Manny's Back

(Get it? "Manny's back"?)

Manny Ramirez will be back with the Dodgers in 2009, having exercised his option to return in 2010 for the fee of $20M, according to True Blue LA / Jon Heyman's twitter feed.  Man, I feel uncomfortable citing twitter feeds; however TBLA is pretty sound and I trust Eric Stephen.  Let's hope it's the late-2008 era Manny, and not the late-2009 era Manny; however, given it's a contract year, he's a proud guy and he's coming off an interrupted season, I think he'll be hungry to contribute.

So long as there aren't any major distractions around for the team, that is.  Nah, we don't have any of those.

On a plane now but was wondering if there was any more substantial Manny confirmation yet?

If not, will seek it in seedy dives after I arrive, just to leave no stone unturned.

I guess I'm OK with this, even though I was pretty frustrated with the guy by the time the season ended.

I just want the marketing department to take the focus off him next season. No Mannywood, no multiple bobblehead nights, no BEE AYE PEE TICKESS. Treat him like just another player.

(That is, assuming there's any money left after the divorce fallout for there to BE a marketing department.)

Always so clever.

We know there won't be a protocol dept.

And, does this really surprise anybody?

BTW, these brushes and other assorted knickknacks that I've been lugging around all day are awfully heavy. Door to Door sales are not what it use to be.

I want to believe 2010 Manny will be so awesome, everyone will forget about other people's relationship issues.

Call me an optimist.

It wouldn't be the first time, Karina!

karina's an optometrist? I had no idea!

Sax, thanks for the consoling pat.

I'll have to ask karina about my blurry vision of the future.

Optometrist? Fred's Brim hahahahahaha, i have to go to one of those once a year since i'm 13. Sorry!

Rbnlaw, we'll have to wait for Nostry because as you can see, my eyesight is blurry in the distance :)

Manny > Pierre

Every day of the week.

And twice on Sundays.

Case closed.

Relying on stats to project future performance is like looking at a boat's wake to determine which direction it's heading.

Looking at Juan Pierre and seeing a productive MLB player is like looking at a prostitute and seeing the future mother of your children.

If Manny is Manny of '08, I agree with you wholeheartedly. If Manny is Manny of '09, I disagree with you passionately. I won't take their stats from '09 as an indication of how they'll do in '10. I'd rather see the third option.

Greg Zakwin said...

What's the 3rd option, play Pierre and hope to God he doesn't play as shitty as he always has and always will?
