Not-So-Hot to Trot

From Ken Gurnick's latest "Mailbag" at Dodgers.com:

Why did the Dodgers sign Luis Gonzalez when they could have had the much younger Trot Nixon for less than half the price?
-- Tim C., Long Beach, Calif.

Nixon hasn't had a healthy -- or productive -- season since 2003. Over those three years, Gonzalez has played 127 games more than Nixon, whose relative youth is negated by his inability to stay on the field. He's so fragile, the Red Sox would rather have J.D. Drew playing right field.

"He's so fragile..." sounds like a punchline.
