Randy Wolf (1-1, 4.31) vs. Chris Young (2-1, 5.74).
COMMENTS: Release the rabbits! In Young's last start, the Rockies stole eight bases against the Padre lamppost. The Dodgers, as Vin likes to say, have a few rabbits of their own, especially if Juan Pierre gets in the game. Eight stolen bases might be a bit much to expect, but how about one for each bunny Gromit is holding?
The Dodgers also have a Wolf, one pitching better than his numbers indicate. Vin tells us the Dodgers are batting .370 and averaging more than eight runs a game at Dodger Stadium (although those figures are now a tad lower after last night's 1-0 nail-biter), so Wolf would certainly appreciate some early run support. I know I would, because I ran out of Pepto during the ninth inning last night.
A win tonight would give the Dodgers the series win in this four-game set against the Padres, who suddenly find themselves under .500 (at 11-12) after a hot start which at one point put them at 9-3. The also-sub-.500 Diamondbacks and Nationals follow the Padres into town next week, so now's the time for the Dodgers to fatten up like, well, a wolf devouring rabbits. (Full circle. Ta-da!)

Interesting Derby, did not even consider Mine That Bird, but then again I know nothing of horse racing. Not joining tonight's GT unless the Hilton in Irvine has free Wi-Fi.
A prayer for the bullpen:
please Lord, let Wolf keep the ball in the yard and make it through at least the 7th.
We ask this in Jesus' name.. Amen.
Let's pray the offense comes to life.
Has the line-up been announced?
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Ramirez, LF
Ethier, RF
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
Kemp, CF
Blake, 3B
Wolf, P
Yes I should have prayed for that as well considering last night's production:
Please Lord, we also implore you for multiple, extra base hits & many bases stolen from the heathen Padres. We also ask that the bats of Loney and Martin be shown the light.
Amen
Is Chappy short for chaplain?
nope, I wish I were that clever...
just a lot of catholic school growing up, so I let that animal outta the cage every now and then.
The Bulls are falling apart to end the first half. Celtics by 12.
who is brent leach?
From DT:
"Leach, a 26-year-old lefty, gives you a lot of strikeouts -- and a lot of walks. He has allowed one earned run in 13 innings this season, despite giving up 12 hits and walking eight. He has 17 strikeouts.
"A year ago, splitting time between Inland Empire (A) and Jacksonville (AA), Leach had a 2.60 ERA with 34 walks and 49 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings. He's a 2005 sixth-round pick out of Mississippi's Delta State University."
thats all our pitching staff needs, another young talented arm who walks a lot of people!
All we have in the reserves are are young rough talent, or over the hill journeymen who are on the last breaths of a career.
at least tanyon sturtze is finally gone.
Boston 60 - Chicago 51
7:30 in 3rd
ohman is hilarious.
"willywood is up by the elevators" -Ohman.
HAHAHA
rondo getting a taste of his own medicine, finally!
I'd still rather have Beimel.
but ohman actually gets lefties out Penos
can wolf start in the second inning
Koufax - Rondo is taking a beating
Nice scarf.
meh, beimel started to taper off last year.
and he is on the DL right now anyways, thats the last thing we need.
It doesn't look like they're going into OT in Boston tonight.
Beimel isn't the answer to the Dodger's woes, no reliever is.
They lack consistent starters; I miss Lowe much more than Beimel.
if the celtics go on to win this do you think they will make it out of the second round?
i dont really.
Agreed Nic. Especially without Garnett.
i liked lowe, but he clearly didnt want to play for LA anymore.
Laker game and Dodger game will be on at the same time Monday
no doubt Nic, and they didn't want to pay him either. so probably for the best.
I'm just tired of holding my breath for the 1st three innings...
plus it would of cost us 4 seasons to get him and i dont think he can last that long.
true, aside from the first inning wolf has been pretty solid.
Plus Hero is on the DL waiting to get better.
The Dodgers biggest problem in the playoffs was the lack of depth in the startin rotation. Lowe was awsome, Kuroda was a pleasant surprise, Billingsley was disappointing.
great
haha see.
right on cue Nic
starters I tell you, starters...
the playoffs are a long while away. dont think that this is the starting rotation we will have for the playoffs.
The Gonzalez brothers hate us. 1-0 Padres.
i was just going to ask if the padres have to keep edgar on the team so that adrian wil stay on the team.
serves me right.
wolf needs a reverse closer...
good point, but it still pisses me off
haha an opener, like in the minor leagues when a major leaguer is rehabing, start the game and gets pulled after an inning.
Crap, already down by 1.
bulls only down five, OT isnt out yet.
didnt young shut the dodgers down last time?
Bulls within 4.
hopefully Wolf will settle down on cue as well.
I like the opener idea, McDonald could do that, he nails the 1st and then falls apart, they could even slap hands tag-team style at the switch.
House gets a T for taunting the Bulls' bench after hitting a three-pointer. I hope the Celtics lose by one.
hilarious, what would the tag team be called?
We need baserunners!
We swing sooooooo early in counts sometimes.
Way too easy for Chris Young.
so far young has our number, again.
OK, just got here. What'd I miss?
Oh crap.
Thank God for the Jack in the Box commercial.
If it was wolf and mcdonald we could call them "el McRandy".
Is the Pacquiao vs. Hatton fight gonna start soon?
6 pitches by Young? Seriously.
what about Ol' McDonalds Wolf Farm.
i got nothing.
Wolf 1st inning era: 12.00
2nd inning on: 2.73
I dunno, McWolfenhomer?
Wolf
ERA, 1st inning: 12.00
After that: 2.70
We should put ohman in for the first inning of wolf's starts.
Aren't there always like a million undercards?
Is Mark Hendrickson doing anything?
Mark Hendrickson is working at Costco.
Sax do you have McDonald's numbers?
1st inning vs. 2nd or 3rd? his would probably be the reverse of that...
I heard that! they probably only have Hendrickson there to stock the tall shelves...
see, good wolf.
Martin's catch in foul territory—that was close.
If Wolf was going to get touched in the first, giving up a solo HR is not the worst way to go.
Whew. Decent 2nd.
i always cringe a little when the catcher has to catch the popup.
OK, let's see the young ones do something.
I hope the Dodger bats wake up.
haha the bulls just got a point added on from the first quarter, the drama goes on.
do you think loney voted for himself on the HR pole question?
they have no patience batting tonight thus far...
Bulls down by 3!
dodgers.com/roadtrip
Interesting, but expensive.
Bing bing bing! Vin mentions Chris Young's alma mater, second inning.
alright russ, nice stroke.
Martin beginning to show some signs.
114 steals allowed. Lamppost is right.
casey at bat
Hey, Dodgers have two on!
Young can't handle having runners on base. That is obviously.
Double steal?
can't let him get out of this
damn
Aargh, more warning track power.
WTP.
if they did a double steal they would have just put casey on and gone after wolf.
i was thinking that too though
You're fast Orel.
Bulls are running out of time.
Meant to say: True, but Wolf doesn' totally suck at bat.
Celtics by 5 with 2:45 to go
wow, third strike fastball? wheres the curve?
It must be weird pitching to a guy 6'10 then pitching to a guy 5'6
Eckstein might be the most talented midget of all time.
eckstein looks like he should still be getting snacks after the game is over.
Bulls down 5 with 1:35 left.
Vin was thinking the same thing I was
8 in a row.
Wolf is a good hitter, if he can get on Young maybe will get rattled and give up a few.
Is it me, or does Brian Scalabrine look like Will Ferrell?
i think the celtics just keep scalabrine on the team because he can double as a mascot.
Wolf helps his own cause!
damn randy's trying to get that run back.
Howlin' Wolf!
if you have a bat and you always choke up on it, why don't you just play with a shorter bat?
sweet double by Wolf!
Lets get this offense rolling
attaboy, Randy!
Even baby!
yeah, thats good, gets randy a rest after those two sprints.
that the way! Now we need to see the "rabbits"
STEAL DAMMIT!
This could be a rally.
i was thinking the same thing FB. maybe you get more control with a counter weight on the other end?
ok Randy - rest up on that bench. you've done a lot of running!
Bulls are not going to pull this out.
meh, lets see with our luck we will run ourselves out of a rally.
do they walk Manny?
game 7 was a bit of a let down.
Runner at second, one out.
Manny walks.
People love their Mannywood T-shirts!
Bulls are done
sweet, I hope he makes em pay!
How could Game 7 not be a letdown?
5 OT's and bill russell comes out of retirement.
maybe i dream to big.
Baserunners sure seem to rattle Young.
$50 a seat, they better love those shirts. Least they could do is throw in a Dodger Dog.
Exactly, Nic. Nice.
that was the pitch!
that check swing was close. Go Andre!
i never like sitting there. its field level but you cant really see anything.
Bulls/Celtics reminds me of the mid 80's. Bulls get close; Celtics advance.
way to go Orel! you shouldn't coach the enemy!
Work 'em 'Dre.
thanks for nothing andre.
Hey, I'm just the messenger.
enough with the 0-2 counts already!
Manny could take his lead half way to 2nd and they wouldn't hold him on.
you're forgiven...
SF lost, ARI won.
Pffft.
Talk about room service.
All over in Boston.
you think frank would pay for some nicer chairs in the bullpens. does he rent those things out to parties on road trips.
poor casey, here come the subpar defense critics.
do the gonzales brothers ever do anything seperate?
Edgar is killing us? My world is upside down.
Nice to see Martin with the gun!
russ has had some good throws to second lately
Chintzy bullpen chairs are probably some baseball superstition.
yeah, i think he is really making the extra effort on defense since he is in a bit of a hitting slump.
Yep Nic, Blake is better than people give him credit for.
I think really they're just jealous of his beard growing ability. didn't he shave like four days ago?
Aflac trivia question:
Bud Black is 1 of 2 men in the last 50 years with 100 wins as a pitcher & manager. Who is the other?
What would be worse; managing the Madres or the little Giants?
Ask Bruce Bocce.
possibly, orel
Casey shaved before the game.
a strikeout on an almost wild pitch, dont see that everyday,
I would hope Russell gave that defensive effort regardless of his hitting.
Another nice catch, right on cue.
Leo Durocher?
then he's got homer simpson powers cause his beard is looking robust
he's like Samson, needs to keep that going all the time or he's powerless.
2-2 for Russell
Martin's back in the saddle again.
i wonder if farmer john gets jealous when vin talks about del taco like that.
nice nic
did anyone catch matt kemp on sports science today talking about separating his shoulder from running into the wall last year?
so he can check a runner at 1st, good to know.
Young remembered he had a runner on.
Go figure.
Have to admit, Young's throwing strikes. Hard to take pitches.
nic did u go to the game last night, was it as boring in person as it was on tv?
no actually, it was my first live pitchers duel and i was glued.
the bottom of the lineup was completely electric.
bottom of the ninth
Wolf bunting to get on?
i watched it on replay wish i fast forwarded until the 9nth
The W at the end though Sandy made it worth it
no argument there chap
nice play by Blake
trivia answer: Larry Dierker
come on people the wave is so 1984
how pissed do u think peavy was last night? I love it.
I keep waiting for Peavey to bite the ball after talking to it...
orel, i have never started a wave, but when it comes around i participate. do u boycott it while it passes u?
that was a gift strike
Now the "Padres suck" chant.
What's next? Beachballs?
thunder sticks rbnlaw, thunder sticks
dammit Randy - why are you scared to pitch to these bums?
Gawd I hate those things.
Went to ATT last year to see Giants/Dodgers after we got Manny. The beer cups have "Beat LA" on them. I kept mine. They're cute.
Geez. Give the freak a strike.
phew
that's great; better to be hated than admired I always say
"orel, i have never started a wave, but when it comes around i participate. do u boycott it while it passes u?"
Always boycott. FIGHT THE POWER
Get em on, get em over and get em in!
Five Suggestions for the Dodgers' New Head of Security (SoSG)
haha
pads 2 for 20 with RISP, wow
