We've replaced our readers' Game Thread with a poem. Let's see if they notice

The daisy follows soft the sun,
And when his golden walk is done,
      Sits shyly at his feet.
He, waking, finds the flower near.
    “Wherefore, marauder, art thou here?”
      “Because, sir, love is sweet!”

We are the flower, Thou the sun!
Forgive us, if as days decline,
      We nearer steal to Thee,—
    Enamoured of the parting west,
The peace, the flight, the amethyst,
      Night’s possibility!

Orel knows his Dickinson!

However, tonight i'm on the mood for Lovecraft or Poe, how about everybody else?

Answer sent.

I'm always up for Poe.
The bells, bells, bells, bells, etc.

Orel said...

Just waiting for that national anthem!

" From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells"

I like this part of the poem:

How it swells!
How it dwells
On the Future ! how it tells
Of the rapture that impels
To the swinging and the ringing
Of the bells, bells, bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells
To the rhyming and the chiming of the bells!

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotton lore...

Even a man who is pure in heart,
and says his prayers by night,
may become a wolf
when the wolfbane blooms
and the autumn moon is bright

Dusty Baker said...

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom

But enough about Philly.

Dusty Baker said...

Oh, no, they're waving white towels as the game begins - I can't see a THING!

The breeze, the breath of God, is still
and the mist upon the hill
shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken,
is a symbol and a token
how it hangs upon the trees,
a mystery of mysteries!

Jeter out quickly. Mainstream sports media has premature Jetergasm.

The Phiwwie Phans think they won the Series by shutting the Yankees down in order.

There once was a man from Nantucket

On related Dodgers info, Dwayne Pollok (Albuquerque), just pitched an outstanding game on the first game of a double-header for Aguilas del Zulia, defeating Caribes and Eliezer Alfonzo (Padres) and Jonathan Herrera (brief time with the Rockies this season).

I'll be watching DeWitt closely with Tigres del Licey, because he'll have lots of pressure. The team is the caribbean equivalent of the Yankees, so playing there is not a joke.

Arthur Gordon Pym, Orel?

Liked that novel a lot!

Orel said...

Oh, Karina. So innocent.

Orel said...

Thanks for the Aguilas update!

karina said...

why am i innocent?

i thought you might like some sort of Dodgers news!

Dusty Baker said...

Karina-
Thx for that update. Please keep us posted on Joyce DeWitt.

Orel said...

Jayson Werth with a HR.

Orel said...

Bastard.

karina said...

@Orel this is hilarious "This literary trope can be attributed to the popularity of the limerick genre and the way the name of the island of Nantucket lends itself easily to humorous rhymes and puns, particularly obscene ones. In the countless vulgar versions, the mythopoeic protagonist is typically portrayed as a well-endowed, hypersexualized persona."

It's very proper that i lose some innocence on Halloween night.

I'm tired of Jayson Werth too.

Orel said...

Happy Pete with a double.

Orel said...

Happy to be of service, Karina!

Orel said...

Karina, do you do Halloween in Venezuela?

Orel said...

Rancho Cheesesteakiendo

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Rancho Rolliendo

karina said...

Yes, we do. It's an imported custom, but any excuse to party is a very good excuse!

However, i've always believed on the Great Pumpkin.

Orel said...

There's a little bit of Linus in all of us.

Dusty Baker said...

"any excuse to party is a very good excuse!"

Amen!

Petttittttte sucking is also a good excuse.

Ruiz goes on White Slappy's arm

Orel said...

Joe Buck with the great eye — A-Rod's "double" hit the outfield camera. Is it a home run?

Dusty Baker said...

Gotta be a HR, much as I will hate it.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

They say homer

Orel said...

HR! Hamels becomes Hamels.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

This was supposed to be a fun Halloween. Now USC is sucking it up in Eugene, and I'm going to have to hear it from the Bruin faithful on Monday.

Orel said...

SWISHER IS BACK

Orel said...

Speaking of which, when do we see Brad Lidge?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

The last thing I need right now is a scoreless inning from Lidge.

Orel said...

White Slappy breaks the tie! So nice to see the Phillies losing.

karina said...

Damon is doing his best first half Beast Mode impersonation!

Yankees 5-B word 0

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

So is White Slappy sticking to Damon?

karina said...

I mean, B word team 3.

I want them to be shutout.

Orel said...

Bye bye, Camels. Could be on the hook for 7 ER.

karina said...

Bye Hamels, welcome Phillies bullpen!

karina said...

@Orel "great minds think alike" or it is just we hang out a lot on game threads?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Where's the D-Line? I need to cry on his shoulder.

Orel said...

Definitely great minds, Karina. Don't be fooled into thinking any different.

Dusty Baker said...

41-20 w 10 mins left? A true and savage beatdown being administered.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

This is the worst Halloween ever.

karina said...

@Mr LASF why? are sports ruining your night?

Today, i started listening to the Aguilas first game of a doubleheader around 5:15 pm, which i continued to do 'till now, when the after show of the second game is finished.

I plan to watch the World Series game 'till the end. Is this normal behavior?

karina said...

Werth is annoying.

Dusty Baker said...

Mother of freakin god, what has gotten into Werth? That was a MONSTER.

Dusty Baker said...

Completely normal, Karina. Well within normal range.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

What's Jayson Werth been sticking in his ass?

karina said...

I'm pretty sure Beast Mode costume is Johnny Damon.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Hip hip...

Jorge!

Orel said...

Not only normal, Karina, but preferable.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

A thrilla!

Glad to see the Dodgers aren't the only ones Carlos Ruiz tortures.

Gee. Sorry I had to drop out before the fun started. Didn't even get to use the word "tintinnabulation."
