Chad Billingsley (10-7, 3.70) vs. Jhoulys Chacin (7-9, 3.98).
COMMENTS: Four-game win streak, tie with the Rockies for fourth place in the NL Wild Card hunt, and a dramatic victory last night. I'd like to feel more confident about this resurgent Dodgers team. However, Billingsley, who delayed his start one day due to an issue with his right calf, will be pitching in Coors Field, not exactly the most hospitable place for shaky pitchers. That doesn't exactly build up my confidence level much, even if we are facing Chacin (1-2 vs. the Dodgers this year).
At least I can take solace in the fact that Dinger is probably having some leg issues, too. That's gotta be a groin pull. (Dusty, this one's for you!)

Manny not in lineup again today.
Beer status: Pacifico w/ wedge of key lime
Surly factor: 1
Podsednik 7
Theriot 4
Ethier 9
Kemp 8
Loney 3
Blake 5
Carroll 6
Barajas 2
Billingsley 1
Loneliness factor: 4
Symmetrical factor: 4
Except that "Loney 3" has a sliiiiight outward projection at the bottom of the curve. STOOPID TORRE!!!
But it works because Loney's in the middle. It's not a perfect curve, but it's still symmetrical.
True, true. It's like a little nipple at the bottom of the curve.
Screw that purple asshole of a mascot Dinger. WTF does a dinosaur have to do with the Rockies anyway?
I'm so tired of seeing him dance around directly behind home plate during the bottom of the ninth inning. There ought to be a law!
I'd post Mr C's explanation, but I fear banishment to my room.
@Chappy this is Mister Customer's explanation (from last night's GT):
While we're out from under Dusty's watchful eye, the Rox mascot is a dinosaur because the first triceratops fossil was discovered near Denver, and the great basin in general is noted for a well-preserved fossil record.
Personally, I don't know why they didn't go with Jan-Michael Vincent, though.
This concludes clandestine mascot talk for the evening.
It's not clandestine if I can see it!!
@MLASF re fantasy football:
Finally, football in LA!
Speaking of the football, if anyone wants to join, click here.
The draft commences at seven on Monday, same as the start time against the Phillies. Hopefully it's a time at which most of us are in front of our computers.
@Mr LASF I'm fearless of Dusty
Lotta sass coming from you today, Karina! Don't make me ground you!
^ And I like it!
Jumping over from nerd-central to see how the other half lives.
As if this space is filled with a bunch of mainstream cool kids?
Here are a few pics I took over the weekend during my trip to Dickey-Stephens Park in Little Rock, AR, where the AA Travelers play.
http://tinyurl.com/2eeedo5
Included the obligatory baseball seats pic, for those of you scoring at home.
Speaking of mainstream cool kids, I'm posting from work on a Saturday afternoon. How cool is that?
I meant the other half of the nerds.
RT @kengurnick: Joe Torre said he has not been ordered not to play Manny Ramirez. He started Scott Podsednik because he likes the energy of this lineup.
It's like Torre knows he's driving MOKM insane.
From Dylan Hernandez's twitter:
#Manny sitting because the #Dodgers are preparing to deal him? "No, no, no," Joe Torre said. "This is just my dumb move."
Heh. Clearly Torre is reading MOKM and thinks he has Moriyama on the ropes with this decision.
Maybe Manny just needs to go to Torre's office and talk it out.
Not that I don't want to see Manny in the lineup, but we are kind of on what passes for a roll here.
Padres are not getting any help from the home plate ump.
Hate: making you powerful and confused at the same time.
@Mr F
That's a good description of the Bush presidency.
OH NO HE DIDN'T just break the no politics rule!
Nobody ever had a dream round here,
but I don't really mind that it's starting to get to me
Nobody ever pulls the seams round here,
but I don't really mind that it's starting to get to me
I've got this energy beneath my feet
like something underground's gonna come up and carry me,
I've got this sentimental heart that beats
but I don't really mind that it's starting to get to me now
I have a five courser with wine pairings in my future tonight. When I get back you all better have cheered the Dodgers to victory!
Oh and easy on the hard stuff and keep the Biemel doll away from Dusty.
@Paul
I can do one of those directives but not both.
Someone likes to collect Beimel dolls?
I can't believe people have better things to do than post at SoSG on a Saturday afternoon/evening.
I have absolutely nothing better to do, Mr F.
Nats winning over Shards 5-3!
On the sofa, Vinny!
I want to see Reed Johnson and Rod Barajas in the same lineup. #juvenilecomment
I chuckled at the thought.
Leadoff walk up in dis bish!
Fucking Theriot.
Podsednik sure does suck. What the hell was Torre thinking, starting that piece of crap?
Was he safe at second? I want to say no, but I'm extremely biased.
Mr. C sure does suck. What the hell was Sax thinking, starting that piece of crap?
Jimmy Fallon sure does suck. What the hell was NBC thinking, starting that piece of crap?
We're not getting any leeway in this one.
Hey, a run!
I'll take it.

Score!
OT (Simpsons):
Wallace & Gromit to Guest on The Simpsons
Monday, July 26, 2010
By: Ramin Zahed
One of the big scoops of The Simpsons panel at Comic-Con this past weekend was that Aardman favorites Wallace & Gromit will be paying Springfield a visit during the long-running toon’s upcoming season on FOX. Showrunner Al Jean also told fans that the cast of Glee will also be featured in the show’s record-setting 22nd season.
The panel, which also included creator Matt Groening, exec producer Matt Selman and supervising director Mike Anderson, also noted that upcoming voice guests will include Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, Cheech and Chong, and Hugh Laurie (Dr. House), and that the Christmas episode will be puppet-animated.
When asked about the difficulties of keeping the show fresh after so many seasons on the air, Groening said, “I don’t think there is a problem with ideas. We have so many characters—what is there, like 50? One of the great things about animation is it creates a dream world. That’s fun for me as an animator.”
Previously, Jean told ew.com that Halle Berry and Paul Rudd are also part of the guest voice lineup this next season. Rudd stars as a therapist who’s horrified to learn that Homer has a habit of throttling Bart. “For 20 years we’ve shown Homer strangling Bart and we’ve never had anybody go, ‘Oh, that’s horrible!’” says Jean. “So Paul Rudd goes, ‘That’s terrible!’ and he tries to cure him.” The new season of The Simpsons premieres Sept. 26 on FOX.
Adam Dunn just hit a 3-run HR. 8-5 Nats over Shards.
Love the fact that Barajas is lifelong Doyers fan. Vin just mentioned how Rod's dad would take him to the Yard during Fernandomania.
Hate the fact that he just chased a ball way outside to strike out.
That was not one of Billingsley's prouder moments at the plate.
Epale everyone!
Epale karina!
Epale, Karina!
See the note I left you in the puzzle nerd thread.
Rancho Ardiendo and our MSB at the plate
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
!OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB
@Dusty sass? me? today? I'm still angry, my surly factor is at 5.It could have been better if stoopid rain hadn't interrupted my running.
@Mr F I'm rejecting every invitation today.If no one wanted to take one for the team last night, I'm not taking one for the team tonight.
@Paul I love when you quote "The Killers" in GTs
About to head over to Dusty's neighborhood. Do I need a passport to venture into Old Town?
THESE SHADOWS ARE A POX ON BASEBALL
@Dusty I just spilled water on the screen.Leave Mr C alone, he enjoys puzzles a lot, besides how do you know he doesn't have one?
You should come clean and say you miss him on GTs ;)
@Neeebs
What the hell...it's not Arizona!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It had to be CarGo.
If I ever stop teasing Mr C you know there is a problem.
And yes, I do miss Mr C, and Josh, and NicJ, and Spank, and the non-Karina ladies MB and Karen, and RBN, etc.
But not Orel. I don't miss him.
@DB; I thought everyone from the Valley had to bring their passport when traveling around LA. Afterall, MC calls my town Woodland Hells.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
"the non-karina ladies"
Hah.
Epale y'all! Looks like we have a tie game. Hoping for another exciting win this evening.
Sauvignon Blanc & Xanax
Surly factor: -1
Ahhh. Come on Chad!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
WTH? There went the tie game. Surly factor just jumped from -1 to +1
Venezuelan slang: "este inning salio barato"
This inning was better than expected.Go Chad!
Kempk sure does suck. What the hell was Torre thinking, starting that piece of crap?
@Neeebs
Naw, man, Pasadena be open to all. It's one of the most beautiful nights I can remember. I'll be the one the patio drinking and smoking a cigar.
@Neeebs
I'm glad that crack didn't go unnoticed.
Stoopid GameDay :(
This is a winnable game, go Blue!
I love the -1 (though it was fleeting), MB! Good stuff.
Actually, I just took Dusty's comment as helpful advice. I shall consider it.
@Dusty I miss Orel A LOT.
I always miss Eric Karros too :(
At least Arizona has the lead over Frisco.
@Mr C did you get bored of puzzles? :)
@Dusty - more wine and xanax and I'm sure any surliness will dissipate. Tonight it is off to Xanadu!
**trying to unwind from what has been a truly challenging week on many different levels.
Yeah...the crack went noticed alright. *planning my revenge*
@MB
Note that I just said I was missing you in the GT then like a few seconds later you showed up.
Greeting Friends!
Better late then never
Just for the record, I hate the Padres
@karina
I'm hitting the wall. Gotta head down to the pier in a bit.
DB - you just made a girl's day! I love all my SoSG friends. Now where in the heck is everybody else. Gee, you would think they all have lives.
Karen, Welcome! You are psychic too. Dusty said he missed us and here we are.
Lives schmives.
@Mr C well done! I totally support that decision,meanwhile you can work on your new life purpose there. Good luck!
100!
Greetings karen!
I miss having a huge Hawaiian style pizza with extra cheese and a nice bottle of red wine!
*waits for it to appear*
Mr. C - how are your war wounds today?
@Mr C one question:do you have to solve the entire issue today?
Speaking of missing people, where the heck has Fred been?
@Karina
I said I'd consider it. That's way more responsibility than making sure a cat doesn't get outside, and we saw how that turned out.
Fred's Brim is a big old pile of poo!
*trying to bait him out of hiding*
@MB
Minor throbbing.
@Dusty
Not that kind.
9-5 Nats.
MB...I was just going to thank Dusty for his good thoughts and explain that my other life keeps getting in the way of my real life (SoSG) but then Dusty said "lives schmives" so I'm thinking that that excuse isn't going to fly!
@Mr C are you talking about puzzles or girlfriends?
I liken this place to Hotel California. "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave".
@karina
There's no real time limit to solve, but to get into the higher rankings, I think it's the pretty much within the first day.
@karina
Both. To which response are you referring?
TBLA said that Vin said on the air (regarding Tulo), "party in the back." We need audio of this.
MB "Hotel California"...what a perfect analogy
@Mr C 6:31 pm.Anyhow, I'm laughing!
@Karina
I'm headed to Boston this next week and will be there while your beloved White Sox are playing. I'm going to catch one of the games but not sure which one. I will cheer them on for you.
@Karina that one is definitely por una novia.
**Dusty disclaimer**
Being that I am clearly headed to Xanadu all spelling,grammatical, and punctuation errors are to be forgiven. In other words, tonight I have a friggin free pass.
Come on guys, we need some hits!
@Meaniebreanie awesome! hope you have a great time over there!
and thank you very much :)
We need to score!
True on so many levels...
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Epale!
I have almost no idea what's been going on with this game (other than we're losing). We just wrapped up Luke's first birthday party.
Beer status: Gordon Biersch Märzen
That's not Luke's beer status also, right?
I don't care too much for Todd Helton.
MLASF out.
@Josh
Stay with Luke's bday party. You should have something to celebrate. We had a lead at one point and now we have an ever increasing deficit.
I would think that Luke is more of a corellian ale kinda guy.
I can't believe I knew of that from the top of my head...
@Josh my best wishes to Luke. Did he enjoy his party?
@Mr F NERD (the way it should be)
@Dusty why don't you say you miss my son? my 2008 son?
Alright. Gotta blow, kiddies. Don't wreck the place. I'll have mobile monitoring only from here on out.
Thank God for the double play!
Whoa....I take a second to make some pasta, then come back to all sorts of tangled comments/responses. It's like we're doing the Scooby Doo/multiple rooms thing within the same GT. Help!
@MB
Understood...full free grammar pass for you! Use it wisely.
@Karina
Wait, which son am I supposed to say I miss?
News:
By Ken Gurnick / MLB.com
08/28/10 9:27 PM ET
DENVER -- Dodgers assistant general manager Logan White is expected to be a candidate for the Arizona Diamondbacks general manager position, but the Dodgers have not yet been asked permission to interview him.
Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall, a former Dodgers executive, has said he hopes to hire a GM before the regular season ends. Jerry DiPoto has been acting GM since the July 1 dismissal of Josh Byrnes. DiPoto also is expected to be interviewed. Also rumored on Arizona's radar are Damon Oppenheimer of the Yankees and former Padres GM Kevin Towers.
White has been in charge of the Dodgers' Drafts for nine years and has received industry acclaim recently for drafting and signing first-round pick Zach Lee, who was considered unsignable by many clubs because he was committed to play quarterback for Louisiana State.
My only son (besides Coper): Russell Martin
Nats won 14-5 over the hated Shards!
ManRam on deck!
If Rod does something here I will not miss your son, Karina.
I do not miss your son, Karina.
MANNY! Come on you beast.
Manny got loose from his captors
MANNY NOT UP IN DIS BISH!!!
Well crap
Well, I'm nit going to miss THAT Manny, I tell you what.
^ I had to add not at the last second. I thought he was going to do something there. Besides K.

White Sox losing to the Yankees 12-7,however they have scored two in the ninth
Just as important: don't go anywhere, Kim Ng!
Crap, way to go Belli.
Damn Cargo
Thank you umpire.
So are the white sox willing to cough up any prospects yet?
Confirmed: it was a trap.
what happened?
Oooh ejection, who pitches now?
It had to be CarGo
Oh my god, it's flat breezy. Everybody hang on as this could be a bumpy ride.
***Goes to grab more wine
THROW AT HIS FUCKIN HEAD, FLAT BREEZY!
Karen,Meaniebreanie: do you like football?
Karina...I love football. I'm a very proud Saints fan. How about you??
@MB
I would lay into the Xanax more than the wine at this point.
#DrBakerComment
Karina -
I live in Texas. I LOVE FOOTBALL! As far as this state is concerned it is the only sport. The movie and TV show Friday Night Lights is patterned after Odessa Permian (which my high scool team beat for state).
GO COWBOYS AND GO SAINTS!
PS I saw the Saints new Superbowl rings. They are awesome! I would change my avatar to show but you cannot see the detail. Just a drunk Benson trying to grope my boob.
Watching the Sox de Blanco game, they've scored 3 in the 9th, no outs!
@DB - Mick definitely knew what he was singing about when he described Mother's Little Helper.
Meaniebreanie do you want to join the fantasy league Mr LASF is putting together?I don't want to be the only girl there
Although I love football I don't know the first thing about fantasy leagues. It might be fun to try. The ex-husband always used to play them and made quite a bit of money. If I want to try what do I need to do to be in?
How many people are currently in MR. LASF's fantasy football league?
Was this as funny in action as it reads on Gameday?
"Casey Blake doubles (23) on a line drive to right fielder Seth Smith. James Loney scores. Casey Blake out at 3rd on the throw, right fielder Seth Smith to second baseman Eric YoungJr. to first baseman Todd Helton to third baseman Melvin Mora to first baseman Todd Helton to third baseman Melvin Mora to second baseman Eric YoungJr."
FJL!
if the trend continues against the rox this year we will win tomorrow.
DALLAS COWBOY FOOTBALL RULES! *streaks*
#TroyAikmanIsGod
Arizona over Hated Ones 9-1in the 4th.
Nic lives!
@DB
Roger is God. I did business with Roger for several years and he truly is a very nice man and class act. Troy is right up there with him. Randy White is also a sweetheart. I also love Michael Irvin. He has always been so polite to me. Say what you will about him but I love him. He is a bad boy who is really trying to be good. I have met a few players in my time having lived in Dallas for so many years. Deion Sanders has to be one of the most arrogant asses I have ever met.
ive been running the hamster wheel that makes the dodgers offense go for the past couple days.
Obviously i had to take a break today, leg cramp.
We need a miracle and now it's back to Flat Breezty.
@Meaniebreanie you'll have to sign up for espn.com
@Mr F only Dusty and Mr LASF as we speak
@MB
I started to rant about Roger being a right-wing ahole, but then realized I'd have to broaden that to a lot of former 'Boys I admire. Scratch that take.
You left out MY BOY Emmitt!
I got to meet and hang out with the 'Boys several times in the mid-90s when we were running the table on fools since I worked in [redacted...the place where championship teams get to go meet the president].
@Karina,
You did not answer my question. How does one get into the fantasy game?
@Karina,
I'm not a huge football fan, but I'm doing one fantasy league already. I suppose I could also sign up for this one if you're in need of more people.
wait, what about a fantasy league? ill join if there are spots still open.
This Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is not tasting as goof cause our offense sucks!!!
Come on!!
Oh count me in on the fantay football if there is room.
You sign up in espn.com and you go to the link Mr LASF posted at the top of this GT
I only met Emmitt once. He seemed very nice. There were a lot of nice ones over the years. He wasn't with the squad very long but I loved Jeff Rohrer. He was very funny. Too Tall used to throw some very fun parties back in the day. At 5'1" it was very odd to stand next to him. He had to practically get on his knees to talk to me.
On behalf of MLASF, since I believe he checked out, there is plenty of room for more in this fantasy league. Gimme a sec and I'll see if I can dig up the link.
@Paul - I switched to a nice grenache and it's making sweet, sweet love to me.
dodgers are so poor they only have one catchers mitt
Karina - got it. Thanks for the info.
http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leagueoffice?leagueId=801142
Hell, we hit another one? Bad night for Dodger pitchers.
These things come in threes.
(re hit batsmen)
201!
The other guy from Maracaibo...
got you Dusty!
Do you believe in miracles? Cause we sure need one!
I believe,MB
