJ) predicts we will lose 4.8 runs to 3. They're so bearish on us that we don't even merit a fractional run. So will the boys in blue (with a three-game win streak) defeat the Rox and halt their four-game win streak? Manny's 2010 fate (likely) hangs in the balance!

dammitall.
Curvy goodness! Always a good sign. Glad to see Bara-cuda back in the lineup.
DAMMITALL should be in all caps, no?
That was a muttered dammitall, not a wall-puncher.
So does this mean Manny is gone or do they have him blindfolded and tied up in the clubhouse ready to move him if the ransom is right?
Per Ken Gurnik:
"Manny Ramirez is not in the Dodgers starting lineup tonight but is in the Dodgers clubhouse."
I think he is above a pool of great whites just waiting to be dropped if the White Sox don't save him!
FUCK YOU IPHONE (That was a wall-puncher)
Scooby Dooby Doo...where are you...when there's work to do now?
*Apologizes to iPhone, strokes its sweet, sweet oleophobic screen*
*Apologizes to Ken Gurnick for misspelling his name.* Perhaps Mr. C can loan you your missing "c."
Per caller ID, just got a landline call from "News." Didn't answer. Hopefully "Weather" will call later.
Dusty, that's the Daily News. Pick it up and tell them to fuck off or they'll call 50 times a day.
Why couldn't it be the Daily Planet calling me? :-(
I’m baaack. Hi, my name ees Manny Ramirez. I luv Sheecahgo, I luv de lake, the fan, Shytow’, wait, I mean Mannytow’. Bee-Eye-Pee Tickess haz de ticke’ to everyting dat happen een Sheecahgo. @Dusty Baker 3:37p: Scott Podsednik just tweeted that he wants Gurnick's misplaced "c".
Awesome, MLASF. Just awesome.
And more energy than I can muster at this point.
Epale,everyone!
Bravo,Mr LASF!
Well done Mr LA SF.
Or should I say (in a woman's voice), "VIP Tickets, oh yeah."?
Well done Mr LA SF.
Or should I say (in a woman's voice), "VIP Tickets, oh yeah."?
Just got up to enemy territory. Wondering if I should sneak out and root for some Snakes tonight or tomorrow night...
Epale Karina!
I'm having a cappuccino right now. Mixed emotions about it...
...Doo!
BRIAN FUENTES IS NOT OUR PROBLEM
unless we play the Twins next year. Because they claimed him.
Mr F: I'm having black coffee in bed.
And there's a stain on my notebook where your coffee cup was.
Steve Sax having black coffee in bed? I think I had a dream about this once. It didn't end well.
DAMNITALL!!!!!!!!!
@Steve Sax black coffee now is a good idea now. I haven't slept a bit!
I don't know if making one myself because
a)I might see a band tonight,if I convince someone,people don't want to go because this band throws paint to the public, cowards!
b)if I stay home, game will keep me awake 'till late
Just concerning the lineup, and since we likeyly want to win this game, it should be
Kemp
Carroll
Ethier
Manny
Loney
Barajas
Pods
Theriot
Kershaw
I can't wait till Torre is gone!
@Karina: I was writing to tell you that my feelings tonight
Are a stain on my notebook that rings your goodbye
Part of me wouldn't be surprised if Torre's thinking is: I can win without Manny. I'm sure this whole parade is all about Joe Torre! I can't wait till the book comes out, "the Dodgers years".
Manny's sitting because he's been piss-poor against Ubaldo. Part of that is Scotty Pods would be a better matchup, and the other part is that the brass wants to strengthen Manny's stock, and an 0fer with two Ks won't get much out of K-Will.
On ESPN.com: "Price Duels Lester as Rays, Red Sox Open Crucial Series In Tampa"
dear espn: the red sox are five games out of the wild card. Get over it and go find a cah to pock.
I got the cee-lo f-you song stuck in my head. It just comes out every time I think about Torre.
Did the Saints change their name to Steelers while I was in Ventura County? What's with the yellow pants?
I've plunged further and unfollowed TBLA. Nothing regarding numbers, just the constant bitching.
I only go to TBLA for the off-topic chats. I hate on of their writer/contributers.
one*
I mean, okay, I get it, Manny's a better hitter than Scotty Pods. But I really don't need to see you rattle off five tweets about how stoopid the move is. If it were just one tweet, I could deal with it, but it just wouldn't stop.
@Mr F: which one if I might ask?
Well, it's not Eric Stephen because he's awesome.
Damn Ryan Matthews is good.
Twitter is information overload for me.
@Sax:
Now there's ash in the page; I've gotten myself lost.
Now she's gone. . .
Hey, if you're up in the Frisco, you best head to the Toronado and Lucky 13. Get me a new Luck 13 shirt. Mine's getting a bit worn.
@Steve Sax did you sing to me?or do you want me to leave the GT? ;)
p.s I suspected it was a song so I made a quick research, I hadn't heard of that band or song
Sorry, had to tweet that.
@karina:
You've never heard of Squeeze or Black Coffee in Bed?
One of the greatest pop songs done by, arguably, the greatest pop band of all time?
With the possible exception of Badfinger, of course. And Cheap Trick, although they're more "pop/rock."
@Mr F I wasn't around when you were hanging out in last night's PGT but I wanna say things are getting out of the control with some Dodgers bloggers.
Last week I had to say something to someone who was mocking one of the dodgers.com writers because that person can't really defend herself.Some people should draw a line, the team is underperforming but overbitching is not going to improve the situation.
By the way, that person tweeted something over the line today and I was this close to unfollow him,i'm giving him a chance.
@rbnlaw not 'till tonight.I didn't know they are so big.I guess maybe they weren't that popular in Venezuela,like other eighties greats.
I liked the song a lot and I'm researching the band right now
Or we have a generational difference here :(
p.s the greatest pop band of all time is a title that belong either to The Beatles or The Beach Boys
The 80's is still kinda an unknown for me...
^belongs
I much prefer The Fixx over Squeeze.
But then again I just picked up Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime. Such an incredible CD. Classic.
Seriously glad I don't twitter.
Damn, I cut out for an hour and a half and now some shit's going down on the Twitters, MLASF. I'mma call some pipe hittin' people over if need be but sounds like you're holding your own for now.
I saw this X-Files episode last night about how Mulder, Scully, George Mason from 24, and Felicity Huffman were trapped in some arctic thing and started going crazy towards each other with cabin fever. I think the sorry state of the Dodgers is giving the Dodgers' internet community a certain kind of cabin fever. Tensions are high. People aren't in a good mood when it comes to the Dodgers. And it's easy to take things too far.
I appreciate the X-Files metaphor. X-Files is the best way to help me understand a situation.
[Not being sarcastic]
And if there's a parasitic worm trying to control people's minds, that's probably a combination of mainstream media and the McCourts.
@ Mr F
Yeah, but that bunch of aristocratic white guys that meet in Germany to control markets and governments...shit is real.
@karina:
The Beatles and The Beach Boys are well entrenched in the world of rock, although the term "pop" would've been used to describe their music at the time.
As for "pop," think bands that had lighter melodies, a big hook (catchy phrases or bridges), and short songs. The Beach Boys (one of my all-time faves) are close, but The Beatles are more rock, especially in their later years.
Look up The Monkees and Badfinger for the beginnings of "pop" (maybe Big Star if you like "power pop")
/music lesson
@Neeebs are you more of the progressive rock kind?
This is sad,I know Queensryche and had no idea about Squeeze
@Neeebs:
I almost deducted an "e" from your name for your Fixx/Squeeze comment. I can only hope you were flexing your sarcastic muscle.
Difford/Tillbrook > most of the rest of the 80's with the exception of Elvis Costello.
Mr. F: Arm yourself with knowledge.
Beer 3; Surly factor rising.
In theaters June, 2011.
@Karina
Get out and buy yourself some Squeeze. It's the shit.
@RBN
Glad to hear I'm not alone re Beach Boys.
I don't like twitter all that much, bit I'm following Ozzie Guillen.
I need entertainment.
^And Karina
DB,
Anyone who says they hate the Beach Boys, hates life itself. How can you listen to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and not gush over the harmonies, the chorus, and the production.
Brian Wilson > God.
Fuentes to Twins...he can throw his empty Bud Light tall boys over the back wall in Twins' new stadium now. Wonder if he'll keep his house down the road from my cousin in Merced, CA?
Completely agree, RBN, especially re that song.
@Karina:
I am TOTALLY a progressive rock guy. My catalog is filled with obscure prog bands. Dream Theater may be the most "popular" of them all, though.
@RBN: Not a Sgueeeze ;-) fan
*ducks* , but not a "not" fan either. Ambivalent.
q
@RBN
It's time to get ill.
@Neeebs
I am apathetic about your ambivalence.
DB, Do what I did. When (and if, I might add) you have kids, start the indoctrination early. Make them listen to The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Ramones (not necessarily in that order). Every time one comes on the radio, my kids (8, 10, 16, the 23 yr. old is a lost cause) can sing along.
Fucking sweet. Especially with some of the shit on radio these days.
@RBN
Can't I do that without having kids? Pls say yes.
I am appalled at Neeebs' ambivalence.
DB,
Check it.
@DB
I'm indifferent to your apathy.
Got a game to play.
Faberuben, out!
@Rbnlaw I'll have to check Badfinger, thanks for the class and the recomendations :)
@Neeebs I'll check The Fixx too
@Karina:
I just picked up Cerati's last CD. (poor guy.)
I'm hoping its up to par.
@RBN/Dusty:
Should I be "Tempted" to give Squeeze a second look?
Indoctrination is a great idea, rbnlaw. It worked on me anyway (my parents are big Beatles fans).
Heading home. See you all on the flip side of the blog.
On my way to Santa Monica for dinner, Vinny!
@Neeebs
It seems like if you haven't liked it by now, you probably won't. Old dog/new ticks and all. Don't torture yourself.
@MrF 5:10p: yes, I also think Eric Stephen is an incredibly prolific and knowledgable writer. And a nice guy, too.
@Rbnlaw that's what I call great parenting :), wish my dad had done the same but he doesn't listen any music in English and he does listen what my grandfather did.
Have you introduced The Clash to your kids?
@Neeebs my ex-boyfriend is a prog rock GEEK,imagine the geekest and multiply for 10.He worships Dream Theater and Mike Portnoy, you couldn't believe how much money and time he invests on them,he even has met the bad 3 times. He doesn't listen too much out of that genre. That's how I know something
In retrospective,I should have know it wasn't going to work when I made him to listen The Cure's Three Imaginary Boys, The Graduate soundtrack and some R.E.M. and he was "apathetic".Not to mention the strong language against Ramones, Sex Pistols and The Clash
To end the music conversation,this afternoon I had to close my workout routine big:one hour walking/bicycling and another hour running.
Playlist? Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and Blur's The Great Escape
Of course, he's also the guy that drove MR.LASF to unfollow TBLA...
The surliness is too high in Dodgertown.
The Great Escape is excellent!
That GIDP sucked...
I didn't learn Squeeze until college. I love Tempted and Goodbye Girl.
I agree with Dusty (I think it was Dusty) that the Beach Boys' harmonies are otherwordly great.
And I agree with rbnlaw to get the kids hooked on the standards early. Keep their ears from Ke$ha.
I'm in a agreeable mood I suppose!
I'm trying to indoctrinate my teenage cousins with Sufjan Stevens and... I don't know what else. But they still listen to Justin Bieber. It is too late with the indoctrination =/.
DAMNIT MATTHEW
Sufjan Stevens is too complicated for these teenagers,specially if they like Justin Bieber.
Try the classics,like Pavement ;)
Strong language against The Clash?? BLASPHEMY!
Sufjan is as catchy as the music I listen to these days. My cousins think the music I listen to is stuff you get high on and space out to =(.
@Dusty Baker I should have known, I should have known...
@Mr F hahahahaha, that's hilarious! what if you make them listen to recent Flaming Lips?
Stick to the classics, it's not too late
Kershaw's first 1-2-3 first inning all season? Wow.
Is there a baseball game on?
And now time for Kershaw's first home run of the season!
Barajas inspires fear, IBB?
what was that about?
Remember, MDIL, the No Talking About Dinger Rule is in effect.
At least Kershaw had a lengthy at-bat.
With Hawpe gone, who is the Dodger Killer in Waiting?
Oh, that's right...Helton. Back to re-take the crown.
=(
Kershaw's first inning troubles got delayed by one inning?
Patience, Mr F.This could be worse.
SWEET MOTHER OF SHIT. Cut us a break.
The ump?
How do we have four hits and no runs? Boooooooo
That GIDP in the 1st inning...
Come on, Rod! We love Rod!
Suck it Helton!!!
Nice catch, E!
3-0 Arizona!
Kershaw is pitching a better game than Ubaldo except for the solo HR...three hits scattered over four IP
Just checked out the Giants game.
Timmah's hair is still unwashed.
Karina, cover your ears...
FUCK YOU CARGO
Wash your hair, Timmeh!!!!
Cargo?
@Josh I didn't hear a thing.
It's official, I won't see the band, no one wants to go :(
Surly factor +20
CarGo=Carlos Gonzalez, Mr F
Thanks karina.
Too much surliness in the world.
Epale, all!
Did we leave the offense in Milwaukee?
The hits are scattered =(.
How pray tell did Fowler triple?
At least Clayton got out of it!
@Mr C: we left our offense with a weaker opponent.
@Karina:
They don't throw paint at a prog show. :-)
@Sax
Funny how that works…
This better not drag out too long. IPhone power on the wane and I'm far from home.
@Neeebs hahahahaha, but I still want to go :(
I could go alone, but it's sort of dangerous for a woman to take a cab at 3 am, the cab driver I always call is on a vacation :(
It makes sense when they throw paint,it's part of the concept,awesome band.They are gonna sell their record on the show, how will I buy it? :(
my only comfort is that Arizona wins 4-0
Timmeh update? Is he still in game? Has he washed his hair?
Why is the Colorado mascot a dinosaur? What's the connection?
Why is the Diamondback mascot a bobcat?
Timmah just made a perfect bunt, runners in scoring position, one out.
Sankes still up by 4
Neeebs! You violated my house rule re talking about that damned mascot. But then again you're not at my house. Neither am I, so technically the rule isn't in effect I guess. But don't tell MDIL.
^Snakes
Why the Phillie Phanatic?
@karina, your prog rock show that throws paint isn't...blue man group, right?
Why not the Phillie Victorino?
Or the Phillie Vagina-Shirt-Wearing Guy
Brox warming up for the seventh
Too bad Kershaw isn't going to get better than a potential loss, thanks to his impotent friends
BARAJAS IS THE ONLY HOPE OF THIS ORGANIZATION*
(as of right now in the top of the seventh inning)
Here comes the monkey man
@Steve Sax the band doesn't belong to prog rock (it's a sad genre for me anyway) and definitely it's not the Blue Man group.
The band I wanted to see is called La Vida Bohéme
Monkey man is not a rally monkey :(
Gibby, that GIDP was great
Not depressing at all that we're getting nothing done against arguably the best pitcher in baseball.
What's depressing is, not that long ago, before he morphed into an ace, we had his number.
It's weird to see Brox pitching on the 7th
Epale! How is everyone doing this evening?
Must.
Resist.
Mascot.
Talk.
sPODs gets one!
He's at 115 pitches to start the inning. Now is the time!
Scott Podsednik is my homeboy!
Standing Next to Doc Rivers in a swank Santa Monica bar.
Score, please?
Score is Rockies 1 Dodgers 0. We are working on Rancho Ardiendo.
We score!
I love you Dre
ETHIER!!!!!!
Whoo Ethier!
Tie game!
Give me more!
Dusty's out in my neck of the woods, and I ain't there.
IBB King James?
booooooooooooooooooo
FJL!
Probably all we could expect from Matthew.
Make him pay, Beard.
Blogger is slow!
Thanks, Meanie
Woot! Lead!
BEARDED SALAMI!!!
Barba, in play (runs)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome scoring!
Grand Slam?
Fear La Barba! (wouldn't it be a nice slogan for a shirt?)
BEARD!!!!!!!!!!
CAAAAAASEEEEEEY!!!!
Bearded salami?
GS Blake!
5-1 Dodgers!
Fuck yeah!!!!!
You can do this, Brox.
Brox stays in for the eighth
"Bearded salami," love it.
Even if the stomach turns thinking about it.
By the way, Charley's call of the Blake GS was pretty late, like he thought it was going to be a fly out to Fowler.
But then, I'd rather have a missed Steiner call that way rather than the other way...
My mind can be a dangerous place.
Bearded Salami = Very Bad Visual
Blogger is lagging again, right?
@Sax - it was really slow a bit earlier. It seems to have picked up some.
Dammit Brox, you had him 0-2 with two out, he couldn't catch up to four straight 96 mph fastballs, and you pitch the slider so he gets a RBI hit. Crap.
Kuo enters with two out in the eighth, Dodgers up 5-2.
@Meanie: thanks for the update. Someday blogger will have access to capital so they can invest in some infrastructure...
Boom goes the Kuo dynamite!
Helton Ks to end the 8th inning.
Methinks Dusty's iPhone ran outta juice.
Or MDIL caught him talking about mascots.
@Sax - I am so behind the curve. I thought by getting rid of Pedro it was going to help AC's salary differential and give much needed capital to improvements in the infrastructure. Fooled by corporate America again.
Kuo's first ab and against a lefty.
Phils and Pods tied in the eighth, Philly threatening to break the 1-1 tie
giants still down by four in the seventh, with Licecum chased from the game to go wash his hair.
200
201
Just got back from the store. Did Beard Mode go Boom?
@Meanie 9:07p: nice!
Actually it's not our infrastructure that is an issue. We are paying our bills again. It's blogger that needs more hamsters on the habitrail treadmill.
