Saito Staying with Dodgers?

The Kyodo News reported today that Takashi Saito will stay with the Dodgers for 2007. according to sources close to Saito.

Saito has received an offer from the Dodgers that would roughly double his salary from an estimated $320,000 for this year, the sources said, adding he is scheduled to hold a press conference Wednesday.

After earning a call-up to the majors in early April, the 36-year-old was given the closer's role and earned 24 saves while going 6-2 with a 2.07 earned run average in 72 games.

So for roughly the same price as Jose Cruz Jr., we get a pitcher who was a decent closer for us, especially in the second half. If this gets confirmed, nice deal, Ned!

UPDATE: Saito is indeed staying put with the Dodgers, though the amount batted around is $1M plus $300K in contract incentives. Still, a great deal, Ned.
