Vicente Padilla (11-6, 4.55) vs. Jason Marquis (15-12, 3.95).
Finally, a meaningless game! The NL WEST CHAMPION Dodgers will rest for Wednesday and see what Padilla can offer against the Cardinals in the playoffs. The NL Wild Card Rockies will also rest for Wednesday, perhaps conserving Marquis' arm for the Phillies. Rest up, Dodger fans: It's going to be an exciting month!
UPDATE: Today's storylines:
- Will Kemp raise his average over .300? He's currently at .298 and needs to go 3 for 4 to reach .300. Statistically, 2 for 2 gets it done too.
- How many at-bats will Hudson get? Each AB earns him $10K.
- Will Brad Ausmus pull a Lou Piniella?
(Thanks to the True Blue LA comments section for the picture!)

Per TBLA (you da man!), Ausmus will manage today.

Ausmus - Manager
Surprised so many regulars are actually starting.
Eye Chart getting the start!!
Nice.
Hey DB, missed you last night, but hope you had a fine time with Mrs. DB.
DeWitt still can't get a start? Maybe a 3rd inning replacement for the dawg?
I predict a Hu dinger. As opposed to a Whodunnit.
I'm actually really excited for game #162. Meaningless, but a victory lap nonetheless. It will give me a legitimate excuse for keeping talking about the game last night, the division crown, the playoffs, etc.
Oct. 4 Staff:
Ausmus-Manager
Loretta-Bench Coach
Mike Borzello-Pitching Coach
Weaver-Bullpen Coach
Thome & Castro-Hitting Coach
Official word from Dodgers is that Randy Wolf will be pitching Game 1 of the NLDS, followed by Clayton Kershaw in Game 2. Billingsley role uncertain.
[Per DodgersNation]
Castro? Hitting coach?
Is everyone really tired, hungry, poor, and hungover?
I actually am at least several of these but nonetheless pumped for today's victory lap.
RB, you alive? Brother Neeebs? Mr. C, no hard feelings re Chelsea match, right? ;-)
Hitting coach was probably the hardest decision to make, given recent performance.
Fox replaying last night's game before today's. I got a bit weepy all over again.
Tito, get me a tissue.
Main post updated with the storylines of today's game.
Sorry: Jermaine, stop teasing!
Jason Jomby playing first.
Thx, Orel. I knew I could count on you!
Padilla's just as good as Kershaw.
Some pics and video from my trip to Chavez Ravine last night:

Vicente Kershaw strikes out the side!
Padilla! Are you Kershaw in disguise?
Padilla in his best Kershaw impersonation :)
Pierre triples past Jomby!
Juanny gets us going!
Great pix, DB! What did Darth Vader say on Diamond Vision?
BEAST MODE triple!
Don't worry, Orlando. You're still $10,000 richer.
Dammit, O-Dog.
Makeup call?
@ Orel-
Darth did the pre-game warning to fans about their behavior (don't throw things on field, if a fan is hindering your enjoyment, etc.). All the warnings were SW-themed and hilarious.
The cheapest of all HBP's
Is a HBP an AB?
Thanks DB. Maybe they'll put those videos on Dodgers.com.
plate appearance, not an AB
Tigers won
MIN 9, KC 4, bot 6
Vin has officially adopted the term "walk-off." I no longer feel dirty using it.
I can't believe there aren't any MY TOWN THIS IS T-shirts on eBay yet.
RANCHO FRANK CALIENDO
Mary Hart in da house!
Beard Power!
We score!
2-RBI single by Blake! 2-0 Dodgers! It's almost as if...a switch has been flipped!
@ Orel
I hope they do put the videos up b/c someone clearly spent a lot of time on them. I remember one of the warnings about not cursing because children may be around. Vader said that parents needed to take care of their kids because "I am not your father."
Rancho Ardiendo!
Eye-Chart delivers!
Rancho we're already beating fuck out of these Rockies!
I am interested to see Snoop Douggy Doug play first today - i read several weeks ago that he still has trouble throwing
Remember when Hu was a great up-and-coming prospect? That was nice.
Let's light up Marquis Mark!
That's sweet, DB!
Vinny reminiscing about his managing the team in 1965 for Walter Alston.
God damn you just can't get this anywhere else, any other way.
Ellis getting in on the action!
A.J. Ellis - First big-league hit, and first RBI
wow his first hit!
@ Orel:
I take it you meant "Rancho we're already beating fuck out of these Rockies!" was sweet.
This is a GREAT story from Vin.
That was an awesome story by vin.
Actually, I meant the Darth Vader thing. But any Rancho-wordplay is also sweet.
That's a great story
Agreed Orel - I love how Vin can always manage to get his stories in in time, like there's always another foul ball so he can finish it
ha and he even mentioned he got it in in time!
I knew, Orel. It was just a funny juxtaposition. I'm easily amused!
Look at that. The team all loose after the celebration puts up 4 runs in the first.
This is a good time to start a trend of profuse first inning scoring.
Clayton padilla.
Holy smokes, VPad! Wow!
Vin called it a "big bloated marshmallow."
^ The ball, not Padilla
Of course it was Hawpe.
Why didn't he just throw at Hawpe right away?
Brad Hawpe, I am so tired of you
Hawpe is still an asshole.
Now VPad is screwed up.
Looking at St. Louis lineup...they're playing most of their regular starters. I don't wish injury on them, but I'd love to see them get really really tired, worn out, disgusted with themselves, and doubtful of their ability to win.
Beard takes care of biz!
nice work Casey! i hope that didnt hurt your hammy
B with the D!
I think I hurt my hammy with all that Scotch last night.
My feed is messing up. Pls. pls. pls. fix this, Fox. How hard is it?
Repko in center
No .300 for Kemp
Classy of Torre, I mean Ausmus to bring Kemp out of the game like that. Here's to ya, Matty! Thanks for a great season, now on to the playoffs.
Fowler is very annoying...
Dougie having a nice game.
Vinny is dealing. Now he's on about how the stadium was made. Walking history book.
Aflac: Duke Snider has the most postseason HR as a Dodger with 11. Who is 2nd?
Just finished transcribing the Alston story.
Orel, that is bad ass. I was hoping someone would do that transcribing. (Sorry to be so lazy myself).
How long will Ausmus (Torre) leave Padilla in?
Broadcast just showed a mic'd Ausmus telling Kemp that he was going to let him take his position then take him out since he needed to go 2-2 to hit .300. Excellent work from the broadcast crew. We knew that was the case, but it was cool to see/hear.
Aflac: Steve Garvey with 10!
The Beast is on fire!
Twins win! One-game tiebreaker on Tuesday!
Eye Chart with the stab!
Come on, E, give us one more today!
Come on, Hu: Let the dawgs out.
Game time 6:37PM Pacific on Wednesday.
In a brilliant move, I just answered "yes" to my good friend and co-worker's question about whether I would go with him to the game on Wednesday using the extra ticket he had.
HELLO POSTSEASON!
On the other hand, the just-announced start time means that I can't ask for the day off since it starts in the evening. Maybe I'll take the afternoon off and just hang out in Short Stop. No one will be in there, right?
Young Mc dealing. Good outing for him. Ethier still in - wondering how he'll bow out today. I want one more Ethier HR. Now.
Well played, DB. I love it when a plan comes together.
The Coors Light Freeze Cam pictures of the Dodgers' celebration, featuring them pouring Budweiser on each other.
I love it: tiebreaker on Tuesday, Dodgers postseason game on Wednesday and Thursday and Aguilas OPENING GAME on Friday night.
"Where's Loretta? Where'd my bench coach go?" -Ausmus
This Ausmus mic'd bit is jsut hilarious.
Everything is coming up Karina, isn't it, Karina?
Were gonna run out of K's soon.
It is, Dusty Baker! on top of things my dear cousin and her husband, who is more like a sister and best friend comes to visit on Friday night, so after the game, i'll go to greet her.
How will i work her visit, Dodgers playoff games, Aguilas game and a baby shower on the weekend, i don't know.
We can borrow a K from Karina, and from my real first name, but after that we're dry!
@ Karina-
Recommend skipping baby shower for scheduling purposes.
Isn't it weird not to worry about ota on the ound?
*Mota on the mound, what's up with my Ks and Ms?
Are we out of Ks AND Ms???
I can't skip the baby shower, i'm one of the hostesses.
I just watched the last single of the season for Ken Griffey Jr, on tv they say it could be his last :(
Eye Chart lobbying hard for a roster spot.
@ Karina-
Yeah I was wondering why Junior's @bats today haven't been getting more attention given his situation. I missed flipping around to try to catch it but glad you did. Such a class player. We wouldn't have Jackie Robin #42 day in baseball without him, among other things, as he made the original suggestion to MLB.
Eye Chart should hire me to do some heavy lobbying on his behalf.
@Dusty Baker i'm watching that game, because it was Felix Hernandez last outing of the season and that's why they're broadcasting it. Anyway, Junior is one of my favorite players ever, as you said, he's a class act. I really think he could play one more season.
Don't be surprised if Mariners re-sign him for one more year. He clearly can still play in a DH and pinch hitting role, and he's still a huge butts-in-the-seat draw for the team.
Loretta putting himself in?
Come on, Belly#1. Let's put this to bed already.
Chacin is also from Maracaibo
Will this be Thome's last AB for us? Probably not, but a possibility.
brad tells brad to grab a helmet
Ausmus pinch running. Love this game.
Will Ausmus get signals from himself?
brad should send brad to the showers for dogging it.
i think that puts us on the top of the attendance list of all ballparks.
Yup, vin agrees.
stupid fowler
I'm not convinced Trancoso should make the roster. At all.
he is better on the road
Still at the game, and I just secured my tickets for Thursday's game. Good stuff. I didn't think I'd be making it to a playoff game this year.
is troncoso going to spoil this meaningless win?
the ump says "i want to go home, start swinging"
how do you not get an out on that
Awesome, Erin. I'll be there Wed. and hold the fort down and you do the same Thurs.
Whew!
are the dodgers doing a playoff rally this year?
Nic-
Someone on Dodger Talk asked that last night. Likely not. Mainly because we are already in town so there's no "triumphant return as victors" sort of element. I cna kind of see that but also think it would be neat. But I'm very biased about excuses to skip work and watch and/or celebrate Dodgerdom.
haha, well said DB
Last regular-season PGT is up!
Man, Orel, you're getting me all verklempt with that "last" talk.
