Five Things I Learned in Yesterday's LA Times Sports Section

1. Occasionally I agree with Bill Plaschke. You gotta go with the players who give you the best chance to win — right, Charlie Manuel?

2. Kirk Gibson is pretty blunt. "I shouldn't say this, but we have a lot of really good ballplayers. I'd rather have a lot of bad ballplayers who win ballgames."

3. Except for parking, prices at Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium match up fairly well (from print edition):

2010 price list
Parking: Dodgers $15, Angels $8
Cheapest seat: Dodgers $4 (game day only), Angels $12
Hot dog: Dodgers $5, Angels $4.50
Peanuts: Dodgers $5.50, Angels $6
Bottled water: Dodgers $5, Angels $4
Cheapest beer: Dodgers $6, Angels $4.50
Small soda: Dodgers $3.75, Angels $3

4. The Angels are not popular outside of Anaheim. "The Angels ranked last in the major leagues in road attendance last year, next to last in the previous year." (Although SeatGeek only places them in the bottom seven this year).

5. Some stadium giveaways weren't so popular this year.

I went to the New Yankee Ballpark In The Bronx yesterday. It was fun to see the perfect, flawless, pope-of-the-ninth Mariano Rivera blow a game. They also had three different players get thrown out at the plate, 2 in one inning. And we left before they won the game in the 10th.

What wasn't fun was the constant "Send Swish" hustling, their campaign to get Nick Swisher voted in to the all star game via the Final Vote. I had to go vote for Paul Konerko a couple of times this morning

Wow. I knew they would have leftover Brox bobbleheads, since the giveaway was the same night as a Laker playofff game. I had no idea they would have enough left to do the 4-pack promotion on three additional nights!

Maybe it's just because the Brox bobble was so slim that they were able to make and store more of them?

Twitter humour:

"Hi, Kyle Baker.

Mexican Food (MexicanFood) is now following your tweets on Twitter."

Mexican food is now following me?

Fred's Brim- Should have been Youkilis.

It seems some of Plaschke's "paragraphs" are actually starting to take the form of real paragraphs.

@DB:

Is Kyle your brother? Evil twin?

I wonder what type of Mexican food is stalking DB.

I hope a margarita is following me!

Just heard that DB is being chased by a flaming bowl of Menudo. A stack of tortilla's not far behind.

Flaming menudo is the name of Neeebs ' cover band!

@Mr. C

he better hope it isn't mr. Chorizo. That dude just got out of prison.

Kyle Baker said...

I think the chilaquiles that Mr C and I knocked down the other morning are exacting their revenge!

I've allied with habanero to defend myself!

@DB:

I won't even ask you which of the OTHER twins is the evil one. Don't want to get you into the dog house.

Kyle Baker said...

Mrs Dusty is definitely the evil twin, she freely admits. MDIL is an angel. Mrs Dusty can get mean as a snake and twice as scary - usually when watching the Gnats.

Kyle Baker said...

GT up!

I'm headed out to hit some tiny white balls into the the mountain range at Eaton Canyon. Back later for the game.
