It wasn't pretty at the end, but the Dodgers took two separate three-run frames (in the second and third innings) and rode the back of Chad Billingsley to get the victory. Russell Martin hit a three-run HR in the second and the Dodgers never relinquished the lead despite it narrowing at the end. James Loney continues his sweet swinging, going 2-for-3 with a double. The Cubbies get two runs in the eighth and ninth, but Jonathan Broxton sees five batters and strikes out two in the ninth to preserve the victory. Dodgers are two back of first place with two to play before the All-Star Break.

Oh, wait, never mind.
I think that at some point, Pat Riley will depose Torre and take over the Dodgers.
I want a sweep and the big mo going into the break. That's all I ask for.
Anyone else headed to the yard tomorrow?
That would be sweet, DB. Of course, if the Rox also sweep, that means a three-way tie at the top of the West. It'll be a whole new season!
So this is our wish list, then:
Dusty: sweep
Josh: three-way
WHO THE FUCK LET BUCK AND MCCARVER ON MY DODGERS LIVE?!
AM 790 way off...cut the music and start Dodger Talk already.
Good lord I'm lame.
Oranje all the way!!
As if Lyons could name one player on either ESP or NED? Fuck him. I hate those guys.
dodgertalk on yet?
Coming on in 3...2...1...
game on
You listened to the game, now talk about...
(...because you are all hopeless geeks!)
alright im gonna call in and say broxton is used too much and that billingsley is not an ACE.
Has anyone called in and asked what we are going to to about starting pitching help yet?
I've got an idea: Nic calls in and says Broxton is used too much. MLASF calls in and says Broxton is not used enough. And Josh calls in and says Broxton's usage is juuuust right.
Hoo boy, we're not even at the all-star break and we are dreaming about three-ways.
I don't know why Levine is rushing the guy off. It wouldn't kill them to let people other than themselves talk.
Do they not have call screeners? [I realize that tonight they are in Baseline Box Club]
Broxton's "clutchness" has just been called into question.
funny avatar MLASF.
I actually like the fact that he went to the HEAT. I want to see the contract details. I still think they are too small to beat the lakers.
So far the team is just Bosh, Wade, LeBron, Chalmers and Miller. They have to sell a lot of guys on the minimum.
Yeah, with so many teams still having a lot of money that is going to be hard to do. The Nets and Knicks are going to be overspending on so-so players.
i guess both bosh and lebron were sign and trades.
Knicks helped themselves out with the S&T with Lee. Nets though are spending like crazy. Travis Outlaw, and almost Tyrus Thomas.
Guy just asked if Gagne was coming back.
Where are the call screeners?
My patience must be far shorter than usual. SOme idiot just said he heard Gagne was coming back. Ok, that's it. I'm out of here.
That's a fine point, MLASF.
why do people that know so little about whats going on in baseball feel the need to call in to dodgertalk.
I never make it through the second caller on dtalk.
What the hell happened? On beer 4 it was 8-3 then it was 9-7 on beer 6.
I probably don't want to know as long as we made party.
There are either far fewer people who have any clue about baseball than I thought there were, or there are as many as I thought there were but few of them call into a baseball postgame show. But that still begs the question: why do people with no clue dominate the cohort of people who call in?
They are spending a lot of time talking about the Lee trade.
My favorite part of the Lee trade is that the Yankees are pissed and that it completely screwed over the angels.
Frankly, I'm just happy he's not in the NL.
MLASF, did you happen to catch any of the Lakers summer league game tonight?
No. How were Ebanks and Caracter?
Nevermind, got it up already.
Caracter had a good game. Ebanks hit a nice three too.
I thought they said they would take more calls? Where the hell are the calls? What am I supposed to mock now?
Caracter was playing like he should have gone is the first round. Nice touch, attacked the glass, and conditioning didnt really look like a problem. He moves REALLY slow with his moves in the low post but that can be taught, unless youre dwight howard.
Ebanks looked absolutely like an Ariza clone from about 3-4 years ago. Knows how to find the ball and finish around the basket. He actually even looks like ariza with the skinny frame and long arms.
Oh thank god that woman is talking about Sherrill. I thought nobody would notice his crappiness.
I like Ebanks because the lakers really need a slasher and i think he can fill that role.
Ebanks was even wearing Ariza's old number.
Both of these guys look like they have a good shot at making the team. Especially if Caracter can become a little more polished. That would be an absolute steal. Ebanks in my mind has made the team. He needs to have a disastrous summer league to lose his spot. Overall I think the rookie presence will work well for the Lakers. They need some kids who really want to play and can provide a serious energy boost off the bench.
It's so sad how Ken Levine tries to make a joke every five seconds.
A guy just asked why managers don't come up with strategies like coaches in other sports. I cannot wrap my head around what the hell he's thinking of.
bosh, wade and lebron all six year deals for around 110 mil.
i wonder if those are all 6 full years or the last couple are player options.
@dusty
The former, I assure you.
I'll spare you "the talk" about begging the question.
Holy crap, Cavs get five picks for LeBron. And something called a traded player exception.
Raptors also get two picks and an exception for Bosh.
Miami will be giving up first round picks for the rest of the decade.
The heat have zero margin for injury with such a top heavy lineup.
Just found out what the TPE is. Lets a team take on more salary in a trade than what they give away. Nice snag for Cavs.
RT @dylanohernandez: Belisario is in a substance abuse program, according to a source. Not many details at this point.
saw that the bulls picked up Korver, good sign for them.
Despite them wasting money on boozer i think they will be pretty good next year.
@MLASF
Gotta be with respect to his DWI, considering.
That guy should have stuck to hockey.
Wait, Gagne's coming back? Sweeeeeet!
I heard Valenzuela will be off the DL post all-star break!
Somehow, all I can pay attention to is Nic J's posts. The others are just blurs. Wonder why?
Sabes Que? WE womn hell yeah
Tommorrow sobre times Ely and then the killer Sweep Fuckhe yeah Gnight or moirrnuing

I feel asleep while listening to DT. Someone asked why managers wear uniforms. That was the last thought I had in my head as I entered sandman. WHY MUST THe GODS TAUNT ME SO???
the thing that I don't like about this way of using Broxton, whether he's an unbreakable clydesdale or not, is that there are diminishing returns with these consecutive outings. I am not sure that Broxton on day 3 is any better than our mediocre other relievers. And then the day 1 and day 2 Broxton aren't the A+ Broxton we are used to seeing. I don't know what the alternative is, but I don't think making Broxton into one of our other relievers is the answer. just my 2c
"I don't know what the alternative is"
I think that's the crux of the problem. It's Sophie's choice between a diminished Broxton who may well lose us games given his heavy use (no pun intended), or having Miller/Sherrill/NotBelly/etc blow it for us.
