Post-Game 133 Thread: The Future Of This Organization

PHILLIES 8, DODGERS 4

Carlos Monasterios may indeed be the future of this organization (as we mentioned earlier, so trumpets Mr. LA SF), but he unfortunately wasn't the August 31 2010 of this organization, as Monasterios gave up 5 ER over 2.0 IP across a short 40-pitch stint. He left in the third inning having not recorded an out and leaving two on, and Ramon Troncoso promptly left a meatball for Ryan Howard, hungry for a home run after a 13-game drought, to place over the centerfield wall for the Phils' second three-run HR of the game. Sigh.

Free James Loney got a two-run HR of his own in the sixth to bring the Dodgers within two, but Jonathan Broxton, entering the game with the bases juiced in the seventh and two out, pitches two 94-mph fastballs out of the zone so Carlos Ruiz could establish timing--only to follow with a 93-mph fastball in the zone that Ruiz bangs to left for a two-RBI single. 8-4, game set match.

Kenley Jansen pinch hit in the fifth for Troncoso and got a hit, so there's that. That makes him about 800 points ahead of Mark Sweeney.

We're going to have to reach a better level of suckitude if we want to beat Oakland for a protected draft pick. WHY ARE WE SO MEDIOCRE?

@Mr LASF "WHY ARE WE SO MEDIOCRE?"

@MLASF, HA!

Without a gin & tonic the size of a small pool, that game might have sucked.

@Mr C at least it was a night out with nice company

Steve Sax said...

@Karina, @mr c: at least you got to hang with Dusty.

And us, of course.

Steve Sax said...

Wait a minute. Mr C, how did you get past the screeners with a gin and tonic?

Nobody in Chicago likes Manny. Nobody in Boston likes Manny. Nobody in LA likes Manny.

Steve Sax said...

I like manny. Will try and finish the post for tomorrow.

Screw them all.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I can't hate Manny. He's too Manny, if that makes sense.

Mr. Customer said...

@sax

G&T was acquired within the gates at the Loge lounge. Dusty shamed the barkeep into producing one of the appropriate size.

@karina / sax

"at least a night out with nice company"

A perfect metaphor for the the 2010 Dodgers, actually.

NicJ said...

it is crazy how the MSM hates manny so much. I dont think its the same with the fans.

NicJ said...

You know the season is over when the main topic of Dodgertalk is about some girl getting hit in the head with a foul ball.

NicJ said...

why is bill simmons such a hater?

im going to enjoy another 20 years of celtics ineptitude.

To further Mr C's explanation re the tidal pool of gin we drank tonight: We went to that Loge Lounge place expecting to sit down and have a nice cocktail before heading to our seats. Alas, they had the seating area roped off so that a jackload of Phiwwies supporters could have a nice leisurely cocktail and catered food sort of party. Thanks, Frank! Sowe stood in line with expectations for something junipery and tonicky. When it came time to order, I asked what size gin and tonic they offered. Barkeep offered a comically small little plastic cup. I literally told him not to toy with me. So I asked if he could make us a double g/t and to his credit he obliged, mixing it in the size cup normally reserved for 22oz of beer. We even got two limes each out of the deal.

Helps to be confidently aggressive.

Highlight reel:

NicJ: I hate Ruiz so much i dont even listen to Panama by Van Halen anymore.

Mr. Customer said...

OH at the game:

"Ruiz, you fat Panamanian buzz kill!"

Actually, that was me.

Dusty Baker said...

^ Twas true.

Alternately, one could conceivably say: "Ruiz, you fat Van Halen buzz kill!"

I was at the game, the Podsednik catch was the highlight of the night. There was no life until the Loney Homer, but it all promptly went away after broxton. he gets more boos than sherrill now.

I went to bed early, so I missed Karina Rickrolling the PGT.

Josh S. said...

Will the call-ups make it for a noon game? Did they plan ahead for this eventuality?

karina said...

@Josh S the Dodgers rickrolled us in 2010, don't you think?

karina said...

@Mr C @Sax if it wasn't for you, this season would have been depressing.

by you, it's the Sons and fellow readers

@Mr LASF There are people in Cleveland that love Manny.

Fred's Brim said...

I still love Manny

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I'm pretty sure any love remaining has been transformed into hate towards LeBron.

Meaniebreanie said...

Sorry I missed you guys last night. Rafa, Beaver, Moose Knuckles, Gin and Tonics, and an awesome catch by my boy Scotty P. It sounds like a good time was had by one and all.

I for one still love Manny and hope to get to see him play in the next few days against the BoSox.

Manny's debut at 9am, Dodger game at noon.

I'm...not going to get much done today.

karina said...

There's much hate in this world to also hate Manny.

Mr. Customer said...

…like Shane Victorino! Hate that guy.

karina said...

This presents an ethical dilemma: is it fine to not hate Manny, but it's fine to hate on Shame Victorino?

karina said...

^Shane

Dusty Baker said...

Not sure I get the comparison. Different situations.

rbnlaw said...

I like that name:
Shame Victorino.

It's a keeper, as are the gin and tonics.

Josh S. said...

Shame Loserino.

Dusty Baker said...

Shame as in "Shame we didn't keep him; he's good. But now we have to hate him."
