Game 125 Thread: August 22 vs. Reds, 1p

Clayton Kershaw (11-7, 3.03) vs. Bronson Arroyo (13-7, 3.87).

COMMENTS: Sure, there's a game today, but what's really on our minds is Vin Scully's announcement that he will be back next year. Every year, every game with Vinny at the helm is a gift. And I (Sax, pitching in here with a late edit) selfishly am stoked to have my kids listen to Vinny next year--further extending four generations of Saxes who have followed games and even fallen asleep listening to Vinny's dulcet tones. Welcome back, Vin!

I was unease since last night.

Another chance to Win for Vin!

Arroyo always seems to be a pain in our ass. Let's embarrass this chump today

And Barajas will be the first punch we've had from the catcher spot in 2-3 years

Greg Zakwin said...

Barajas has a .263 OBP.

Josh S. said...

He also has 12 home runs, but I know that doesn't count because we can count them or something.

karina said...

So he has more home runs than James Loney. It sucks when a first base has no power ;)

rbnlaw said...

Sounds that give me goosebumps:
1. Vin calling a Dodger home run like he did last night. "There's drive to deep left field. . ."

Just got them thinking about his call. All my kids know and love hearing Vin. If there is a god, he should quit wasting his time on trivial wars and such, and make Vincent Scully immortal.

LIKE RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!11!!1!1!

I have friends who are going to today's game in the park.

Let the good times roll, indeed.

And who says that Manny's bat in the lineup makes others around him better? Give that man a prize.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Question of the day is whether its back to 2 Run Charlie today?

Lubby De La Rosa said...

I can't imagine watching a Dodger home game without hearing "it's time for Dodger baseball!" Thankfully I won't have to worry about that (at least not for another year)

karen said...

I too breathed a sigh of welcome relief Karina when I heard Vinny's news. Aren't we all the lucky ones to get another year of our guy!

Josh S. said...

Lucas broke out in an ENORMOUS grin when Vin came on the screen.

I think my heart just exploded.

Crowded around the computer, Vinny!

karina said...

@Josh Vin worshipping is on the DNA

Josh S. said...

Hmmm. Get it out of your system, Clay.

karen said...

C'mon Clay, settle down

Unknown said...

Our ace, Kershaw, strikes out the side!

and also throws a wild pitch, walks two, and gives up two singles.

Kyle Baker said...

In Cards country so I get to see that ass-whppin' they are administering to the Jints.

karina said...

Dusty, how come you're a Dodgers fan and not a Cards fan?

are you fond of the Cards?

Kyle Baker said...

Vin just said Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains. Can't handle how funny it sounds for him to say that.

karina said...

Another Bison HR!

or is he still calf?

karina said...

Ellis single, is it just me or he's hitting better lately?

karina said...

*singled

Kyle Baker said...

@Karina

As some around here have noted I detest that Cards more than any other team other than the Yankees which goes without saying. I have always been an against the grain kind of guy so when it came time to choose a team, I was both getting Vin's call of the game on some radio station (Fred's Brim says it was probably out of east Texas) and digging him (Vin not FB), then soon thereafter got really into Fernando V. Then we took a family trip to LA and I got to go to some games. It was sealed then. Now I'm lucky enough (ok I kinda planned it) to live just a few minutes away from the Yard.

Kyle Baker said...

Kemp is still a becerro, Karina.

Josh S. said...

Padres have their MSB back. If they didn't have the West locked up before, they sure as hell do now.

karina said...

via @efrainruizp via @surfingthemets Morale low here. One Met, watching Barajas say goodbyes, half-jokes "Can I go with him?"

karina said...

Thanks Dusty,I was just curious.

The "I kinda planned it" is hilarious :)

Josh S. said...

@karina: If that Met is David Wright, then yes, he can come with him.

karina said...

@Josh he's a Dodgers killers too, so it'd be GREAT, we'd kill two birds from one shot.

karina said...

Hey Dodgers,in case you forgot, you can score runs without home runs.

Kyle Baker said...

We'll take the HRs, though!

karina said...

@Dusty I just wanted to keep their options open.

Josh S. said...

Ellis will be back on 9/1 though, I assume.

Josh S. said...

Too bad that squeeze failed. I was tempted by the fruit of another run.

karina said...

Barba, show them how it's done

karina said...

Yeah, show them how to strike out ;)

karina said...

Ellis singles after two outs...

MR.F said...

Sigh.

Josh S. said...

Still a very winnable game, unless Dotel has his say.

karina said...

Still a winnable game...Dotel was good

Josh S. said...

I'm having a hard time remembering Brox's last swinging strikeout.

Steve Sax said...

Well, at least the Giants got pounded 9-0 by the Cards, who are now tied with them in the WC race.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'm starting to fall into the John Ireland idea that Favre just delays and delays and delays because he hates training camp and preseason. I don't blame him, but don't be a little ass about it. Grow a pair and get out there.

NicJ said...

I would call you crazy, but as long as you are not agreeing with him on anything to do with baseball you should be fine.

Paul said...

I don't see why he just tells the Vikings that he doesn't want to do much in training camp. It isn't like they would tell him no.

I think he loves the attention.

NicJ said...

I didnt even notice that Minn drafted Gerhart

Good for them.

NicJ said...

i think they dont want to create a problem where other Vets say they also dont want to go to training camp either. Even though im sure that already is happening

Candlestick is a dump.

NicJ said...

yeah i went there as a couple times as a kid for some baseball games. I didnt realize how horrible it was till i went by it last year.

Paul said...

I went there for a Rams-9ers game in 2001 and one our seats broke. They tried to move us down but the seats they wanted to move us had an obstructs view. So we fixed the seat somehow instead.

I hate that stadium.

Yahoo's NFL blog already has a piece about the NBC love for Favre.

Jamie McCourt's attorneys say they located an agreement that shows she has an equal right in the ownership of the Dodgers and that it will dramatically alter a bitter struggle for the team.

McCourt's attorneys filed a motion Thursday asking a judge to allow them to introduce copies of the newly discovered agreement from 2004 between her and estranged husband Frank McCourt.

The filing states the agreements which Jamie McCourt's attorneys contend correctly spell out the ownership issue  were uncovered after forensic analysis of other documents filed in the couple's divorce fight.

The filing states Frank McCourt's Massachusetts attorneys have admitted they provided the wrong document, one conferring sole ownership of the Dodgers to him.

His attorney, Stephen Susman, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
If the court considers the documents valid, the case could be decided in Jamie's favor.

I didn't enjoy this game very much

rbnlaw said...

FB,
My favorite part was turning the game on in the top of the 9th, Broxton pitching, the crowd getting excited, and the score was 3-2.
One pitch later, Brox grooves a "fastball, and the score is suddenly 5-2.
You could hear the excitement sucked out of the stadium. I also thought it was interesting to hear Broxton and the team booed lustily by the crowd.

Fred's Brim said...

I came in late too, for the 8th. I thought it was going to be a lifeless yawner of a 3-2 game, but should have known better. I was positive Broxton was going to walk Votto. Votto getting a hit didn't even enter my thinking for some reason. This team always seems to (the opposite of)exceed my expectations

Fred's Brim said...

what is a better way to say that, the opposite of exceeding expectations?
"Exceed" tends to carry with it a positive connotation. Is there a way to say that negatively? What's a better way to say an "exceeded negative expectations"?
