Orel Hershiser, Manager in Waiting?

Another year of managerial opportunities has passed and my namesake Orel Hershiser is now 0 for 2 (Dodgers, A's). But if Bud Black succeeds in San Diego and helps dispel the trope that former pitchers don't make good managers, it seems inevitable a team will take a chance on Orel—a Cy Young winner with a World Series ring and front office, coaching and broadcasting experience.

Meanwhile, Orel can continue to provide intelligent and lucid color commentary for ESPN. (Any chance we could lure him to replace Rick Monday?)

I don't know, I've heard Orel read a Panda Express radio ad and it sounded horrible. I say we keep Rick around at least for that part.

And hey, Orel, isn't this post a bit of shameless self-promotion?

Hey, feel free to post next time Steve Sax interviews for a managerial position.

I once heard Rick Monday turn "LASIK eye surgery" into "lazy eye surgery."
