Post-Game 105 Thread: Game Over

GIANTS 2, DODGERS 0

August 1, 2010, will be known for a few things: the day Matt Cain recorded his first W over the Dodgers, and the day the Dodgers' 2010 became their 2007 (final finish: fourth place). Turns out Scott Podsednik (1-for-4), Ryan Theriot (0-for-4), Octavio Dotel (one scoreless) and Ted Lilly are going to be nothing more than paperweights. But at least they'll be veteran paperweights. Is it bad form to go into rebuilding mode one day after the trading deadline?

Dear Dodgers,

You suck.

Sincerely, MLASF

PS: Enclosed are the contractor bills for my walls. I expect them to be paid in full with cashier's checks.

Nostradamus said...

Yeah, that was an infuriating game, by the way.

NicJ said...

SELL! SELL!! SELL!!!

Nostradamus said...

I'm submitting my bar tab to accounts payable, too.

Greg Hao said...

Ugh, it's so depressing after the Dodgers gave up all that young 'talent'. So, what's the over/under on Colletti actually getting anything worthwhile back by 8/31?

NicJ said...

just lay back and let the warmth of fourth place embrace you.

Feels like home.

NicJ said...

giants are using up all there good games too early, suckers.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We averaged two runs a game during this series.

Sounds crappy enough, but then you take into account that 6-5 loss on Friday, and it's even worse.

Josh S. said...

I think it's easier on everyone to call it a season now. If they somehow eke out a playoff spot, I can't handle them going out like chumps in October again.

InlandDodger said...

I know you will start to see people boycott driving all the way to Chavez Ravine.

Try and spin it, maybe if the team sucks something awful for the next year or two the team revenue will drop and McCourt will be forced to sell the team.

karina said...

Calm down gentlemen. At least don't lose hope they won't make to the playoffs...what's up with you?

NicJ said...

you know the team is going down in flames when the lurkers start to post.

Welcome!! There are enough torches and pitchforks for all!!!

rbnlaw said...

Aw, karina, I wish I could be optimistic, but as my wife would say, "They suck."

She seems to be awfully pragmatic about these things.

rbnlaw said...

Torches and Pitchforks signed for the Sahara Tent at next year's Coachella.

Josh S. said...

karina, I try so hard to be as positive as you, but other than our starting pitching, the team is giving us NOTHING to be optimistic about.

NicJ said...

i need some comfort food.
To the Chipotlemobile!

rbnlaw said...

C'mon, Josh, there's those snappy uniforms.

Nostradamus said...

Actually, the thing that I dislike most is that I don't know where we go from here.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We could always just spend the rest of the season devising clever ways to mock Pablo Sandoval's weight.

I already called him

Fatso McFatty
Tubby Tubberson
Fatty
Tubbs
Lardo McLardy
Ginormous
Size 72 Waist
Lardo

NicJ said...

well, with no money and no prospects for next year the possibilities are limitless*

*severely limited.

Josh S. said...

I'm fond of calling him Blob-lo.

Nostradamus said...

@karina

My hope is not what is deficient.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Let's look on the bright side.

Anyone want to take a stab at our starting lineup/rotation for 2011?

Doesn't look very good either, eh?

Nostradamus said...

@Neeebs

We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Any bets on what the coaching staff and front office will look like?

Kyle Baker said...

These shitsucking bitches couldn't hit the broad side of Joe West'd ass.

Uncle! Uncle! I give up!

That said, anyone interested in going to see Lilly's debut Tuesday?

Kyle Baker said...

Wait, there's a Chipotlemobile?

Nostradamus said...

@dusty

I don't really feel like encouraging these performances with a monetary contribution.

Josh S. said...

Back to my mantra. --->

Kyle Baker said...

@ Mr C

I know know what you mean. Unfortunately, one of few places I derive zenlike bliss is the Yard. Not sure how to reconcile this. At least nothing that doesn't involve Frank McCourt and a plunger.

Josh S. said...

99-cent Top Deck tickets for Tuesday on Stubhub right now.

Josh S. said...

That's about 98 cents more than I'm willing to pay, though.

Nostradamus said...

@dusty

I can't stay away for long, either. At least a two week moratorium is appropriate.

NicJ said...

what the hell? we have padres fans trash talking on dodgertalk.

crap.

Kyle Baker said...

So 15.99 with parking. Plus beer.

Hmmm. I do need to make my Dodger anniversary on the 5th though. Have to tip the cap to the old man from LFP.

NicJ said...

Podsednik just said he regrets leaving the winning atmosphere of KC.

spank said...

I hate pointing fingers at things other than myself pertaining my so-called "alcoholism". But I have not had a three day drinking binge in a long,long time.

Thanx Dodgers

Josh S. said...

If I pay a buck for my ticket, there's no way in hell I'm paying for parking. I'll walk if I have to.

NicJ said...

sure the ticket cost 99 cents, but how much is all the therapy you are going to need after watching the game going to cost?

karina said...

@Rbnlawb @Josh why not wait for an improvement? you said it Josh, starting pitching is working out, in fact i'd say better than expected. Maybe if Ethier and Kemp start hitting...that's the thread I'm holding right now.

@Mr C what's deficient, then?

@Neeebs new season, new problems and complaints :)

@Dusty @Mr C @Josh to me, the most amazing place in the world is the stadium watching a game of your favorite team.I've watched games in a crowd of 20 in a 25,000 seat stadium. That or I'm just a sad loser.

Josh S. said...

I've been hooked up with free tickets a couple times this season. That's the only way I see myself going back again.

I don't even want the Kemp bobble. It looks like he's misplaying a fly ball.

Nostradamus said...

@karina

I wish I knew. Honestly, I'm the same way when I walk through the gate, but I feel that I have to make some sort of statement of my displeasure.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I doubt I'll be going to any more games this year.

Paul said...

You know it is bad when I am spending my money on an A's game next weekend.( that and my semi annual bender in San Fran is scheduled.)

It will probably be my last pro game of the season.

Football starts next week. Cinn vs Fresno State in 4 weeks.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Next Sunday: Bengals v Cowboys. Hall of Fame Game. Are you ready for some football?

NicJ said...

i only have one more game that i have tickets for and that will probably be my last of the season.

Paul said...

The only thing I regret is not having the official
night of mourning here at SOSG like last year.

This is the unofficial one.

Watch these bastards make a run only to get knocked out during the last week.

NicJ said...

HOF game makes the pro bowl look interesting.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Except it's the first actual game of the season, instead of the last.

Paul said...

I am back to my 02-03 mode where all I care about is that the Giants lose.

Kyle Baker said...

This must be sad for Theriot and Podsednik. THey came from teams who actually had more of a chance to make the payoffs than we do.

Young Mc is like, "Man, I'm glad to get to a team with winning ways and good ownership. Hello, Pittsburgh!"

Paul said...

I wish the MLB would put some
presssure on a sale ( maybe they have) but I think they are too busy praying the Yanks make the Series again.

Kyle Baker said...

World Champion Los Angeles Lakers!!!! Woooooo!!!!

Paul said...

The end of th season here is starting to resemble an end of an action movie where all the characters go their seperate ways knowing they will be back for a sequel.

karina said...

Do you remember the 2007 Rockies? why wouldn't the Dodgers do the same thing?

They are not mathematically eliminated,so I choose to believe.

Anyhow, I do have the White Sox, even if I have to cope with Pierre and the dreadful Jones.

Nostradamus said...

@paul

More like the ones when they all go riding off to certain death and glory.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

This is the saddest Simpsons Future Episode day ever.

Nostradamus said...

No, don't get me wrong. I'm in it to the very end, but I fear it will take more than faith to right this ship.

Kyle Baker said...

Except for the glory part.

Nostradamus said...

@dusty

For us, not them. May they sing of our exploits for 1000 years.

NicJ said...

For whatever reason this team has been playing poor all season. take away the month of may and our record is 34-43.

Hard to believe in a team that has only given you one good month out of four.

Kyle Baker said...

I hear you Mr. C. Right now I'm walking through a field of grain, running my hands through the tops as I come to terms with the fact that I will soon reach the Elysian Fields.

Josh S. said...

@MLASF: What day does Lisa become president? That day was pretty sad. And by sad, I mean completely unfunny.

Kyle Baker said...

Thanks to LFP for the new avatar.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Temporary Refund Adjustment.

Paul said...

I am in. I am sucker for chivalry. I just don't see how this can end well. What positives can we find?

karina said...

VH1 is on and there's George Harrison singing "Something", now I have the feeling everything's all right, as in the Dodgers make the post-season and/or the Giants don't

p.s I never watch VH1

Nostradamus said...

Well, it does work every time…

Nostradamus said...

@karina

George is The Man.

Kyle Baker said...

Unique is what I seek.

Paul said...

@Dusty

Operation 45:
I figure the Dodgers have to win 45games to get to the fall classic. (38 wins gets them at 92 and 7 in the post season)

I actually didn't figure that, I just like Colt 45.

Paul said...

@Mr. C

Spanky was listening to Wings the other night.

It still follows you...

Kyle Baker said...

@Paul

It's no accident that there's a "45" in my email address, you know.

theunwrinkledear said...

what makes this season so painful is being away from LA since may, and only having three nationally televised games to see: yankees, cards, giants. thanks for the pain and undue misery.
joe torre can suck my bigelow; this team, as bad as it is, shouldn't be this bad

karina said...

@Mr C people can say whatever about Paul, John and Ringo but to me, George is the best. In fact, I refer to him as "my George" but I was embarrased to admit it.

great minds,no?

p.s now it's Aretha with a live performance of "Think".Wait, it's over, now it's "Don't worry Baby" from The Beach Boys.

That's it guys: don't worry baby, everything will turn allright

Kyle Baker said...

@Josh

What was that TV show you were referencing earlier?

Steve Sax said...

Wow, it's so bad in here we've moved to malt liquor.

Where's the ripple and Wiedeman's?

Kyle Baker said...

Like the Beach Boys selection. I think I'm going to fall asleep to some sort of surf music.

That is, until I have to wake up every two hours to administer the eyedrops for the dog.
