Post-Game 126 Thread: Welcome To The Dodgers, Rod Barajas

DODGERS 5, BREWERS 3

Rod Barajas joins the Dodgers and has three hits, including two doubles and a sixth-inning home run that sounded something like this:

This one.
Hit well.
Deep left center.
It's got a chance, it's GONE!
Welcome to the Dodgers, Rod Barajas!

(Eric Collins is not quite a poet, that's for sure.) Matt Kemp had the Dodgers' other two RBI with a two-run jack to center that scored James Loney (1-for-4). And when I say "jack", I mean "ball becomes lodged in the centerfield scoreboard of Miller Park":

That is not a renegade pixel.
UPDATE: Josh S. tells us that isn't a Matt Kemp HR ball, either! (see the comments)

Ted Lilly went a servicable 6.1 IP (7 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 Ks), and Hong-Chih Kuo survived a shaky ninth inning that involved a single and a comebacker which Kuo airmailed to Kemp (failing to account for the diminutive Jamey Carroll--it's a trap!) to put two on with one out.

Whatever; with Barajas providing production from the catcher's spot, things suddenly look rosier with only 36 left to play (7 GB in the WC, pending outcome of the Philly-Houston game). And, his output saves me from going to some sophomoric "Dodgers Trim Bush" headline. Whoops, I just did!

More production from the catcher position than 3 others combined. Or at least it seems that way.

Do we make party after beating the Brewers? Do they bring the beer?
Seems fitting.

I meant more production from Barajas than 3 others combined. I'm a little tired.

Dusty reporting in from Lost Angels' Double A team headquarters. THESE GUYS SUCK-DIDDLY-UCK. If this is the future of the Lost Angels of Fullerton, we are in for a treat. Horrible, horrible play.

Matt Kemp's homerun was really far.

GAARP IS THE PEASANT OF THIS ORGANIZATION

NicJ said...

@DB, are the fans there annoying? ive been to angels stadium, AAA, and A+ and all angels fans are annoying. Example, yelling swing at the opposing batters on every pitch or yelling I got it for every fly ball, no matter how far away.

Miss Cleo?

Nosty's gonna be PISSED.

NicJ said...

im sure he saw that coming anyways.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We can't afford Nosty. Frank has to cut somewhere.

@Nic

Of the 125 fans in the stadium, the only annoying ones were my brother and my buddy Jeff. I saw a few people with Angels gear, but very few. This is still Shards country, and thought you can take the Mothership away from the AA team, you can't suddenly generate a lot of fan interest for the new ownership's team.

NicJ said...

Maybe he knew he was going to be replaced and instead withdrew to save himself the embarrassment.

Latest drivel from T.J. Simers involves some kind of fantasy where he's owner of the Dodgers and Donald Sterling is a silent partner.

And they wonder why print journalism is dying.

@dylanohernandez: J.Torre has been approached by someone who wants him 2 be 2 Dodgers what N.Ryan is 2 Rangers: http://lat.ms/cxnIRr

Paul said...

Joe Torre is going to be a hof starting pitcher?

NicJ said...

at least it is that time of year when Plaschke moves on to complaining about USC and leaves the dodgers alone.

Steve Sax said...

Joe Torre is going to be a rom com actress with a horrible plastic surgery job?

oh wait, N ryan. My bad.

Steve Sax said...

@NicJ: Is it already time for Bill Plaschke to go back to school?

Steve Sax said...

Padres just beat the snakes 5-0

Giants in a squeaker with Cincinnati, up 16-5 in the eighth.

Rockies beat the Braves 5-2.

We gain no ground!

(Phils lost to the 'Stros, so there's that.)

NicJ said...

From the way he writes i wasn't sure if he ever went there to begin with.

NicJ said...

hmmm who the hell do i root for to win the WC?

i hate all the teams in contention for it. The closest team i don't hate is us, and i don't really like us all that much at the moment.

Go Mets!!

I'm also confused about something else this morning. I have seen various blogs say that the ball that is stuck in the scoreboard was from Matt's home run, but in the video of the homer, the ball bounces back on the field. Also, there's a video out there about the stuck ball in which the Brewers announcers say someone had some fun and stuck a ball there "near where Kemp hit his home run."

Josh S. said...

Nevermind. MSTI answered my question. ESPN had an erroneous caption that led everybody to believe the ball was from Kemp. It was a ball stuck there from BP. (Get back to cleaning the Gulf!)

Thanks Josh S: noted in the original post
