The Dodgers win by two field goals in Citizens Bank Park, their own house of horrors, thanks in part to the incredible Jay Gibbons, who homered today for the first time since 2007. Gibbons ended up 3-for-4 in today's game with 3 RBI and the two-run HR, making him 4-for-5 as a Dodger with a 2.200 OPS. The rest of the Dodgers' offensive lines were simply silly, as every starter except Jamey Carroll had at least one hit or one RBI: Andre Ethier went 4-for-4 with 4 R and 3 RBI; James Loney went 2-for-5 with 2 R and 2 RBI; Casey Blake went 2-for-4 with 1 run and 4 RBI. The Dodgers had 18 hits in their attack (matching their total from April 21) in achieving their highest run total of the year.
The pitching was mediocre, with Vicente Padilla yielding 4 ER in 5.0 IP; Ronald Belisario emerged from limbo to pitch 1 IP and yield 1 ER, and Carlos Monasterios and George Sherrill each gave up a couple more ER, before Octavio Dotel had to come in in the ninth for the final out. Against a lineup that was missing Shane Victorino, Ryan Howard, and Chase Utley, one would have thought we'd have given up fewer than nine runs. But I'll take the win in the opening game of the series, for sure.

Padres up 3-1 over Pittsburgh in the bottom of the seventh, adding the third run in this frame. This one is over.
Giants down 6-2 to the Cubs in the bottom of the sixth in SF. They've got the Cubs right where they want them.
Go Cubs go!
Going to the eighth in SD, 3-1 Padres
Great night for the Gibbons family, the Dodger family, the SOSG family!
We still can't shut that offense down in Philly even if they are the one armed no legged blind monster.
So the Dodgers aren't the only ones who needlessly fear Aaron Rowand.
gameday is stuck in SD. It looks like there's a guy on second with none out in the top of the eighth?
shit, radio says it's 4-1 san diego. I guess gameday is totally locked here.
f' this, I'm switching to the Cubs @ SF game
I made party at dinner once No Tell Dotel got the final out some 30 min into the bottom of the 9th.
Gibbons is a breath of fresh monkey air.
Theory: The Dodgers were batting for so long in each inning, Battletoad lost his edge. Still, serviceable.
DAMN YOU OYSTER PUBES
2 out fly ball and the cubs drop it. It's 6-4 Cubs now.
burrell k's to end the inning
6-4 through seven innings in SF
Padres still up 4-1 in the top of the ninth, last chance for Pittsburgh
Pirates have a baserunner with none out! Oh, this is going to be a tease.
whoops, now one out
Pirates lose. Padres win.
Turning the "channel" to the other game, Cubs at Giants; Cubs have a man on first with one out in the top of the eighth.
Cubbies!!
holy cow, Fontenot with a two-run double!
Cubs lead 8-4!
WGN broadcasters: "And it's starting to empty here at AT&T Park, as fans head for the exits."

@Sax

STOOPID FATTY STOP BEING STOOPID
two on, two out for the giants, down four runs in the eighth. Andres Torres (0-for-4) up...
@Paul: Maybe Philly ran out of box wine.
Or batteries to throw.
Nice play!!! Can we have that Castro?
Torres lines out to short!
8-4 after eight.
STOOPID SORIANO STOP BEING STOOPID
I don't have much faith in Marmol.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY GET SOMEONE OUT MARMOL!!!
cubs are really trying to choke this away
Oyster Pubes doubles in a run so it's 8-5, and then Burrell follows with a single so there are men at the corners with one out and KFP at the plate.
Great.
marmol is soooooooooo much worse than Broxton.
both fans left at AT&T park are standing, "...because the scoreboard is telling them to make noise"
Lemmings, I tell you. Giants fans are lemmings.
GOOD FUCKING LORD YOU SUCK MARMOL FUCK YOU
sandoval with an infield single. 8-6 Cubs. One out. Juan Uribe up, men on first and second.
Uh I am getting sick.
One more man, and it's Travis.
Just to keep the whole monkey theme going on, if I were at this game I'd be screaming:
"Marmol? Sit."
Uribe Ks on three pitches.
That's good.
Thank the gods Uribe remembers how to suck.
squishi ishikawa
One more strike.
0-2 to squishikawa
IT'S OVER
GIANTS LOSE
YES!!! 4.5 BACK, BITCHES!!!
Gameday has Ishikawa's second pitch waaaaaaaaay inside and low (swinging strike)
Dodgers are 7 GB in the NL West, 4.5 GB in the NL WC.
Good night everybody!
Haha. All MCC seems to be saying is "fuck Mota."
Dodgers with GA: 4.33 runs per game
Dodgers w/o GA: 11.5 runs per game
(Sample size what now?)
All the Baker-Ikemiyashiros were busy at work so we DVR'd it and didn't catch up until just a bit ago.
Thoughts from my review of the GT, which I apologize for missing:
What's the story with Kemp's best friend?
How many white guys can we fit on one team? I thought I was at a Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee strategy meeting while watching this game.
Did HLACK ever get that western bacon cheeseburger?
Great line, Paul: "You can't stop Breezy you can only hope to designate him for assignment"
Walking Breezy? OMG as the kiddos say now.
I'll take this shit. Felt good. La Barba! Gibby! Dre Day! Fuck the run differential; often the case on out of reach games that the other team scores a significant number, too.
Bills v Oswalt. Hick on hick violence. My money is on His Thighness.
Holy smokes, DB, your last comment there matches my thoughts for tomorrow's GT (already written). Wow.
I respect the fact that you are writing tomorrow's GT intro tonight, Sax.
Timmeh's hair is out of control.
Like his fastball.
"What's the story with Kemp's best friend?"
I think that was a reference to Kemp losing GA.
@Dusty: doing our homework the night before allows us to do other things the next workday.
Like work, for example.
