John Ely (4-6, 4.07) vs. Tom Gorzelanny (3-5, 3.31).
COMMENTS: Having recovered nicely from dropping two of three to the Mermaids, the Boys in Blue look to ensure the series victory against the Cubbies by going gonzo on Gorzelanny. Elymania takes the national stage (the game is on Fox); can he follow the excellent examples set by both Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley (who was not traded for Cliff Lee yesterday)? One thing's for sure — hold your breath if Joe Torre decides to use Jonathan Broxton, who's thrown 31 pitches over the past two games.

Love it when Torre rolls out a semi-B squad for the marquee Saturday matchup that most of the fans look forward to in the homestand. No cut to these lads, to be sure. And Carroll could well be the best 2B we have at the moment, so no problem there. Blake is on a bad streak so I see sitting him. Ellis has paired well with Ely pitching so I see that.
Soooo...I just disputed my own argument.
going to the game today, not sure where the tickets are though, will update when i find out. are you going early dusty for the "on-field player photo day"?
@Michael
I was going to, but we got a bit of a late start and still haven't eaten. So we're headed over to Spring Street BBQ to chomp and get some beer on, then head over.
BTW: Wash your hair, Timmmeh!

I fear the combo of Ely and sunshine.
I might miss the early portion of the game/ We'll be chowing on unlimited Brazilian BBQ for my nephew's b-day.
Fuck ATT!
Who could predict that 40,000 people in a stadium might want to use their phones?
C'mon John...settle yourself down
After that Soto HR, I love more the beautiful throw Kemp just made.
Epale everyone!
Epale Karina!
Ely needs to slow down.
Sitting with a ton of cubs fans around me, feeling the need to smash my beer into some faces after that home run!
If Elymania hasn't been killed yet, this should do it.
I really miss having Manuel Aristides in the lineup when we face lefties.
Yes, Ken Roshenthal, I get it. Dodgers missed out on Cliff Lee.
So the cubs are playing the part of the Ultimate Warrior?
two on with two out!
ely up, DAMN!
I can't take listening to Buck and McCarver
Tim McCarver is jealous of Ely's looks
Oh, John Ely looks just like Mathew McConaughey.
Who knew?
At least Ely made Tommy throw some pitches.
This goober is shutting us down so far.
Well, at least his pitch count is up.
Ely not helping himself out.
two on for Byrd Ruth.
I wanted byrd to be drilled, but not by the guy who cant throw above 90
Ely needs to grow a pair and settle the hell down
T-Slick warming up.
I still like Ely better than having Juan Pierre on the team.
just need a ground ball.
I wish Garland were still here.
crap, is that the first walked in run we have issued this year?
Walked in a run. Oh geez
I wish Lowe was still on the team.
(Mr LASF me too)
Lowe isn't exactly burning up the NL East. His walk rates are at an career-low. I miss Lowe's production, but I certainly don't miss Lowe.
Travis is very close to wild pitching in a run.
Let's see GAARP do that.
finally we get Byrd out.
XP shoots down that byrd!
This isn't going according to plan.
That was a craptacular attempt by Belly2.
figures the game we lose is the one on big fox.
It's about damn time
well on the bright side with the game pretty much decided i dont have to listen to this crap commentary anymore.
Not one run charged to T-Slick, though in his defense he got some shoddy defense from Belly2.
Well, this game isn't going well. Nice tandem of Xavier Paul to AJ Ellis to get Byrd at the plate, though.
It looks hot out there Dusty!
Sad performance by Ely, don't know what to say...
Lou sounds drunk.
MSB in the house!
id like to see what our record on fox games are. Always seems like we are getting embarrassed on those days.
Like when Lincecum beat us all by himself.
Definitelý sunny, would have left already if I didn't spend 60 on the tickets, haha
Eesh.
I sound drunk, too.
No, wait...
Well...this is distressing.
How did we get stuck with Suck and McAwful? This isn't even the main national game.
@Josh - They're in the area for the All Star Game.
Oh yeah. Duh.
I thought the All-Star game was on some nebulous coast somewhere.
Buck: "Dodgers have to make this a little more interesting..."
Always wanting other people to do your job, huh Buck?
We certainly aren't putting up much of a fight.
YAY for the Dodgers!
Again, whenever I see DeWitt, he's flailing at the plate.
Furcal, on the other hand, is still potent.
"He was CLEARLY out."
Yeah, he was. Teams get breaks sometimes. TRY not judging for once, you two knuckleheads.
And yet, they don't say "That was CLEARLY a ball." Douches.
Yay Ethier!!!
Yay Byrd!
Hooray for poor fielding!
Dre breaks the seal!
Come on Kempy
Damn.
At least we are on the board!
Furcal is something else the past couple of weeks
Ay, Jay!
Nertz.
Aw.
Hey, Monasterios is pitching!
Aw fuck it.
Are we better off switching Ely's and Monny's roles until a trade can be made?
Also, the placement of the beach ball in the Aramis home run replay was kinda funny. (I'm taking what I can from this game.)
Remember when Fukudome was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and everybody loved him, and he was an All Star? I don't.
This is an intense game...
...of Bejeweled that I'm playing on my iPhone.
IM BEGINNING TO DOUBT WHETHER MONASTERIOS IS THE FUTURE OF THIS ORGANIZATION!
HE STILL STRUCK OUT THE SIDE DAMMIT
0-for-3s from both Kemp and Loney
@Sax from a long ways back
It is hot if you're sitting down close. I'm I'm shade and there's a slight breeze and it's gorgeous as long as you don't look up at the scoreboard.

Tim McCarver is in early 2009, explaining Russell's J.
They're still sticking with the "This One Counts" slogan? Because the rest of the All Star games meant nothing?
Fuuuuuuuck.
Just what I want...a Fox Sports cap
It's hard to believe that Joe Buck Live could have been canceled. He's so damn funny.
Monasterios deserves a chance as starter, he's not spectacular, he might not be the future of the organization, but he can make a decent job.
Believe me, I've seen this guy as a starter for years.
There, I said it.
Are Cub bloggers bitching about Marmol being used here?
Why GAARP??????
I had to go out to get some wine for a party I have tonight. I had bought vodka but I was told we're drinking wine tonight. Didn't find what I always buy and got confused on a row of stuff I don't know.
Missed Dusty, Paul and Mr C on that moment.
I did what a graphic designer does:get the most good looking bottle.
How many games have ended with GA fail?
K for GA.
King James, a RBI, please, for luck
Joe Buck was so happy to say "Game Over." The bastard.
Dignity run, but not enough to make this game worth watching.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Well, we can't be in first place at the break.
We can be in third!
@Steve Sax don't worry, it's how you end the season.
End the season with a new owner and gm!
