Hiroki Kuroda (8-9, 3.53) vs. Clayton Richard (8-5, 3.48).

COMMENTS: "Just lay back and let the warmth of fourth place embrace you," wrote NicJ in yesterday's Post-Mortem Thread, and I have to agree with that sentiment. There's a certain peace in accepting the inevitable; the hopes and fears which plague us suddenly become afterthoughts, and we learn to enjoy the process rather than the end result. Let's take this time to enjoy the camaraderie here, the subtleties of the game, the joy of having the privilege of following our favorite team together.
Ahhh, whatever. We suck.

id rather be a cubs fan right now.
Hiro looks like he knows that the offense isnt going to get him those three runs back.
*begins to cry*
Seven hits in our first three frames--2+ baserunners in each inning, and NO RUNS?
Is Glenn Hoffman back coaching third base for us?
@NicJ White Sox fans are too cool for school
@nicj
Don't say anything rash, or we'll have to send Chad Kreuter after you.
@karen breathe, did you open the ice cream?
dodgers only have three comeback wins this season when trailing by three or more runs.
Ick.
Inconceivable!
why? why? why?
What are our chances when down by 5? T_T
I'm running out of ways to express my frustration.
we will make up the five run deficit by the end of the series, i think.
Tommy Lasorda must have pissed off the big Dodger in the sky
Dodgers, I love you and all, but each and every one of you is fired.
Nic, when did you become so optimistic?
you know what a really hate, the fact that the dodgers and angels are playing pretty much the same. Yet all the crap gets put on them and everyone continually kisses the angels asses.
@karina I did open the ice cream. If I'm fat by the end of this season I'll never forgive this team!
Richards could walk someone with the bases loaded against him and we'd still not score.
Perfect. Another grand scoring opportunity for the offense to shit on.
hey look we both have 7 hits, not the same amount of runs though.
Methinks we may need a manager who is somewhat more of a disciplinarian.
Beli2 is still on the team?
@Nic - We're the easy targets. We have the bickering owners, the moron GM, the underwhelming, steroid-enhanced slugger. The Angels have three Mr. Perfects in Arte, Tony, and Torii.
Let Kuroda step the plate!
Why not have Kuroda bunt here? Belli2 isn't doing much and Weaver has been horrific this week.
If Ronnie strikes out, I'm turning it off and turning it back on in, like, September.
maybe we will tank so bad this year that they wont even want mattingly managing.
A run!
Whooptie-fucking-doo
Oh great, now I have to keep watching.
@Mr LASF you forgot Bobby.
They scored a run! yes, you can!
Damn it. Just when I thought I was out...
H O L Y S H I T
W E S C O R E D A R U N
They pulled me back in.
pods cant be long for the leadoff spot.
No I didn't. Bobby's been barely treading water this year.
He really shouldn't be leadoff- especially with Raffy around.
Hey I have a guy who can go 0 for 3. You have him in triple A!!!
We could score 7 here. The pen still has to pitch 5 innings.
Belli2 and Torre just outsmarted our non believing words.
The good news is, pulling Kuroda in the fourth inning gives Torre PLENTY of bullpen options to use to torment us fans.
And that's the good news.
one run doesnt get me believing.
Not necessarily- We got a run at the cost of torching our shaky relief squad. If we get a few more this inning, _maybe_ this was a good move.
FOR THE LOVE OF JACKIE JUST TAKE A DAMN WALK
if matt kemp hits a double here maybe i will start believing, a little.
He's Bison if he clears the bases (not by third out)
How many homeruns did Kemp have at the end of April?
Podsednik now has three hits for the Dodgers across five games.
And he has six strikeouts.
Cockteases.
GOOD FUCKING LORD MORE RUNS
got a run, but no double.
No believing for you!!
Why do I feel that they'll get 4?
kemp had 7 HR by the end of April
@MR C 8:41p: Because 4 < 5?
Thanks Sax.
I thought he reached 10 in a hurry.
we can't even beat the spread
@sax
Ah, yes! That was it!
King James, that was not worthy of your royal presence.
Yeah. I'm going to start watching the Supernatural episodes I have piled up on the DVR. Sometimes you have to just turn it off and hope forthe best.
got two runs, but had to bring out the arson squad bullpen.
Jeff's career could be dead for the 10th time.
those two runs we just got are going to go away real quick.
Do we leave 'do not resuscitate' instructions this time?
Whooboy.
nothing is going our way tonight.
Yes, I think "snake bit" is apt.
I think Josh is right...too many light/no hitting white guys on this team.
We want Adrian Beltre back!
back to a five run lead.
Bright side? it's not going to be a shutout
And just like that, the Padres get two back. 7-2.
What was the giveaway for the Dodgers tonight?
The ballgame?
At least the runs/hits differential aren't out of whack.
@Steve Sax that was gold!
Dear god, are you there? Its me nic. Can you please shut off the power to my house? I cant change the channel for some reason.
Monday was about to lament how difficult the SF-to-LA flight was for the team--waiting an extra FORTY minutes after landing for something--and thankfully Clayton Richard K'd so his story was cut off.
Dudes, I fly all the time, all over the f'ing world. Don't waste my time with stories of forty-minute delays. Have you ever waited in a customs line for two hours? Or gotten off the plane to find airport signs that don't have a lick of English? Or had to sit at the gate until airport security came to take away the boisterous man who wouldn't shut up during the flight?
No?
Then shut the hell up, Monday, about "travel delays".
Had to put the game out of my misery.
Hoo-ray! more OBP~ Let's see some runs now!
hit by pitch = runner gets on base
maybe everyone should follow beard's lead!
The stadium should do "dodgers hit by pitch night" and give away balls and let the first 55,000 fans bean a player of their choice.
three more HBPs and we might get a run. I say might because we could still have runners thrown out on their way around the diamond.
Ethier Ks! Didn't see that whiff pose in the Sunday LA Times Magazine photo spread.
@sax
Shit, I've had a four hour delay from SF to LA, even. What a chump.
Martin GIDP! Yay!
If Rick Monday was so concerned about getting in and out of airports quickly, he'd stop packing so many goddamn hair care products
im surprised we havent seen any fights in the dugout yet.
Nah, you'd need to have some spirit and energy left to have a fight in the dugout. I'd almost like to see someone pissed off enough to call out other players that are sandbagging it.
Chone Figgins thinks we're playing without heart.
Now they are walking Adrian even though he's 0 for 3 with the shift they play? I don't understand this unless they are trying for a DP, and the Padres don't GIDP much...
300
Jeff Kent is ready to get in the face of someone
maybe the dodgers are trying to play really bad so george sherrill will think he is back on the Orioles and start pitching well again.
Weaver = #1 arsonist this week from the relief firemen
10-2 SD. I'm turning this off.
SELL SELL SELL
Think of all the baseball fields we'd be able to build with the lost turnstile revenue the last two months.
Jeff Kent is probably Yelling at those damn kids to get off his lawn right this very moment.
I think this also means two of the McCourt sons might see their salaries cut to only $400K this year.
I guess if yesterday wasn't enough of a soul-crushing funeral, the Dodgers needed to drive the point home that I am a schmuck for watching this shit.
@Mr C: I believe you about Jeff Kent. In fact, he's in his driveway, washing his truck right now.
I think the saddest part is they've found a way to make us hate them all. Remember when we just hated GAARP and Sherrill?
Well, maybe not all. I think the starters (Not you, Lilly!) have earned a reprieve from our wrath.
is it time to start rooting for the Padres, just to see the Giants miss the playoffs?
I only want to know if Sherrill is going to make an appearance. The Winnebago is gassed up and ready to roll.
I've expressed the sentiment before, but I'd much prefer the Pads the Jints or Rockies. The only real downside to SD is how thoroughly they hate us.
I vote padres.
I think the Padres have more than earned my respect this season. They're doing everything right.
I'm between the Padres and the Rangers. I just want to see the west coast represent.
Im rooting for the padres because they remind me of that mariners team who went nuts in the regular season and crapped out in the postseason.
Or like us last year.
Cant rely on all these young arms not to crack under pressure.
Most of the SD hate towards us stems from envy. That should ebb a bit after this season.
I'm getting my Dodger camo uniform ready.
@NicJ: I wouldn't exactly call a sweepage of the Cardinals "crapping out"...
Dodgers World Series Championships broadcast by Charley Steiner, Rick Monday, or Eric Collins:
ZERO
Crapping out of the postseason would be the Cubs getting the best record in the NL then getting swept.
We swept the Cards this season too. That was officially the last time we were good.
@Steve Sax I understand you get a Padres unifor, but why the camo one? are you planning to win an ugly shirt contest? don't ruin your good looks like that!
THAT'S IT BUMS SHOW EM NO MERCY
*uniform
4 to 10, go Blue!
I called the 4 runs.
Gameday just told me Kemp hit the slider away. That's unpossible!
Meh, the cards were probably the only team playing worse than the dodgers when the playoffs hit. After that we were pushed around by the phils again. Maybe not crapped out but were really playing the worst baseball of the season at the wrong time.
332 comments for a blowout? Misery does love company.
Where was this offensive outburst yesterday, that's what I wanna know.
if you dont count the homeruns we are tied.
Actually, I'm in a remarkably affable mood considering I spend a significant portion of the day either watching us get our collective arses handed to us or contemplating the end if the world.
this just means we have two shutouts to look forward to in the next week.
how fitting, we're at "10-4", good buddy
@Sax, would you say the season is "Over and out" then?
@Dusty Baker I never stopped missing Adrian Beltre, no matter what.
Damn, Nic beat me to the punch.
Vin is getting on the umps.
You _know_ it's bad when the umps are sandbagging it too. The Dodgers are sucking the will to live out of everything.
Bill Cosby's official statement on not being dead is hilarious.
When will the Dodgers tweet that they're not dead?
holy cow, padres didn't score in the seventh
we've got them right where we want them
well at least this GBA takes the title of the worst thing that happened on the field tonight away from the dodgers.
@Steve Sax on first place?
So why did me make all those trades again?
when the dodgers dont win, Furley gets angry.
Casey is hiting .246. Not so good.
Ely is still on the big league club at heart. Tonight he went 3IP with 8ER.
Having computer issues...why was Raffy lifted?
"why did we make all those trades again?"
They're losing much more efficiently now.
@DB, i think just because the game was out of reach.
not that it would even matter at this point but it would be nice to get a call every now and then.
What happened to tie going to the runner. At home Yard.
I love this new guy we acquired to play rover. Theriot is his name, I think.
I think they just want to go home, Dusty.
40k attendance, my ass!
Theriot's facial hair annoys me, among other things.
@Nic
Before you decide to remove that iPhone jailbreak, if you do, talk to me first.
Let's just say I've had a long night, technologically speaking.
And of course Dodger rooting speaking.
in positive news, kemp's 4-for-4 brings his averge up to .266
shaggy's era is up to 5.35, however
At least Headley doesn't go 5-for-5.
Yankmes lost
Nats won
All is not entirely lost.
wait, what happened DB?
I'd believe 40 Ks, were it only possible in a 9 inning game.
pods gritted his way to an 0-5 night.
we might need to start worrying about the Dbacks creeping up on us.
@Nic
I wasn't entirely with the platform. Kept generating errors, the themes I tried weren't fully professional, couples of downloaded apps wouldn't work...so I said screw it, other than some small things I liked on the jailbreak, I liked the safe haven of a legit iPhone install. So I tried to uninstall it. When I re-plugged into iTunes, all hell broke lose. I have had to learn all sorts of obscure shit just to re-jailbreak it using another platform in order to get to a factory restore and re-activation, then lean on the backup I had created to re-install everything. Almost through, but it's taken me all night. On the good side, it has kept me from throwing my phone at the TV during this shitty game, reasoning being I've spent so much time trying to fix the phone so why destroy it...
finally someone swings in a favorable count.
5 hit game!!
@Nic
I have 3GS. If this ever happens to you, know that the incredibly delicate task of restoring is different for each type of iPhone, and for Mac or Windows.
Other than that, it was a great idea! /sarcasm
I believe Josh warned me. It's the last time I refuse his sage advice.
kemp takes the easy way out to getting back on my good side. Least he could have done was wander out of the base path.
yeah you really have to be careful on the stuff you DL.
George is gonna come thru right here in the clutch.
MDIL is calling the season...she's almost as optimistic as Karina is, so this is not good. Her recommendation, however, is to go to a bunch of games within the next week to do our best to personally shake the bad juju. I like the way she thinks.
NICE THERIOT! Welcome to LA, my Blue brother!
MDIL?
I just checked and Joes put Sherrill in, and I don't even have the heart to abduct him and drop him off somewhere in the middle of nowhere anymore.
OK, I have the game back on now.
14 hits, 5 of which are Kemp's, and we're getting killed?
Shit.
Just.
Ain't
Fair.
Dusty: I haven't been to a game since the drubbing at the hands of the Angels we witnessed together. I think I need to get back to the Yard to shake things up, too. Come to think of it, that was the beginning of this team's awful run.
IT'S ALL MY FAULT!*
*It's not my fault.
MDIL=Mrs Dusty-in-law (e.g., my sister-in-law).
I'm in favor of Beardo getting some extended time off.
Have DeWitt play thir...fuck.
how much longer can we run casey out there?
Oh wait, the season is over anyways. Keep on truckin' casey!
ah yes, i usually get your relative acronyms.
This Frieri guy is good.
And he knows where all the diners, drive-ins, and dives are.
cant wait to hear what steve lyons has to say tonight.
THAT'S RIGHT YOU BUMS SHOW EM NO MERCY
@Nic
MDIl is recurring. I try not to spring anything new without further explanation. Our household viewing almost every night consists of Mrs Dusty and her sis. Night in and night out. Even on shitty nights like this.
Definitely an abusive relationship with this team.
And yet we continue the cycle. Hot stove...ouch....hot stove....ouch...hot st..
*looks for game tickets for later this week*
It seems appropriate that Frieri is a Friar.
Dead.
So THAT's what they meant by "wait till next year"
1-6 on this current NL West swing.
Theriot looks too much like Sweeney for my taste.
we have become the Tina Turner to the Dodgers Ike.
Josh, call into Dodger talk and tell them you're pissed off on paper.
@dusty
If he were a brother, then he'd have the trifecta.
We are the William Jennings Bryan of the second half of the season.
im starting to think that maybe we cant win with this core group of players.
It took me a minute to get that last comment to me, Mr. C, but then it finally hit me.
too many former cubs on the team.
What, we want the gold standard back?
I finally have something to say. The Dodgers are terrible. Terrible.
I think the CORE group is okay with some additions. It's just that there haven't been additions and one huge subtraction (Manny). Remember how adding Manny made everyone else around him better? We can have that back without breaking up the core, but it also means Frank needs to dip into Jamie's pool maintenance money to pay for an impact player.
It's not like the games are interesting. I have nothing to do but chase amusing tangents! It's not my fault!*
*It's totally my fault.
The dodgers are chafing Nancy Bea's organ.
Nice timing and keen insight, Nancy Bea.
You boiled it down to its essence.
